Thread: Does SWG reward loyal players for longevity?
I have a couple of thoughts...
I played UO for a few years, and we received "veteran rewards" for our long term loyalty to the game. These were in the forms of special possessions that only accounts of a certain age or greater could use and additional skills points. Something like that would be welcome here, as players are often looking for ways to make their characters stand out. And of course, players always welcome things that give them advantages.
Possible rewards that SWG could use:
- Extra skills points (something like 5 - 10 per year)
- Extra lots (1 per year)
- Prestige titles
- Prestige items (like the goggles)
- +1 CL control per year
The other problem I see is a lack of diversity... all Master Weaponsmiths are the same, all Master Bounty Hunters are the same. Once you hit Master, there should be a way to obtain a specialization, and each character could only have 1 of the specializations for a given profession. Each profession would have four specializations which would give benefits, abilities or schematics.
Never Mind that! SOE will get the Bill for that Game soon enough ! my IG Buddylist holds around 100 players, 2 month ago at least 40-50 of them where online when i logged in, NOW its a HUGE amount when 4 or 5 of them are Online! and no the dont have Started on another Server or a new Character ![]()
I mean i played SWG now for around 6 Month, and Still NOTHING is Fixed on 4 Differnt Character Classes i tryed !
Baelin,
I completely agree with you. Especially since I'm a former ACer too. It was a very sad the daywhen Iquit AC, I took a bunch of screen shots of my character and I'm planning to have a framed 8x10 of him. I invested a lot of time in my AC character and that character is a reminder of all the accomplishments and quests that I've done for almost 3 years of my life. He was a huge investment of my time and there's was always something to look forward too with the next level or next skill point or new quests that opened up... there was always something right around the corner in AC that made you want to keep playing your character.
I'm afraid once I reach Master Pistoleer, which is only 2 skill boxes away, there really isn't anything else to look forward to. At the moment, I'm out hunting in groups and having fun gaining the xp for these 2 last boxes. Once I become Master Pistoleer, I'll have some fun with my new, ahem, broken skills and then what?
I've never understood the geniuses at Turbine when they came out with AC2 instead of just upgrading the graphics of AC. I still don't understand why they haven't upgraded AC.
I'm hoping the Space Expansion will keep my attention, since I was addicted to "Allegiance" (if anyone remembers that game). If it's anything like that game, I'll be in my ship all day long shooting down Imps.
We need more rewards for our accomplishments, not just badges. Visiting the waterfalls and getting a badge was so stupid, I started laughing so hard,it actually brought tearsto my eyes.
Granted, you'd probably get some complaints from city mayors struggling with the six-week-idle-citizen thing when they have no means to move an "abandoned" structure. (See the politician forums for more on this ongoing issue). As a reward for sticking with it though, I like this one a lot.

Would you really want to hang out inside bestine for months and months because you can't kill the krettles that roam the hills just outside? My master musician's been in-game since early July and *still* can't kill the kreetles roaming the hills just outside Bestine
Some perks for long time subscribers would be cool though. IRL you pay off your mortgage in 15-20 years, maybe aftera structure has been up for six months your maintenece drops by 50%. I *really* like this idea.. even if I did recently move a few structures to re-organize a town square.
Excellent Idea. They would have to make sure though that all specializations had good use though because otherwise everyone would be in the one that had the slightest edge. You can experiment food in 4 categories, but somehow, all BE enhanced brandy ends up with 395+. ONE time I saw a brandy with 80 charges but it was like +195 with 49 filling. It was a single brandy, but who would use it ?

