Well,I ended up leaving town for the weekend, but now I am back and ready to run more names through the grinder!

From Page 21, I get to rate 3 of my fine guildsmates in this one!

Fyrr Flerr

Fyrr, welcome to my thread! Yes, on day one we met, and for about a month I thought your name was pronounced "Fur" and not "Fire." I think as these sorts of names go, it's fine, and would suggest we say your name is a nickname of some sort.

Doctor Soo Sueme

Woo! Red name on number 2! Well, it's a joke, and we all get it, but it's like the mullet: not working for the places you will want to wear it.

Noznz Mozazo

I see you made your name in red already for me, but I am afraid your name is not a poor one, just a little monochromatic. I notice you spell your name differently in your biography. Are you certain your feelings on this name are quite clear?

Ardan Darkcrest

Another guildmate. Well, I have always liked the name Ardan, it sounds active and forward (go ahead and say it aloud, no one will mind), full of heroism. Darkcrest is of course a name generator name. I have met about twenty Darkcrests in my travels. A large family indeed. The real surname, Terron, has an intriguing feel to it. All 3 names work for me.

Agathon Seth

Someone gave you five stars I see. Well, I do indeed like this name, and think the name travels on the tongue well and has a good short counterpoint to a longer name. This is a great name to demonstrate that point.

HuntinOhioan

Well, we know about the player, now we need a name for the character.

Osssikki

And to think I said three s's in a row was too much earlier. I like the feel of this name, and the jouney we take in saying it, Ditch one "s" (or move it: Ossiskki) and it would flow even better. Good name!

Kinl Adlez

The name is a bit awkward to say, which can force one to pay more attention to it, or it can force people away in frustration. To streamline it, you can shift and add, ala: Kinsel Adlez, Kinl Andlez, Kindl Alez.

Tece Daspi

Well, a third guildmember here! Welcome! I have always liked your name, especially after those Fanta Shokata videos we all made, where you could see it in a story setting. The strengths include quick sounds, a good flow and being a short name.

Sevdea

I am unsure how Wookiee this name is, and would suggest some lengthening. Sevdeakama could be an interesting example.

Devrin Leteo

Devin Leto? You have the "unfamilar yet familiar" aspect going for you. I like this name.

Xeivier Id'Yka

Well, I can't pronounce the first name without removing some vowels, so I suggest you do just that: remove some vowels. Xivier, Xever, Xivir, all look good. The last name is a good one. My safe guess is this last name was a name gen one.

Deign Asemmi

I do deign to see you. To my eye your name seems like a request. If so, an interesting idea. My daring guess is this last name is the name gen one, and you crafted the name around it.

Lokazarri

Just a gentle reminder that there are no Norse in Star Wars. May I suggest you make your own legends? "Lokaz is of course the mythical Wookiee tree swinger, the one who drops from above to play his tricks and interfere in other's business." It's easy, and fun!

-----

And here are page 22's names. I suggest you take a quick break, stare at the wall for thirty seconds, and/or do a websearch for "badger mushroom" and come back after you watched that.

Jpex Konap

How would you pronounce a name that is a NASA acronym? I would presume that you would say "Jay Pex", making the first name short in letters and long in sound. Interesting name. It works fine.

Keiyla

A good name, in real life as well as Star Wars. I would be intrigued to hear about her last name as well.

Jeytkka Aasm

I love the full last name. Perhaps this on'es clan is a famous group of warriors off world and have dropped their apostrophe in defiance of tradition? Just a thought.

A'shen Gura

Speaking of egregious apostrophes... I would suggest ditching it here. Ashen will work fine.

Ashenwok

This name needs a good backstory. This could either be a fun sounding Wookiee name, or just someone who goes by Ashen saying this is his Wookiee.

Migro Cichi

Ilike it. Good feel, almost humorous.

Xyberviri

You realize this just looks like Cyberviri? I would avoid such, unless you want SOE watching you log on and off, you know, "just in case."

Rawi

A better name than above. Riis' Law name, for sure.

Bethas Vouba

This name would serve for a human as it is, and as Bethas Vou'ba for a Bothan, unless you want to be a disgraced Bothan. Also, allow me to suggest Vouba Bethas as a name. I like the flow on that one.

Zephrum Tracer

"Zephram"? You know there is only one famous Zephram, and using his name is a cross-franchise sin? I like the last name. Though I learned something new while looking up this name: "numeral of 0 called "zephirum" in Arabian," Interesting.

Scrappa Mendo/Scrappa Laso

An interesting choice. My first instinct on your "family name" was to suggest it be a nickname conferred on a certain class of people from whatever planet you originated. Mendo and Laso should consider complimentary combat professions, should you ask me, and the Scrappa name is Grencisi (or wherever you want to be from) for folks who are deported for violent behavior. Just a thought.

Jareed St'eele

Steele would look better for a human, otherwise a good all around name!

Ipu Calamarko

I pondered this one a bit, and came up with this: Ipu is his Calamari name. As a youngling, he lived on Iridonia among the Zabrak, and acquired a "last name" that decrobed his species. You can do this, or simply realize that Mon Calamari generally have only one name.

Kzzyo

"Kizzo" is an interesting name. I like it's sound and flow. You should have that mean "Wanderer" or some such in an ancient galactic tongue.

Vestos

A little Greek, but really, you can't go wrong here, short name, looks good.

