I use aliases mainly to write in mutiple chat channels without changing the Chat tabs.
Most of the Spam from the Guildchat, the "open" guildchat, the GerCom and so on is dispalyed in the Spatial Chat Tab.
I made an alias for every Channel, for the open Guildchat:
/alias dc /SWG.goarth.chat.Dragon (You'll find the Adress of the Chanel in its "Modify Tab" window)
Now i have a command similar to the /gu for the guldchat. /dc Moin Dragons! will write "Moin Dragons!" in the channel Dragon.
verry useful if you chat in several channels

Another tip in regards to chat: Channels in the "Chat" area can be accessed directly as a slash command without the need for an alias. In your case, you can chat using

/dragon hello dragons

Of course the /dc alias is still shorter but it gives you the annoying "executing alias" line.

This should be cleared up in Publish 19

you opened the flood gates now...

Will the LOS exploit in the rryatt trails be fixed soon?
Will the chat window resetting be fixed soon?
Will the WP window creeping up be fixed soon?
When will we hear about the 2 year rewards (free toon! hell free paddy at that for two year people).

My tip...oh, yeah it is tip time...
If your WP monitor window thing is missing odds are is has went off the top of your screen...start opening lots of WP's till it is back on the screen then drag it down to where it should be.

Each week, we start a thread for you to your share game tips with fellow players. Be sure to join in and add your helpful tip.

Do you have a little known command you use all the time?

A cool place to visit?

A trick (non-exploit) to getting more out of the game? Share it here.

This week's tip comes from JenTara - - thanks for sharing such a great tip!

Using the /alias command

By: JenTara

Are you tired of typing out /ui action toolbar blah blah? Do you talk to people on other servers and are tired of having to type out something like /tell intrepid.jen'tara?

You can create your own slash commands! Just type /alias followed by your command, followed by what you want the command to do.

A few examples...

/alias whatup What's up, %TT?
=
/whatup
= What's up, Jen'tara Rhee? (Assuming I am your target)

/alias dancing /macro dancing

this would run your dancing macro without having to hotkey it or type out /macro

and finally my favorite...

/alias jentara /tell intrepid.jen'tara

will let you send me a tell just by typing

/jentara Hello, how are you today?
=
You tell Intrepid.Jen'tara Rhee, "Hello, how are you today?" (Assuming you are not on Intrepid, if you are then it will just do the name, no server, but still put the server in your alias so you can do it from any of your characters on any server)

Finally, be careful not to use already established emotes or commands, as your aliases WILL overwrite the game defaults... IF you need to delete an alias, then you must close the game, then go into your star wars folder and find the text file "aliases.txt" and just delete the aliases you want to get rid of, or if you are really adventurous... add more manually

Special thanks to furryjackal that originally told ME of the aliases.

Do you have a useful tip that you want to share with your fellow Star Wars Galaxies players? E-mail it to SWGTips and if we select the tip we'll post it as the Tuesday Tip and give you the credit! Send us the character name and server you'd like us to include if we post the tip.

thats an oldie but a goodie

I hate doing this but since its my first "first"....

First!

Now my tip. An expansion on the aliases. Hate that it takes so long to decorate your house? Use aliases to help move your furniture.

My aliases are set up as

/up - /move up

/md - /move down

/rr - /rotate right

/rl - /rotate left

/mf - /move forward

/mb - /move backward

now instead of typing /move up 10 its just /up 10. Also use ctrl and the up arrow to repeat the last command for further ease of use.

Enjoy

(Copied and pasted from a Teusday Tip in march, (An earlier post of mine))

If somebody has a really hard name to type in and you like talking to them but its a pain to type (example) /t Jon'Smith'Da'm'a'n' (messege);

Then you can set up an alias to talk to him like this...

/alias jon /t Jon'Smith'Da'm'a'n' <-----(without a semi colon after it)

Now all you will have to do is type /jon (messege)and it will /t Jon'Smith'Da'm'a'n' (messege)

Please note that if you put a semi-colon at the end of the alias it will not work! It will end the command and say you need to send a messege....

P.S. This works with find friend also /alias ff /findFriend <-- Without a semi-colon, now all you have to do is /ff <name>.

I've set up /findf aliases for all my guildmates with their rl names so I can type /steve and /neil to find them.

I keep my combat tab seperately so I can monitor combat and still see my chats. I found when I have to chat windows open like this, the "executing alias" spam does not show up.