As a fellow AC alumni, I salute you. I was on Thistledown, btw. I've no doubt you understand the points I'm trying to make. You and I have probably tread similar ground. The islands of Aerlinthe, Vesayen, Caul, and Marae Lassel. Deep into the Direlands toFort Tethena, Mt. Lethe, and the Obsidian Plains. Hidden cities such as Frore and Xarabydun. Battled foes such as the Olthoi Queen, Aerfalle, and the Hopeslayer. These were good times. They left such an impact on me when taking part in them. Why? Because going to these places and facing these foes was a testiment to my commitment. I "earned" the right to these places and things. I didn't start playing, then within 4 weeks leap over to Aerlinthe Island. That wasn't possible. There were hundreds of places to go. Many available to beginners. Many more as you developed. Some people believe everything should be available to you the second you first activate your account. If this is true, then we all have nothing to look forward to.
Galahede, remember pack dolls? To those that don't know, pack dolls were miniature versions of creatures from AC. They stood about knee high to your character and did a small animated move representative of the creature they portrayed. Very rare. One time offer. Highly coveted and sought. I was fortunate to have all 13. Took a very long time and a lot of wheeling and dealing but I finally managed to track down all 13. They were my treasure. I had every mask in the game (including Jack O' Lantern). I had every rare drop (e.g., Serpent's Fang, Soul Staff, Dark Sorcerors Philactory, etc.) I had "most" major quest items (e.g., Aerfalle robe, Sword of Lost Hope, Virindi Shroud, etc.). Never managed to get a Queen's Head, but I was working towards it. My house was a monument to my trials and tribulations. My SWG house is equally stocked with quest items and trophies, but I don't seem to be able to place as much value in them. They came too easy and are too common to feel proud of them. But, I'm a collector (*cough*pack rat*cough*), so I make the effort.
Someone replied to this thread stating that they work 40 hours a week and have an "actual" life. They then shouldn't be expected to have to work very hard for instant gratification. Fine. If you want quick satisfaction, then you're getting it. Problem is, as quickly as you get it, this type of satisfaction is often fleeting. Quick thrill, fastchill. If it doesn't require much effort to gain something, you tend to place less value in it. Real life doesn't give you your best rewards unless you're spoiled. The things that really matter, required dedication and varying degrees of perseverence. However, the "fast food" mantra has found its way into the MMORPG. Many games are now becoming as bland and tasteless as a hamburger (without the side order of fries). In the end, it is all about time, isn't it? Just remember, the less you invest, the less the payout.

I understand what you're feeling. My first two mastered professions were Teras Kasi Master and Master Creature Handler. They weren't the "flavor of the month" professions when I picked them up. Teras Kasi hadn't been boosted. Creature Handler had just been nerfed from being able to call out 3 Rancors at once. After a while, TK got a boost, CH got nerfed even further (into the sad state it is now), and I ended up dropping MCH. However, for over a month, I was maxed out. I stopped getting experience. No TK, CH, or combat xp. My only reward for going hunting with worthless loot or harvested organics. At least in AC, looting meant something. Pyreal motes, crystal shards, armor, weapons, etc.. Even junk weapons and armor were worthwhile since you could melt these down for raw resourses.
In SWG, I ran out of stuff to do.I donned my explorer hat and started visiting all the planets. Before POI badges were introduced, I had already been to every single place of interest in the galaxy. Many places I researched the location of, others I stumbled upon. Vehicles and mounts weren't in the game yet, so I made each journey on foot. I've been in every cave. I fished on every single planet (even Tatooine). I printed out a list of every single creature in the galaxy and crossed them off one by one until I had slain at least one of each. I talked to every possible NPC in every town on every planet and did every possible quest. I have immersed myself into this galaxy as much as anyone else could have. In the world of a MMORPG, I'm an adventurer, an explorer, and a warriorat heart. I can't be anything else. Yes, I get bored. Like a soldier after the war is over, I sit in a cantina and wonder what use this world has for the likes of someone like me. The GCW? Well, it is still being waged, but it seems more like a pillow fightthan an epic battle. I do my part, but my part carries no where near the significance of "defending the last crystal".
So, I keep playing. I keep hoping to find my place. I've set my roots here, but they don't go very deep and the soil is weak and loose. However, my "type" of game play is a fossil. I'm a dinosaur and all the quick fix junkies look at me more like they are waiting for me to turn into gasoline so they can zoom zoom off to speedier pursuits. Don't get too disheartened though. SWG, despite its early age, does have potential. I'm hoping it lives up to it.

I had made previous posts where I tried to list some ways to reward players for accomplishments. Some were wild and crazy, such as small tattoos for a players arms and torso. Some were middle of the road, like adding a tab to a players profile so that medals and ribbons were visible. Some were mild, such as a unique item of clothing or costume. I think Pack Dolls would go over well in SWG. Some loot drops are components for weapons or armor (e.g., armor segments, blaster barrels, etc.) but these do not carry the same weight as finding a pyreal mote or a crystal shard. Looting a warm hat or a wooly jacket pales compared to looting a piece of covenant armor or a Dire Ursuin coat. The Genosian Cave? Please. Send any SWG player into the Sepulcher of the Hopeslayer, then tell me the definition of a tough dungeon.
Well, I'm really not here to bash SWG or SOE. I know I seem critical, but it's not hate; it's hope. Unlike many quick fix junkies, I've already tried to embed myself as deep as I can into SWG. Now I'm just waiting to see what the future brings. I'm not impatient. Things take time and I'm willing to invest it. I just hope this isn't going to be a fools errand.
