I have the 4 badges. Altruism, Intellect, Honor and Courage yet when I visit the Hermit he says "take my mark of the hero" yet I don't get the badge or the ring. I have submitted a CSR ticket but that takes forever and was wondering if any of you know of a quick fix like you usually do.

Go back to the squill cave to where you get the squill skull and examine the nest/reaquire a new skull and take it to the hermit, when you do that he resets the quest. You listen to his speech and when he is done talk to him again and you should get your ring.

I had the same problem, and the csr's where no help ether. I found the workaround and helped many others. I hope it helps you.
