What did you think of these changes?
I saw all of the original movies when they came out in theatres. I love the changes, because I think they have all improved on the original vision of the movies. Watching them all over again has been a marvelous experience.
I remember walking out of the theater, after watching "Empire Strikes Back," and just before getting to the car, I just stopped dead in my tracks, and shouted "Oh, no!!! Three more years!!!" because I suddenly realized it would be another three years before the thirdmovie came out, and I had just had the jarring experience of finding out that Darth Vader was Luke's father! I still remember how stunned I was, how stunned we all were by that. It was like being hit with a club.
We didn't have VCR's or DVD's back then, we had to actually go back to the movie theater to see a movie again and again and again. And we were happy to do it, because we were making George Lucas rich, and we knew he would reward us by continuing to make the movies that we wanted.
Mr. Lucas, thank you, thank you, thank you. /deepbow;

lol
4. This is a war, many of the speeder bikes are being operated by Imps or rebels, they should be armed.
Did you buy it form the Reble or Imp armor or even a Blackmarket Weopons Dealer? NO you Bought it from a CAR DEALER just like the Hummers.
9. Most great people have been made outside of war, few by acts in war. War is just something one does because attacked, and those that do the attacking are all most never great.

Need I go on they all Attacked First.
10. Luke was not in Epsode 2, he was not even born at that point.

Can I move there and carry a visible sidearm?

I, too, saw them in the theatres and waited breathlessly for the next one to show up. I also remember when Joseph Cambell was talking about the wonderful movie he just saw and how he was starting to talk to the writer/director and it was -after- the first movie (in recent Lucas interviews he has claimed he was talking with Campbell about the mythology aspects while he was writing the first one). I remember when Lucas talked about 3 trilogies, after the first one was a blockbuster. I remember the first movie not being called "A New Hope" until it was re-released shortly before the 2nd one came out. I remember waiting in lines for the 2nd and 3rd (I didn't see the first one until the end of it's 1st summer due to family stuff), not overnight, but for hours. I remember...
The DvDs... I got the the 1st weekend. Some of the changes aren't bad, some.. well..
The reason I think the first movie should -also- be released on DvD is for it's film historical value. One of the reasons it was so remarkable was the envelope it was pushing for -that time- with it's effects. Those effects are -still- pretty darn good by today's standard but now they've been mostly covered over and/or cheapened by the added CGI which is pretty standard fare and not revolutionary. It is the geek in my, the technophile, that wants to see the original as the original along with the modified. The modified has its place, it is flashy and spiffy and there are some things "cleaned up", but the original is a bit of history.
The most jarring thing about the changed movies, the thing that left me saying "Hey what happened!" was the Ewok celebration at the end of the 3rd. They completely took out the Jub-jub song
Adding in the other cities celebrating... well.. I guess that's kinda spiffy but.. umm.. does this mean difinitively that the rebels won and now will be installing their own government? The Empire did have supporters. Was the rebel support sooooo immense that people would be celebrating on planatary scale and especially on Corosont (misspelled horribly, sorry)? It wasn't like the liberation of Paris, for example, where the Allied troops drove out a conquering foe. The Empire was the "rightful" government, established by the Republic giving full power to Senator Palapatine. The rebellion was a revolutionary force overthrowing the current government.

You all have it ALL WRONG.
1.Main reason not to see Dvd versions is simply because they changed the ghost in Return of the Jedi.(Return of the king was first btw)
2.Also in A new Hope they had to use comps to make Han cheaply dodge Greedo's shot in the cantina.
3.Also with the jawas in a new hope.....the r5 that luke's uncle was about to buy that explodes?remember that?yeah.anyway.that is bugg because when they choose r2 next stand next to r2 is none other than that r5 unit if u look though the cracks from r2's main body and his legs.
