I really just hope they do it right, it will bring new life to SWG if it's done with the attention it deserves.

Most of the things I want have already been mentioned.

A wide variety of detailed ships built to scale, meaning I can walk around in it, hopefully store things in it, etc. Also I want to be able to see my ship when I dock, so I can really see how large it is when I get off.

Then there's the faction implicatiosn....

Purchasing "wingmen" from the recruiters, faction specific ships, rank specific ships (hopefully).

Then you should be able to "hire" an NPC or two to take care/fly your ship for you, things of that nature.

To toss DE's into the mix I think that problems should randomly occur on your ship and a droid is required to keep it maintained. So maybe code in scenarios where your hyperdrive fails or you coupler keeps coming loose and a droid is needed to fix those kinds of things.

I dunno, I may be getting ahead of myself here, I just hope they really put some thought into this, if the SE flops, this game is gonna die, at least for me, that's the one hope keeping me playing right now.

Devs! Devs!!!!! DEVS!!!! are you listening?!?!

These are all GREAT ideas

It should also be like it (just an idea) that you can buy faction starfighters from recruiters for about the same cost as a middle sized base (dont remember the names).

I REALLY REALLY hope you can walk around in your ship.

Lets try once more, everybody!!!!

One....

Two....

THREE!!!!

DEVS!!!!!! come look!!!!!!

I'm all for being able to walk around your ship and being able to 'modify' it.

In fact...i would be GREATLY disappointed if you couldnt walk around your ship or customize the interiorwhile its landed. This is a KEY element for Star Wars...don't blow it. As for walking around it in space...that would be FANTASTIC. Not to sure how they would do this, but i'm all for it.

I know they probably wont have the Uber Mods (like being able to change part of your ships appearence to account for say....a new engine) but i hope they do have some minor mods that are allowed/working. Upgrading Hyperdrives, Adding better weapons systems/better armor, a better sensor suite....all those kinda of things.

Makes me eager just thinkin bout it

Smaller ships (one man fighters perhaps) docking on player owned Cap ships.

Imagine a PA run Capital Ship coming under attack and everyone rushing to their fighters to defend it. I need new pants just thinking about it.

Speaking of which, how will they handle ship damage? Total destruction or disablement like current vehicles?

That's the way I imagine the space expansion should be.

*MY WISH LIST FOR SPACE EXPANSION*

1: Construction

Get all the crafters in on starship construction, the basic hull could be constructed by Architects, Engines and Computers (nav and targeting) by Droid Engineers, Weapons by Weaponsmiths, Armor and Shields by Armorsmiths.

Allowing the majority of the crafters to be involved in Starship construction could cause slight difficulties, imagine the stress in the age of hologrinding of finding fellow crafters to make some of the components for you. However if Starships are made up of parts changeable by other crafters after the ship is built this could be bypassed. Have an Architect build you a basic ship, after a while you decide you want better armor and shields so you take it to a Armorsmith who upgrades both for you.

2: Customization

No not just color make everything costomizable. Stock weapons on your frieghter getting you down go to your local Weaponsmith and get an upgrade. Hyperdrive not fast enough? Track down a Droid Engineer to build you a better Nav System and Hyperdrive Motivator. etc etc

Slicing, this is supposedly illegal in the upcoming patch, rightly so i think, but if i can get a Smuggler to slice my carbine why wouldnt he be able to do the same to my Starship. Take your ship in and get the Armor Weapons Engines, and Computers sliced. Want more storage space? Have a Smuggler put in hidden compartments to store your loot. With hidden compartments Smugglers would be able to actually smuggle things past the heavy Stormtrooper patrols.

3: Crew

Ships should be similiar to houses. I bought this game because i love Star Wars, the thought of wandering the deserts of tattoine or exploring the ancient jedi temples is a powerful draw to me, I am also a huge fan of Science Fiction in general and the thought of walking around my own ship fills me with delight. Ships should be crewable by multiple people, although this shouldnt be a requirement to run a ship.

