I disagree with this point:
-when you choose an entertainer or medic, you have to rely on other people to tip you. Don't be rude, noone is forced to give you money. Either live with the fact that only 1 out of 5 people tip you or make your money with survey/combat. Do not spam to remember to tip the entertainer/medics. That's just stupid, I tip always, but not people who do that.
Many players do not know that the only income of Entertainers is tips from other players. Many players think Entertainers get payed by the game mechanics to play music / dance in cantinas. While I do not condone spamming per se, I do think Entertainers should educate their fellow players about this. This is particularly a problem with the rampant buff bot problem.
thanks, and besides this point, great guide!

I think it's ok to inform others of this, but spamming 'pls tip me' isn't the best way to do it IMO. We need some other way to do it, like Q3PO did back in the day, telling everyone to tip their entertainers. Perhaps it's just my general antipathy towards macro spamming!
How about a message in the loading screen? Or a message of the day? If this is on the launchpad when JTL goes live, lots of people would see it.

I have been playing since October of 2004. I went out as a novice scout and marksman and started killing things. For awhile I didn't realize that any player with the skills I have can train me, so I was making money to pay the NPCs. I was helped by a few nice vets with hunting and training eventually. My most memorable newb moment is that I was poisoned and dying rapidly with no buffs or armor. I figured out enough to use the Crtl+P to search for a Doc. I shuttled to where he was and he met me, got his droid out, healed me, and then asked me if I wanted buffs. I said, "Buffs?" He explained what they were, and I said sure. He told me I could pay him back in some Naboo Carny meat that was real good at the time. Days went by and he kept contacting me to see if he could help/hunt with me. I am now part of his guild, and we go hunting together all the time. He is a good friend now, and it all started because he took the time to heal me and then give his time while i tried to kill creatures too small for him to bother with while I leveled in MM and later in TKA.
Another tip I would add that I did not see in the following posts is Artisan Contractors. In the Union halls, or whatever they are in the Main cities, there is usually an NPC for artisans who will ask you to make x number of items. These will then give you a) xp because you made them, and b) some amount of cash that you don't have to run around to get. I cannot remember if you need to get the materials or not, but this is still a good way to do more than grind for xp and will also give you cash in the process.
Hope this helps those starting out in the game.

I started my first character on Tattoine (you know, the whole "If it was good enough for Luke Skywalker then it's good enough for me" thing) and was lucky enough to hear someone say that artisan missions were great for making credits.
Absolutely correct! I was doing the Bestine-Anchorhead trip, and making between 30-45k in an hour. Shuttle times were 10 minutes apart, so as soon as I saved up enough for a speeder, I was zipping between the two towns and making even more money. I thought I needed a mask, like I was exploiting the system or something. Grab two missions, talk to the NPC's - about 20m away. Make one component, jump on the speeder and head off for the next city. Stop when the component was finished, start the next one (I had no idea you could have and use multiple generic crafting tools a that time) and by the time I got to the destination city I had my parts completed and was getting the reward. Rinse and repeat.
For today's new players, I would say get two generic crating tools, do the same thing, and add Mos Eisley in. Mos Eisley shuttle to Anchorhead, Anchorhead shuttle (then eventually speederbke) to Bestine, Bestine to Anchorhead, and then a dry run via Shuttle to Mos Eisley again. I'm sure it would be possible to make 40-60k for an hour's time invested, and then work on another skill.
