If these "new" missions don't involve the rotw expansion then yes you can do them. Cancel your account because of expansions? That's up to you, but expansions are a way of life in mmorpg's they all have em, EQ has a gazillion so far.

exactly, don't think that Blizzard is exempt for the desire to make profit.

Starcraft and Warcraft all had expansions to buy, so i don't see why WoW would be any different.

and to the initial poster, head to the Dearic Cantina, and talk to Mort standing by the bar. if he gives you a mission, then yes, you can do the non JTL/RoTW missions that were added. Mort's quests for Clone Armor does not require going to Kashyyyk or flying in space, so that's the best way to test.

the boba fett mission wouldn't be a good test, because i believe there is a space mission for his quest, and that would require JTL.

First I run multiple accts. And yes two were JTL enabled a long time ago. I bought one ROTW for one of the accts that already had JTL its my main acct.

I got a cyber arm last nite and traded it to one of my other accts. He was able to take the arm and I was thinking he might be able to use it. I go to the cyber guy in the hospital and he tells me to buy the Expansion LOL.

There are a lot of really quest rewards and some are no drop items. Cant trade them no matter what you do. But some seem to be fine to trade to others. I know that the weapons that you trade are usible.

I wasnt really sure what to hink about ROTW but as of now it is a total blast. The quests really do have meaning and are fun to do. You will miss so much if you just go from point A to point B and complete the quests. But I also remember when JTL came out space was all the rage and now most people dont fly. But whenn you think about it this is star wars. Arent we all suppose to be flying. The dynamics in space are awsome the graphics rock. SOmetimes a little lag and the ships tend to jump all over the dam place. But something has always been missing. PVP is to fast paced. One or two good hits and you die. So lets see in a month how many are still playing ROTW.

But in this type of game the main new content will always be an addon. Yes you are a paying customer and you say you want new content. Dont you remember that little DL a few weeks ago called the CU.

Also keep in mind that new content isn't 100% limited to expansions.

You didn't need an expansion to go to the Death Watch Bunker, the Corellian Corvette, Aurillian Villiage quests, and more recently, the Syren Story Arc (which appears stuck at chapter 2 right now, because the expansion sort of put that on hold). None of that new content that was added over the course of the game required any additional purchase from the players. Hopefully they do continue adding new content for everyone, but we just need to wait and see i guess.

Sorry Soix, the whole point of the expansion (from the SOE point of view) is to get you to pay for it. The odds are that you can't do quests that are implemented with RotW. If you could then you wouldn't need to pay.

Expansion packs such as these always contain stuff that put non-expansion purchasers at a disadvantage. Maybe the mobs in the region drop much more money, maybe there are quests, maybe there are cool items that are untradeable or (in the case of this expansion) maybe there are all of these.

Yes it is lame but if you have lost the loyalty and trust of your customers it's the sort of thing you have to do to get their money.

Oh, I know Blizzard will be adding expansions that I'll end up buying. But let's look at a few things. This is basic games only. Doesn't include JTL.

Age of game:
SWG: 2 years+
WoW: < 1 year

Dungeons added since launch
SWG: Death Watch, Geo-Caves, Warrens(?)

WoW: Diremaul, also added 2 out-door raid-level bosses

PvP rankings
SWG: Its a number. Bragging rights, nothing more

WoW: Honor system encourages people to go after people of the same level. Weekly statistics used to determine rank which will make certain items (which are very good, but there is still better loot items in the high-end dungeons) which you have to keep your rank up to be able to wear.

Also related to that: Every three hours there is a free-for-all event at the arena for a chest of treasure.

Battlefields:
SWG: 2 years and running, still no battlefields. The GCW system is a joke as stormtroopers still do cantina crackdowns on Rebel held cities and certain NPCs (the planetary dude in Mos Eisley and the cantina STs) remain no matter who controls the city. Battlefields aren't even a thought to SWG Devs anymore.