Lets say i've purchased a ship similiar to the Millennium Falcon, i can fly the ship and fire all my weapons foward, but to get the most out of my turreted weapons i would need actual gunners firing them for me. For those of you who play Battlefield 1942 think of something along the lines of the B-17. Also giving Artisans the ability to create Component repair tools for the starships would allow larger ships to have Engineering crews to repair battle damage.

NPC Crew: You should be able to hire npc's to crew your ship, have them man the guns, and fly some of the fighters. On the larger Warships the owner of the ship should be responsible for first supplying the fighters and then replacing them, not to mention crewing them. In order to control the fighters you would need some one maning some kind of communications station in effect telling the fighters "attack" "follow" etc. this could be complimented by going and naming some of the npc pilots. Name 6 of them Beta for instance then send out the order Beta Attack and beta squadron will attack the target. On other types of ships allow npc vendors to sell items.

4: SpaceDock

It would be awesome if i could go to Anchorhead or Bestine hop a shuttle and take it up to the Orbiting SpaceDock were i could check out my friends ships and board my own. Allow Vendors to "rent" spaces on the SpaceDock to sell ships, parts, repairs etc. Perhaps make Some of the SDocks Imperial or Rebel as well with the appropriate guards and patrols.

5: Ships

Keeping in mind the time frame of the game, i've been told SWG is based on the expanded Star Wars universe so it includes things from both the movies, books, and games. This game is set during the 3 years between the Battle of Yavin and the Battle of Hoth.

Small Craft: As with the larger ships all fighters should be customizable with Hyperdrive, Engines, Shields etc. Both the Y-Wing and Tie Bomber should be able to hold more then 1 person. (the vehicles of the SE)

Rebel Fighters: X-Wings andY-Wings

Imperial Fighters: Tie Fighters Bombers and Prototypes

Neutral Fighters: Cloakshape Fighter and X-95 Headhunter

Medium Craft: Alot of the frieghters would fall into this class. Due to their portrail in all of the Star Wars lore these craft should be the most customizable, and outside of one of the large Warships they should be some of the most powerful. All of these craft should be able to carry numerous people and many should have multiple positions manable. (the houses of the SE)

Imperial Transport:Lambda Shuttle(Tydirum) and Sentinel Class Landing Craft (sorry dont have a name for it)

Rebel Transport: YT-1300 Transport (Millennium Falcon) and YT-2400 (Outrider)

Neutral Transport: Firespray Patrol and Attack Ship (Slave I) and YV-666 Light Freighter (Hound's Tooth)

Large Craft: The Warships in SWG, they should naturaly be the toughest most heavily armed ships out there. Due to their military nature i see them as the least customizable of the ships, these are built in large goverment controled facilities so they have little varriation. Yes i know the Mon Cal ships are supposedly as unique as snowflakes but for game purposes (balance) they cant be two incredibly varriable. (the PA halls of SE)

Imperial Warship: Imperial I Class Star Destroyer

Rebel Warship:Mon Calamari MC80 Star Cruiser (Home One)

Neutral Warship: Corellian Engineering Corporation Corvette (Tantive IV the rebel blockade runner)

I know this is supposed to be a rebel ship but its known for getting past Imperial blockades and its supposed to be a very common ship, also its smaller size would allow for individual owners not just the larger PA's (think of it as a poor mans Warship)

6: Hyperdrive

We can all see the Galactic Map, if you dont remember hop in game real quick and look at how the systems are interconnected, I would prepose that those would be the routes ships could travel. The Space Expansion is supposed to include not just new Ships but new Species and New Words. New Worlds meens new Hyperspace lanes to travel. Supposedly the Hyperspace lanes are not totaly mapped in SW so ships follow predictable routes so limiting travel to those lanes would be technicaly correct from a universe standpoint.

