You too are added to the cry baby list of consumers complaining to other consumers because they are using there account with SOE to an extent greater than yourself, and are doing so in a way that I believe to be perfectly decent and moral. Your views on morality when it comes to SWG are just that, your views, and just because you don't like the fact that I am logged on more than you doesn’t make it wrong, you might not like it but such is life so deal. Trying to flame on me because you are jealous that I have chosen a style of play that interferes with what is ideal in your world will not **hmm feels like I've said this before** get you anywhere excpet on my s*** list when the problems you have should be directed towards SOE. Also I am not "getting away" with anything because this is not an exploit, and like I said in the previous post it is not a loop hole in the EULA, read it.

I believe there is more evidence that SOE supports the side of AFK macroing being OK since they 1. Provide an in game way to write and execute macros, 2. Enable you to turn off the auto AFK option, and 3. There is nothing in the EULA stating that you must be at your computer pressing keys while logged into your SOE account at all times. Don't lay your hang-ups on me, if you can't get on a server that is a matter for you to discuss with SOE, I have paid my subscription fee and shall use it to the fullest extent possible while remaining withinthe EULA.

Also I am not the type of person to get amusement out of others not being able to play because I am logged in, that statement only applied to SkydogHex and now it applies to you as well. I am amused by it because I think you guys are whiners and you are trying to dish off your issues to the wrong party, me, a paying customer of SOE. Go ahead and get yourself all riled up, butt hurt and flame the hell out of me, because I find that amusing as well and a good time killer for when the servers go down.

i cant go half an hour without getting kicked from server so 10 hour long sampling macros aren't viable for me

I can have like a two line one while I go eat or something, and when I come back the game will be closed cuz I got the "connection to swg server lost!" message

I am an architect, and as many know I blow through ore like there is no tomorrow... I have all of my lots used by harvesters and generators.... The real issue isnt wether or not macros are bad, the issue I have is I can sample next to any of my given harvesters for the same period of time and I by hand can sample more than it can. Yes that is right.... hearing people argue back and forth about macros or no macros is avoiding the true flaw here. Either the harvester sampling rate is to low, or the hand sampling rate is too high. Just my opinion, and people don't forget to try and have some fun out there.

Amen! I make decent money making and selling harvesters, and I use them myself, too, but I would say the stats should be changed when an AFK sampler takes in more than a harvester in the same spot (over the same period of time).

If we're going to pay these large access fees, I would think that a harvester should bring in more than I do on my own.

Judges in our court system must sometimes make rulings which are based on his or her interpretation of the "spirit of the law". No matter how the words are literally written, there is a certain intent implied by their meaning.

I think what needs to be realized here it the "spirit" of the game. When writing the code and developing the mechanics of the game, what did the devs have in mind? How did they see us playing the game? I can pretty much guarantee you that not one of them sat down and said "Hey, lets make it so that the players can go to bed at night and not log off and set up a macro that allows them to harvest or hunt or whatever 24/7. Lets make it so that many of the players can top out their skills within the first few months of playing so that they become bored and move onto other things. Lets make a way that players never have to log off and the servers will stay full all the time. That way, instead of being able to have 20,000 players with characters on each server we can only have 10,000 on each and we have to put up twice as many servers to handle the load."

Think about people, if you don't log off. That means somebody else can't log on. That means the devs have to open up more servers to handle the amount of people who want to play the game. This costs them more money. Trust me. They will change this. It's simple economics. Enjoy your fun while youcan. It will go away eventually. It is unbalanced play. They will change it. I state again, it's just plain wrong to not share. I'm not whining. I get on whenever I want. I will always get on whenever I want. The fact that you don't care that you may be intentionally doing something to take away the enjoyment of another person makes you wrong. The fact that you don't give two squats about it makes me and I'm sure a lot of other people sad. This is just an example of the major flaw in human nature...without consequences human beings generally become very very selfish and have little or no regard for others...

I don't recall anywhere in the rules that a macro that goes on, technically, forever is against the law. I think it would be foolish to get rid of it. It really isnt that fun to have to go "F12, alt+tab... F12, alt+tab..."

no think for a sec. You start off with

/stand; /sample; /pause 500; /stand; /sit; /pause 200; <---this is binded to toolbarSlot12 (doesn't matter what u bind it to)

After it's done this, it goes to the next part, which is

/ui action toolbarSlot12;

which is simply the hotkey to start the macro again. After it's done that it goes back to

/stand; /sample; /pause 500; /stand; /sit; /pause 200;

etc...

People who use Macros ,While they are AFK and earn XP and Resources in game are Lazy.

Bottom Line.

It is one thing to be Lazy in life but entirely another to carry that laziness over into a video game.The excuse of I only have this much time to play is a moot point,The whole reason Harvesters exist and power,is to mine resources endlessly.People don't want to "earn" the money in game to purchase a harvester,They don't want to take the time to put their "earned" resources up for sale in the bazaar or a vendor.Instead,They will simply make a simple Macro,click it and walk away from the PC.Gathering,XP,and resources at ZERO cost to thier character either through time,resources,or money.While others in game spend 10 min a day doing somehting so simple as opening a hopper and receving the resources they got.

It does affect other players,It decreases the need for Harvesters,With the low lot count players get Harvesters are already in low demand,It puts Ore on the market that would not be otherwise because it was sampled in areas that were not meant to be harvested from IE Towns,It gets People XP for doing nothing,While others have to work for theirs,People who harvest power for harvesters lose buyers ETC ETC.

Keep Making the exuses as to how this is ok,It has never been ok in any other MMORPG I have played and whenever loops were found they were removed asap,I surely Hope the same happens in this game.

Keep in mind that you have 6 pages of hotkeys where you can put macros. These pages are called PANES in macro speak. To change the pane you are on by command line type:

/ui action toolbarPaneXX;

Where instead of putting XX you put a number between 00 and 05 ...notice that page or pane 1 is called by the number 00 and so on. Note that the capital "P" does matter.

On your pane you have 24 slots or hotkeys. To activate a hotkey from the command line type:

/ui action toolbarSlotXX;

Where instead of putting XX you put a number between 00 and 23 ... again notice that hotkey number 24 is called by putting 23 in XX. Note that the capital "S" in slot does matter.

Follow this like to guide posted on fan sites for more information.

A note to all the people who've posted thus far.

I've read 'em all and its been a wonderful discussion. For my 2 cr worth:

It's of all the morality discussions and legal issues SWG remains just a game. It has bounds and limits as such. It is an open system where people can do almost anything. With the ability to do almost anything comes situations where people play or use the system the way they like it.

So if something is or isnt in the game the only people who can be responsible are the Devs/SOE etc. Trying to take responsibility for something out of your control only causes undue stress.

Advice: Find people in the game who are likeminded and have the same playstyles as yourself. Group and have a good time with them. Be aware that there are many others out there who are not like you. You can't change them. Have fun in the game and avoid those that cause you not to have fun.

Enjoy.

I think you people are misunderstanding the root of the word sampling. It is to sample not harvest. Its for sampling to find out the properties of the resource so you know if you should harvest it. Unfortunatly SWG devs also missed that part due to the fact that you have to sample to get xp instead of survey. So I say if it works to get you to the top of the survey tree then so be it. Its not like this exploit is going to get you to droid eng or armorsmith. However if it is going to be adressed by the devs then they should reconsider how you get the xp in that tree. Sitting in one place and hitting one button over and over for hours is not a game it is amindless waist of time. The dance and music macro loop is truly an exploit. Soon we will have cantinas full off dancers all day and all night. None of which will actually be there. Talk to them before you heal them to make sure they are there.
