Do PSGs actually protect against a light saber or not?
I thought I read once that even though the PSGs say that they protect against light saber damage, but that they don't actually help.

The developers intended for this to be done in a group. The old man explicity says that Mellichae is tough so you should bring some friends.
A trick with the crystals is to simply examine them. Wait for about 10 seconds, and if it is the wrong crystal to kill, you will see the healing animation (white heart going into it) once every 10 seconds. The crystal without that is the one to start with.
About the conceal shot thing: I did this a week after pub 10 so this may be out of date info, but when I killed the third crystal by conceal shot, Daktar, the 2nd in command, immediately aggroed me. He said my name in spatial and told me I was going to die so I assume he will automatically aggro once his healing crystal is destroyed. He used a striker pistol at range though so I laughed in my 80% kinetic.
After he was dead I went to work on the fourth crystal and once again I was immediately aggroed when Mellichae's healing crystal blew up. That mofo hits hard!

These kinds of comments just make me laugh. I think it's a ridiculous argument to say: Non-combatants can't become jedi because..." Who cares?! Why should they become jedi? The whole jedi profession is centered around combat. Obi-wan said in ANH that jedi were the "defenders of truth and justice". Do you think they did that by changing the color of hair, or by making brandy? No, they did it by being super combatants. If all the crafting classes want to be jedi, "unlearn what you have learned' dump your stupid crafting class and pick up the skills that Jedi should have. You can't balance this encounter to be universally serving for all classes. You would need a different encounter for every kind of profession. Yoda tells you: " to become a jedi you must bake the most powerful Waffle in the galaxy" It just boggles the mind the way some people think.
I can't see how this is even remotely possible. This would mean that anyone who chose a purely crafting type profession would have no chance of becoming a jedi.

ima master rifle and ima bring at least a master doc and a master swordsman and another master rifle friend. then ima buy about 10 personal sheild generators because i saw some the other day with 45% resists to lightsaber damage, ill give that to the tanker, and if i use tkm ill use one and i wont if i use rifle. but distract mallichae with a swordsman or sumthing and have someone or two people do the cystals. good guide tho if its just you.

"The group thing just makes no sense at all."
Heh, maybe you should try one of the massively solo player online games instead.

I think the dev's hot fixed it because it was made to be done alone and not with your whole guild
I can't see how this is even remotely possible. This would mean that anyone who chose a purely crafting type profession would have no chance of becoming a jedi. I grudgingly accepted the fact that a group is needed to kill this guy, but saying that it was intended to be done solo is just ridiculous. You might be right about the spawning thing, but it also could have been a one time fluke as well.

Helped someone else do it. I'm a Master Swordsman/Brawler and some defense stack. The others were Master Rifleman/Doc, and Rifleman/Doc/CM mix. It was easy. I was expecting some monster and Mellichae only hit me for 300 w/o synthsteak and specials. He didn't get a chance for specials though cause we crushed him. Of course we already had the rest of the crystals and ham'n'eggers killed but he was a wuss.

I'll never get this quest lol. I've been online since launch with no vacations, and I entered the village the day it went live. BUT I dumped all my xp I had saved over the entire year into the FS conversion and all I got back was 50k FS xp. Thats not even enough to learn the novice lvl!
You are telling me I have to master 6 branches? Check back with me again in 2042, I might actually have 3branches done.

so basically this thing is not meant to be solo'd (otherwise it'd be impossible for crafters to ever get a jedi toon).
well done SOE, and I'm serious.
and thanx for the guide btw, won't probably help me cause I'm not going for jedi, but it'll help alot of guys
A true crafter cannot do the FS quests because you NEED combat. You need Master Medic for one of the FS quests. And it blows..
Now I havent looked into all the FS quests but the ones ive seen, ya need either combat something or master medic. See above.. Its blows.

as i stands right now, i am a master brawler, tkm, master swordsman with 4/2/3/0 medic. when i am able to get the quest to kill mellichae i will me master swords/ tkm/ medic 4/2/3/0.
if i get a LS PSG and take synsteak. what are the odds i can solo the quest?
That was/is pretty much my template. Simply bring along a few extra swoops, simply intimidate 2, warcry 2, mindhit a couple times quickly, jump on bike, run a nice little circle around the camp til the bleed falls off, rinse and repeat.
Every once in a while he will go after your bike, so when he does just use burst run to get far enough away to peace, and keep from getting re-aggro'd when his bleed ticks, bust out a new bike and wait abit so your not tired in case he toasts it again.
I would however bring a friend along to distract mallechei though when taking the crystals, even with toughness and a good 48% LS shieldgen you won't last more than a couple handful of hits from the guy, get someone to take aggro on him to lead him away from the camp a bit, take the crystals that don't heal themselves (green), then the 2 red, kill or outright ignore theother guy without the LS and the sith spawns and do the above listed for mallechei and it should be a 25min cakewalk.
