Thread: Space Expansion
The problem is that if these things are not, broadly, affordable (and by people who join the game later) then whatever subscriptions they gain will be lost within a couple of months.
Certainly legendary ships and components should be rare and no one has a right to anything - except a decent gaming experience - but there has to be a balance. As with the main skills and objects in the game you should reasonably be able to expect to afford something as you become qualified to use it. This is the level the weapons certifications seem to operate at. As you get enough Xp to move up you will be earning money from the missions/harvesting which feed that, thus allowing you to continue.
We don't know yet whether there will be a certification based skill system linked to ships, but if there was then I would not expect to have to earn 5 million credits to buy a ship. Most expensive items in the game? Sure, but if the devs are not very very careful the whole game economy will be decimated. In a scramble for cash to buy these ships prices rocket and that hurts the very new players they want to attract and retain.
To us this is leisure, to SOE and Lucasarts its a business. I have no problem with that, but to try and predict them I think its best to look to the side of subscriptions.

But how would you select where to land? Does this imply you could fly around the surface of the planet if your spaceship? That is highly improable as it would too clearly mix core and expansion gaming. What is feasible however is adding a private star port to cities where all citizens of that city could land, or visitors, sorta like a dock. maybe even go so far as t ohave a private lot you could place near your home to land on. Or if you own a large house or pa, you could land on the roof. But the landing sites are going ot have to be static, set sites.
So what if it mixes core and expansion gaming. Have you ever played a game called Anarchy Online? The expansion to that game was mixed right into the core game. People without the expansion could not recieve the buffs or trade the items that came from the expansion but, to be fair, you rarely saw anybody without the expansion.
Ok my 2 cents on the planetary landing thing. I believe you will be able to land a ship at your PA Hall. As i have seen what i believe to be evidence of this fact.
Clue#1. on every guildhall there is an open space on top of the building in which you are unable to drop anything. As the game considers it to be outside space.
Clue#2. This space is at least as big as the landing space of planetary shuttles.
Clue#3. I have moved my guildhall a couple of times. Both times i have built it in an area that has trees someof which should theoretically block the view of the sky from the top of my guildhall. Both times that has not been the case as the game clears an open space view of the sky around the area on top of the guildhall.
Now i am not saying this is definative proof but it does make you think Hmmmmmm...
Anyway just my thoughts. Feel free to agree or disagree ![]()
ok you basically reitterated what i said. im not saying that power gamers alone should get them. i said that they need to be earned. and saying that you pay the same as i did is reduclious. if i open a force slot busting my butt for weeks na months? only to have some one unable to play threw whine that they cant get it? they dont have time? then i say get a game you dont need to play for hundreds of hours to make your toon grow. thats what the skill tree is about. now when it comes to ships im saying that they should not be just handed out. you dont one day decide you want sonething and go get it. you earn it by getting the materials or even OMG working for it. everyone else has. i pay 750k on avrage every two weeks for decent armor. you think you should only have to pay 20k for the same armor since you dont have time to earn the money to buy it? come on i hope the dev's dont cater to that mind set. yea some cant get great ships but that is called starting small. work your way up and stop saying they owe you for buying the game. that is the most asnine thing i have ever heard.

thankyou master ryshyaak. its nice to know that there is someone out there who does understand my drive for ENJOYING what i earn. guys im not trying to say cater to the short timers or the power gamers. just that there is a meeting point not skewed by either. yea sure make it realistically affordable to those who are not on 23 hours a day, so they can get A ship but no where near what someone who is looking for better can get.. but at the same time it has to be something that gives those who are online much more ofter a sence of accomplishment or it just feels like a waste of time. If you buy a set of bone armor for 15k and you got a bank roll of milions that armor ain't gonna mean much to you because you can just go replace. it has lost its inherent value. now if the loss of your ship means your stuck at the mercy of another gamer or even back to the old 10min waiting line then that makes that much more depth to the gaming experience. no more so than the armor decay and ware and tear on your weapons does. i dont want life to be difficult for you. i want more depth. pirates stealing your ship. space raids on your shipping route that you can go pillage and destroy a imp 22. unrealistic? is it really? or are you stuck in the mind set i want my moneys worth or this game sux's? guess what you pay the money because the game presented a challenge to you and now you grow tired of it. whats wrong didn't make jedi when you completede your holo quests? now the dev's owe you something? if your imp all i owe you is a nice warm flame bath. and if your a rebel ill buy you a set of armor and a torch to go kill imps. that is the game. that is what you pay for. se? its not out yet. i had to earn my skills. they weren't given to me. you think i wanna see ships just given away? 500k is dirt cheap to me. 5million is about where i see a shuttle like what we see at the shuttle ports. BAH i tire of this. if you get what you want you will get bored with the game like so many and leave. then the dev's are out just as much as if they make you WORK and you decide it hard....Part of the enjoyment of the game is to help others out. watch them grow. show some pride in what you do accomplish and share it with you guilds freinds and faction members. above all have fun but not at the expence of anothers account or enjoyment.