I think it should take time to get from point A to point B in your own ship, however i do not think that the starport system and shuttle system should be changed. Taking a Shuttle from one starport to another is nearly instantaneous yes, but, it also costs credits. Given the option between taking my speeder and riding the shuttle i'll take my speeder 9 times out of 10, why waste the credits? If i was in a hurry however i would happily cough up the money to save time. Starships should be the same way they get you there eventualy but you dont pay for it out the nose.

Hyperdrives should have differing speed values. If i buy an expensive Class .5 hyperdrive i should arrive within about 5 minutes or so however if i am using the generic Class 2 civilian hyperdrive my ship came with then it should take 15 min or so atleast. The travel times can of course be juggled around a bit, perhaps if you want to pay a "toll" you can take an approved Imperial Hyperspace travel lane that would transport you instantaneously.

7: Imperial Crackdown

Their should be Imperial NPC Warships orbiting worlds that i may have to avoid if i dont want to be boarded and searched for contraband. These ships could include some of the larger model Stardestroyers, and lots of Tie Fighters, they are expendable after all. Perhaps one of the new worlds could have a Hidden Rebel base with its own orbital defenders as well.

Mynocks, and Space Sluggs should also be found in space, though the one that nearly swallowed the falcon is an exceptionaly large specimen. Also NPC pirates would be nice i'd love to get a mission were i swoop in and save a liner from harm.

oh well thats all for now i have some more ideas i may post later but this has gone overlong allready. thx for your time and sorry about the long post

Yeah if they just pasted Star Wars skins onto Freelancer I wouldn't be too disappointed. Good control method w/o needing a joystick too.

Things I would like to see:

  • High interactivity-Cap ships should have personal quarters, tons of npcs running around, the ability to be in charge of every aspect. Hyperdrive fried and none of your engineering npcs are left and none of your friends can fix it? Order someone else to drive while you take the elevator to where you need to go and fix it with a radial menu and some artisan crafted supplies.(Would cost lots of fp and need a certain number of PCs to run)

  • Boarding-Uh-oh, looks like that SD that just whooped you is preparing to board. Lock off sensitive areas and call the troops up to defend. Having a massive fight to defend your ship would be so fun. So would fixing the hyperdrive and taking off. SD following, battle raging inside, ect.

  • Storage-need I explain? I really don't want to drop all the supplies we need inside personal quarters, so devs, give us a nice little ole cargo bay.

  • Fighters and Launch bays-Self explanatory, we should be able to scramble fighters to help us and our friends.

  • Being able to land and open up anywhere on a planet w/ medium and small ships. Imagine a freighter full of goods setting down in a field next to a city and start selling stuff. (although no land zones would be needed inside static cities.)

  • Along with this comes a thrilling scenario-Attacking a base. Cap ships hyper into a system, launch fighters and transports and then they zoom down to the planet. Fighters fly overhead providing cover while transports land and unload troops into the heat of battle.

  • Space bases and EVA-We need to be able to control space bases, raid space bases, and (hopefully) build space bases.

  • Raid-We need many imperial controlled bases for imperials to launch from and rebels to attack. Also included in this are imperial asteroid outposts and the like. Rebels need a few hidden ones, they mainly operate from carrier ships though.

  • Control-How about npc faction bases hidden around the galaxy. Taking one over would A) Get you imperial fp and money or B) Get you the goods for the rebel alliance.

  • Build-A modular system would be nice, similar to battlefields. Mining and supplying would be the main reason for these ouposts to exist, and would be expensive. Also, they could be a space home to a PA.

OK, I'll stop now, anyone like these ideas?

That guy in the celebration video is annoying. I kept barking at the screen "Shut up! Shut Up!"

The space expansion looks pretty sweet though. It feels A LOT like the x-wing games. And I loved the wake trails coming off the back to the ships as they twisted and turned. If the SE is still infact like the video, then we are in for one helluva ride.
