Thread: Laptop Resolution (Widescreen, Anyone?)
I'm running SWG on a DELL Inspiron 8600 at 1600x1200 - which is my 15.1" widescreen native resolution. My laptop has a 1.5 GHz Centrino CPU, 128MB NVidia FX5950 GPU and I have 1 GB PC2700 DDRRAM.
On this laptop, SWG runs so smooth, that I hardly play it on my desktop PC which has much more power...
Thanks for the detailed info, Com. This isexactly what I was looking for whenI started this thread.
If SWG actually gives you the option of 1440x900, but it doesn't work right, then I bet that Gnomepuner/Censored's cfg editing won't work.
Ifrin (from WGF) suggested that Nvidia cards mayoffer more resolution optionsthan Radeon. But Com is using an Nvidia 5200, and can't get the resolution he wants.
Com, when was the last time you updated your drivers?
Well the laptop came with the 44.22 Go drivers preinstalled, but I have tried a couple other versions. Installing graphics drivers for a laptop is a somewhat more involved process than with a desktop since they require using modified inf files that are downloaded from a 3rd party site, but even when using NVidia's latest driver set the problem still exists.

I checked out some 1440x900 laptop screens today. I couldn't try SWG on these machines. But the Windows desktop and apps looked like ass (read: blurry)at any resolution other than native.
Maybe the special Radeon "Omega"driverswill work.

I cross-posted my original post in the Tech Support forum (http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Techsupport&message.id=146536), and got this response from Gnomepunter:
I remember them talking about doing stuff like this in beta. Ther eis a way to override the dropdown in the launchpad options if it doesn't support the resolution you want to use.
You will need to create a user.cfg file in the SWG directory using notepad or something. In there, put the below, leaving out hte clip here parts.
----------------clip here-----------------
[ClientGraphics]
screenWidth=1280
screenHeight=1024
[Direct3d9]
fullscreenRefreshRate=75
------------clip here----------------------
Replace the resolution numbers and refresh rate numbers with what you want. Make sure your monitor can handle whatever refresh rate you use.
Disclaimer: Do this at your own risk. A lot of people have used this method with no problems. You just have to make sure you put in the proper numbers here. If you mess up, don't come to me
