I wouldn't worry about star ratings anymore, they are being removed soon. We get to keep our snazzy titles regardless as well.

I had actually tried this in the past. I have since turned everything back on. I find that during game time things will slow down because it is now trying to cache on the fly opposed to already having the data on hand. This was most noticable with my graphic turned way up and in highly graphically rich area's. I personally would rather wait a few seconds on a loading screen then lag during game. However if you do have limited memory this is a very very good option. But if you have a lots of RAM and a fast disk I/O then it is not worth it. For me there is only a 30 secound difference on the loading screen. With these setting on my loading time is about 5 seconds with them off it is about 30-40 seconds depending on where I am loading into.
Some of my specs.
Atholon 64 3400+
1 GB RAM
200 GB 7200 RPM SATA drive
256MB nVidia 6600
3.5Mbs cable connection
RAM will give you the best return followed by fast disk I/O. If you can not replace your hard drive, but currently have two hard drive try moving your swap file to the hard drive that the game is not installed on. This will split the I/O between two drives. But if none of this is an option then use main posters suggestions. Just remember that you are subjecting yourself to a high probability of lag or connection loss.