WoW: Currently under development. Blizzard hasn't officially announced a release date for the battlefield patch. Statements by blue (Blizzard employees) on the WoW forums have suggested it should be out before the end of the year.

Customer Service
WoW: People have been all over Blizzard due to server stability problems. Blizzard has been giving free days of subscriptions due to it left and right.

File a ticket about a bug or an issue and get DIRECT interaction with a Gamemaster (CSR) within 24 hours. Most of the time, I've had to wait less than one.

SWG: Server goes down for 24 hours for CU and SOE gives us nothing.

Need I even comment on the CSRs themselves?

According to New York Times, WoW has over a million subscriptions... Blizzard is making $15 million a month on WoW. When the expansions hit, people will buy them because Blizzard has treated them well and the fans will remain with them.

EQII is well under a million (700K or so, IIRC). EQII introduced the idea of paying for 'adventure' packs. EQII should be blowing WoW's doors off due to its name (EQ was the best selling MMO until WoW hit) and the fact that this is Blizzard's first MMO which means they are likely to have growing pains that SOE should be over. SWG's subscription level according to New York Times is under 500K.

There are ONLY two reasons why SWG sells:
1) It's Star Wars. You can sell a $2 steak as the official steak of Star Wars and people would buy it for $20 and love it.
2) SWG has the BEST roleplaying community around. This is the reason I came back.

Am I saying WoW is the better game? Nope. Am I saying Blizzard is the better company? Yes.

Blizzard will put out expansions and due to the fact that they have taken CARE of me and my fellow customers, I will pre-order the expansion with no questions asked. SOE needs to show me something before I give them more money for Rage. I'd continue with how Rage is a step back from what makes SWG great, but I've hi-jacked this thread enough.

To answer the original question: No you can't do the new missions. I was doing the Clone Relics Quest and someone could not get the NPC to talk to them because they did not have ROTW.

ROTW is worth the money so why not get it.

thank you all for answering my questions... this has been a very enjoyable thread to read... I really love sci-fi and most of all, starwars. And this is the reason I bought the game... never was a medieval lover. But you're right., maybe I paid a lot of money till today because it had the name starwars. And becausethis game hasthe name starwars, I was blinded to the fact that yeah, maybe I gave much money to a company that didn't gave me much new contents (unless you pay extra for it - your base tri-monthly fee isn't enough)and good service. That company is SOE and is sitting on his Starwars rights knowing fools like mewill pay whatever they ask because it is starwars.

I won't be there to check on that because I'm leaving soon... But I hope people with only base game and JTL will get new content. This is what they paid for and this what they are entitled to. I happy for those who you have "rage". They are entitled to new content. They have paid extra for it. But those who don't have "rage" should also get new content because they still pay monthly for the game. And not just a syren's call chapter once a month. I would be inclined to think our base monthly fee is worth more than that.

You missed the nightsister cave, the Garryn Raider, the pirate bunker, nyax bunker etc pp (no, they weren't in at launch, they came with publish I ) and the corellian corvette.

*and* content doesn't always come in form of dungeons, the three parts of the cries of alderaaan arc are added content just as player cities are, Kimo town and the force sensitive quests and the multiple quests added when the first secrets of the siren went live etc. pp.

Anyone wonder why WoW is beating the SNOT out of EQ2? According to New York Times, WoW has well over 1 million subscriptions. EQ2 is under 1 million and SWG is under 500K now.

At latest count from the website that keeps track of how many subscibers each big MMPORG has SWG is under 250k now and still falling. The expansion is nice and was well done. Was it worth an extra $25 for what I have gotten out of it? So far yes. Has SOE ever really listend to us? Not really why start now.

Player Cities, mounts, vehicles. One week of double xp for CU downtime, /respec to learn to cope with the new system. Wookiee armor. Plenty of new armors and weapons in CU. The list of content added for free goes on.

Expansions aren't just for adding content for a price, they're also to get the game back on the shelves and getting new subscribers.
