Thread: Def. stacking/Multiple Melee professions?

I've heard and seen numerous posts and patch notes about how different mods stack. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a couple questions.


To my knowledge Dodge, Counterattack, and Block all work only when used with coressponding weapon...is this still true?


I know they capped Melee and Ranged Defenses, but what I don't know is what did they cap it at....and do defenses from different professions stack up to the cap?


Lastly, I was wondering if status def. will stack from different professions, IE: def. vs posture down. Meaning if I get a def. vs dizzy in fencer and also in swords, will they stack or only work seperately when the cooresponding weapon is equiped?


So basically what I'm trying to get at...is it still a viable and good option to have multiple Melee professions for PvE?

yes, melee and ranged defenses stack if they are the same

pistol/fencer - dodge

rifle/pike - block

carb/sword - counter attack


125, yes melee defense is melee defense, ranged defense is ranged defense


i think it stacks no matter what, not sure on that though

As posted above, block, dodge and counterattack stack but only work if you are holding the weapon that gave you that skill


Ranged/melee mitigation counts only once for each type you have (so if you have ranged mitigation 3 twice you only get the same benefit as having it once)


Everything else stacks and is always active (including def vs stun, kd etc) and will stack with food+drink buffsplus CA/AAs as well up to the cap.


Remember that for some stuff there is no benefit for going over 100 (I believe def vs kd is like this, you always have a 10% chance of being kd no matter what your def vs, assume it's same for all the others)


Then remember a DOT of some sort will always be your enemy

Ok, thanks for info...I'd heard some rather discouraging things about how combat Mods don't stack at all.

I couldn't find the post (it might've been in the correspondant forum, if so they said it could be made public), but a dev has stated that the 125 cap from melee defense, ranged defense, and dodge/counter/block counts both skill boxes and skill tapes. So if you had +125 melee defense from your template, skill tapes won't break the cap. You can have +100 from skill boxes and +25 from tapes, +120 from boxes and +10 from tapes, or +125 from boxes and +25 from tapes and they all count as just +125.


Food and squad leader bonuses do stack on top of the capped values for melee/ranged defense. So in theory, you could have +180 ranged and melee defense: +125 from template/tapes, +25 from vegeparsine (+melee defense) or Thundercloud (+ranged defense), and +30 from a Master squad leader's group bonus. There's also a drink that gives roughly +24 to the block skill, but none for Counterattack or Dodge. Despite the description of foods like Pikatta Pie, there is no food that improves the fencer/pistoleer dodge skill.


Defense vs. {state} skill mods may or may not give any added benefit above a certain value. Devs have stated that there is always a 5% chance of a Knockdown succeeding or failing, but different KD attacks might have different chances of sticking. So a defense vs. KD above 95 (assuming it's a percentage) might still help out for those higher-power KDs.

just want to add that block / dodge / counterattack stack if you are 2 elites of the same skill....pistol / fencer for instance you will get the benefits of the higher stacked dodge if you use either weapon. this also goes for rifleman / pikeman and carbineer / swordsman. any other combination you will only have the corresponding mods if your holding that weapon.
