Thread: Defenses and stats only work if your holding a weapon??
"Dodge" food (Air Cake, Pikatta Pie andFizz pudding)is a completely separate issue. Despite the confusing description, these are not a buff to the Dodge skill. It affects the chance of an attack missing you completely, although I'm not sure if it's a separate check, or an increase to the relevent Ranged/Melee defense skill. The Dodge skill has a chance to trigger only after an enemy gets in a "hit".

BTW - I tried eating dodge food, and I never once saw a "you successfully dodged an attack" in my combat log. There were lots of blocks tho...
I think Staveeno covered most of it, but to add one more thing:
PIkatta Pie never adds to the chance of getting "successfully dodged an attack" in your combat spam. If you don't have that skill or don't have a pistol or 1-handed melee equipped, you'll never "dodge an attack". That's only from the Pistoleer/Fencer dodge skill. However, those foods should increase the number of "swings/shoots at you but misses" messages for a given number of attacks.
So without food, if you get attacked 200 times they miss 100, have 50 attacks blocked, and hit for normal damage 50 times.
With food, if you get attacked 200 times they miss 150, have 25 blocked, at hit for normal damage 25 times.
The above numbers are pulled completely out of thin air, and would depend on your normal Ranged/melee Defense and block skill. The leading theory is that the "dodge" foods (there really has to be another name to give those...) boost your defense relative to your normal ranged or melee defense. So players with high natural defense (Jedi, especially) appear to get a greater relative benefit.
