While its EASIER to compose the letter in textpad or notepad, you actually can do it in the game's email as well... or the games notepad, maybe that is what he meant. Regardless, if you compose it in SWG's email just do the #RRGGBB[text] and the put the \ in afterwards. This way you can still see your code as you type it, etc. Wouldn't recommend this for a long letter with too many changes but its handy for short stuff and it lets you see the results of your color codes right away as opposed to writing it all out and then pasting it into SWG's email to see the results.
If I want to color or use multiple lines in my building sign, I will compose the sign in the game's email applet using the above method and then copy/paste it into the change building sign box.

PS. I also agree that copy/paste of some sort should be a default in SWG, never really figured out why it isn't lol - I like to use Ctrl+Alt+V or C or X but same concept, its nice to somewhat emulate the windows copy/cut/paste keys within the game...
How do you do multiple lines on a sign?

Just compose a multiple line length of text in /note or in the in game email and then cut and paste it into the sign naming window.
So:
This is my
house sign
Then just highlight both lines, press CTRL-SHIFT-X to cut and go to name house and in the window that pops up press CTRL-SHIFT-V and it will paste both lines. (that is if you have remapped cut and paste to these keys like Thunderheart describes in the first post of this thread)
