It appears Storm Troopers are guilty of racial profiling. My personal hypothesis (note that is conjecture) is that SOE intended to implement a racial penalty for scans similar to the penalties found in purchasing faction related rewards on the Imperial side. However, it is only active for a single race, and was never mentioned in the patch notes. Perhaps this was never completed, or perhaps the idea was scrapped and removed from the code, but ended up being left in accidentally for one race only. Perhaps its just a strange bug related to some other game mechanic. Or perhaps, Storm Troopers just really don't trust Bothans. I'd love to hear from the Devs on this.

Maybe it's because Bothans so often happen to be spies, not in SWG, but in the SW Universe in general. A little bit of hidden continuity perhaps?

Interesting data. Hmmm...

As a Twi'lek Smuggler, I get scanned fairly often. Whenever I walk into Mos Entha, Mos Espa, Kor Vella or Kadaraa I always get scanned atleast once. But I never get caught...

You forgot to add "Many bothans died to bring us this information."

Ahem...

You should have added.. "Many (slight pause) Bothans Died... (long pause) to bring us this information..." (Using Best Mon Mothma voice)

Perhaps therein lies your answer. Bothans are known to run a significant spie network in the movies and expanded universe. Perhaps that is a story aspect that wasn't or has yet to be fully exploited in SWG...

Just a thought.

*Edited to adjust the Mon Mothma quote...*

Any info on % of successful scans? Maybe that's where Smugglars get their bonus.

As Rem pointed out, we took pains to actually avoid being caught, and hence were not carrying any spice or sliced weaponry. The purpose here was to spare our participants the hassle of dealing with getting caught, relatively minor as though it may be, as well as to make the process go as smoothly as possible all together. Therefore, no, we did not collect data on percentages of successful scans, although, again as Rem had stated, it may provide the basis for a future study.

However, to your second bit there about the Smuggler bonus, I believe that this is actually a known fact that smugglers do not have any higher a chance of not getting scanned period - the data is indicative ofthis as well - but that their bonus comes into play as a high chance of not actually getting caught.

very nice job!!

well, I for one am almost 100% postitive that smugglers get a bonus to not being caugth.. we get scannen just as often (as this nubmers show), but get caugth alot less (in my [covert reb] master smuggler days: never. not even once when I carried 20 sliced weapons on me.. and of course my set of armor.

Well, bothans are known as rebelion spies..

You know...I was wondering about that. I'm a bothan and every time I go to a crackdown city I get scanned. Every single time! Sometimes it's because I walk near the storm troopers and other times they come chasing after me and appear right next to me.

This has happened numerous times and many of the times I had no contraband.

Interesting. Have you tried other cities to see if the results are simular? Reason I asked was in Kaddaara I get scaneed once a day. In Kor vella or Espa about 50% of the time. Be interesting to know if other cities show the same results.

Strange that they would target Bothans more than Wookiees. I thought Wookiees and Transdoshans had the worst imperial faction penalty, indicating the level of hatred the Empire has for those species. SoI would haveexpected that those species wouldbe targetted for scans more often than other species.

LOL, very cool idea for a study.

I play a Bothan, and back when everyone was complaining about not being scanned very often (and thus, the crackdown had no teeth) it seemed tome like I was scanned every time I went into town. Glad to see some data to back up my general feeling of discrimination.
