Well as some said above i think its pushed to slow down the XP. I honestly dont think this is the last the coming days. Us in europe suffer greatly not able to play during daytime, i feel the try hamper the advancement on Chimaera

If you look they reserve 4 hours per day as downtime. With that being said even with this extension they are still within their window

the servers went down at 1 am my time its now 5:31 am...