Riddix

Another good and short one. Looks good, though quite Gaulish(I especially think Asterix and Obelix on this one!)

Rasik Onarin

And Onarin can mean "Fallen" in Calamari, thus circumventing the one name rule.

Skarlath

This name actually needs a last name to feel complete in my eyes. It's not quite a stand-alone.

Resi Volk

A good cultural mix, though German players will recognize the last name word. I think this name is another good Riis' Law name.

Tenoor

I sing Tenoor as well. I like it, though it definitely doesn't strike fear in my heart!

Well, there ya go. On to Page 23!

Here are 16 names from Page 23. If you count, that means I just did fifty names in one sitting. I am a little sick of names right now . I'll be back to normal presently.

Khameer Eth

The name will work, though it looks like "come here eth" to me.

D'lai Torquenada

I'm afraid that last name will not work for me. Perhaps you can play the shift and replace game, but really, it's too culturally centered outside of Star Wars.

Pepelapaeux

Well, I understand your point, but my assertion is that we share a fiction, and we don't break it to take our minds out of it. Yes, real folks recognize it, and they recognize it is not form Star Wars or it's universe. We call this immersion breaking. On the lighter side, I think Mel Blanc would like to have a few words with you.

Ganor Jast

Fun story. Decent name. Keeper.

Anedt Imon

Another artistocrat? Wow, the galaxy is lousy with monarchies or something. At any rate, the name works quite well. You picked and selected good ones. Thanks for the pronounciation guide. I would not have pronoucned it that way otherwise.

Xitri

I can totally see this as a name generator name. As "x" names go, it's not too bad, but you should know how I feel about "x" names by now.

Maatrex De'yka

Matrix is such a dangerous word around Star Wars oriented folks nowadays. I think the name is fine.

Koniac Opiflex

If I were you (and I am not, of course), I would stick with Koniac. Mon Calamari generally only have one name, and Opiflex looks like a personal hygeine tool name.

Palan Azera

Well, you managed to save your name from the ravages of my one-name for Calamari crusade. I think you picked a good mix of sounds there.

Xizuss

Yes, indeed, your name looks like it should be "Jesus." Well, at any rate, the "x" and "z" think are very big with some folk, but you should realize by now that I am not big on them.

Evac

Funny joke for a doctor. I think the name is short and sweet and thus passes through the eye of the needle, though "cave" backwards is kind of well, hmm.

Forkis Burfoot

Whoa. Already setting up you Hobbit name for Middle Earth Online? I think, for a Trandoshan, this name is misplaced, and is marginal even for a nickname.

Fek Altor

Yep. Good name, Riis' Law.

Jamga Gibbrad

A complex one to say. It could be streamlined a bit, maybe with the "g"s being in such close proximity. Always glad to see an Altarian Ranger!

Trof

The name itself is short and passes, even if it is "fort" backwards. Now as for what it means, there are many things that go by Trof, so I don't have a solid guess. Maybe that one website I used to frequent called "The Realm of Fantasy?" I just don't know.

D'RaiVn SoH

I see what you are trying to do, but I don't think it works in this case. Maybe cleaning things up will help, but the mix of capitals and lowers just doesn't work in this genre very well. D'raivn Soh looks great, and works great as well as a name.

Fifty names in a little over an hour. I am exhausted. Thank you all for your submissions, and allowing me to advise on them. Until again!

Alright, alright!

I wanted to spark a little discussion of canon, and it worked. The correct answer is of course, "1, 3 and 5" in part because there was no Crix Maline, his name is Crix Madine. But people would look at that list, miss the misspelling, and jump on a name that fits their perception of canon. Dodonna is a shoo in, because he is mentioned by by name in the movies, but what about Bevel Lemelisk? He's the designer of the Death Star, but he is only mentioned in the books. Kyle Katarn is in a bunch of video games, a few books, etc. What is canon? What is a Star Wars name? Well, all of these names are "Star Wars." But are they all canon? A strict definition of canon would knock out Maline, Lemelisk, and Katarn. A looser one would include Lemelisk and exclude Katarn and Maline. The loosest would only exclude Maline.

My definition of canon, supported by Lucasfilm, is that all of these arenames in the continuity which is the "real" Star Wars universe, as they all created by Lucas' companies to fit into the Star Wars universe. Canon, however is strictly reserved for the movies themselves, not the books, or audiobooks, or video games, or action figures.

Now, rather than continue this discussion here, I am more than open to discussing it further in an appropriate forum, such as Star Wars Discussion, where it will get flamed and thrown into the gutter.

I say this becuase we had remained focused on names all of this time, and I would like to continue to do so.

Ok, back on page 23:

Ghoti

This is a famous joke. I recommend everyone gosearch the web or somethingand find out the joke, because to a student of language like myself it is very funny. I am serious. Obviously, since I am on to it (I've been telling the ghoti joke since I was like nine), I have to say no.

Just to say both of the characters above are male and, as I am sure you've noticed, my log in is slightly different than the first name submitted. This is because I had problems registering and without going to much into it, Keshian Rade had already been taken when I finally managed to register properly (had already registered the name but couldn't access account so had to change spelling slightly)

Darn! cought me - heheh you're good

I knew you weren't gonna like the pepe but I WAS curious about what you'd have to say about D'lai - I'll have to work on the last name; I kinda like the D'lai - might be a bit too close to D'Nai (myst/riven) though..
