I too had to change skin back because I couldn't stand that one. Colors pop too much, and it is too hard to tell what links I've already clicked.
I hope part 2 of the friday doesn't remind me of diarrhea as much as part 1 does.

my guess:
Pilots are in JTL beta.
Pilot status is conferredupon anyone who registered for the game/forum at or around launch, especially if they have a relatively high post count.
People with a high post count who registered as late as August were also considered.
A high post count is anything over 400 or so posts for those who registered soon after launch, and in the thousands for those who registered up to a month or so later.
Perhaps star rating given to messages had something to do with it as well.
