Thread: What do you guys think about merging galaxies?

I dont think this is a simple as most people think
for example, what happens if 2 people on different servers have a house in the same place? like if they merge Tempest and Flurry and there is a house on Tatooine at 1234,4321 on both servers then which house stays and which has to move? think how many times this situation would occur, especially with the houses around Coronet.
And then comes name problems, names are server specific and there has to be some repetition of the more popular names across several servers

I think increased server population would be good but this method seems to bring too many problems

I like the idea but would also like to see the option to transfer characters (with credits and inventory) free of charge to one of several consolidated server groups.

I can see the need for a server merger in the futures. As server populations dwindle down, more and more people will quit because their server has become a ghost town which means there is nothing for them to do. What I would suggest in a server merger is an automatic deeding of the houses/structures on all the servers that are being merged but keep the items that are inside of the structre in the actual deed. So when you deploy your house, all the items are still in it. These deeds could be kept in a temporary seperate inventory.

but then again this forces the new people to the server to have to relocate to a crappy spot and lose business.

Another solution would be to deed every structure in the game except the harvesters that are already on the server that isn't being removed. Again, all the items that were in the structure would stay in the deed.

I know the complications with this, but I can see this as being very very good aswell. People who have since left the game still have their structure laying around, taking up precious space aswell as littering the land with unused buildings. These unused houses waste server resources and makes the game just look downright ugly. Really, who enjoys driving through the desert and dodging houses every 20 meters.

At this same time you could make a modification to the bank to allow you to get extra storage in the bank (equal to a small house) at the cost of a lot, allow all 10 lots used if they want. This would remove the empty cities, allow you to keep all your belongings organized and it would also remove the ugly as sin storage houses that are strewn absolutely everywhere on the planets.

The other downside to this is people who have prime property now may not have it later, but with the storage houses hopefully gone, it should open up a lot more room for prime business spots. Another thing is, you could maybe only allow crafter professions/merchants to put down structures with in a certain distance of the prime cities.

One of the easiest ways to increase the population of servers would be to lock out the users choice to create on any server they choose, and automaticly join one of the lowest populated servers apon character creation.

There would be an option to also join a sertain server, but they would have to have someone from that server give them a code outside the game to input sometime before your character joins a server. (Simular to how Final Fantacy XI does it)

This method wouldnt be that hard to impliment and it wouldnt cause a ton of problems like how a server merge might.

Yea! Forcing people to play on deserted servers! Awesome idea!

Its not just Housing and Names, its the whole DB of Items crafted or looted, and more importantly resources. Which is why when you do a character transfer, only yourself and skills get carried over.Yourstandard Power Hammers could be way overpowered in my galaxy, but our T21 might be night and day better than yours.

Also the resource DB would have to twice as large as everybody elses cause if it happens it has to track 2 different servers to find the one resource.

Sounds good in theory, but would be tough to pull off.

I don't think a server merger per se, is the way to go, but something should be done eventually. What I'd like to see is that everyone gets their entire inventory in one deed, including houses. Then they open a new server for everyone to go to. That way there's no problem with a house being in the same spot on both galaxies. Everyone would log on to this new server and run to place a house, city, etc. wherever they like. So instead of a "server merger", it would be more like a "server remake." Dunno if this is even feasible, but it would alleviate most of the problems that a merger would create.

People facing this issue should be allowed one free character transfer.

Do you not know what a char transfer does? It deletes every quest you've ever completed, every item you've ever had, all your money... EVERYTHING is deleted with a character transfer except proffesions. If I had to do this to one of my characters I would swiftly quit this game. I dont know a SINGLE person that would be willing to do this to one of their characters just because SOE told them to do it. I personally would have already done a character transfer to another account but there was no way I was going to lose everything ive worked towards.

well I came back to this game a couple of weeks ago. Logged back into my character on Sunrunner and saw that all my friends were gone, and decided to just bite the bullet and start a new character on Intrepid. Its been a lot of fun, and I do not mind starting over again.

So to everyone who is on a low population server who wants to move, quit the game for 9 months, come back to the game and start a new character on a more populated server.

It would be cool if they could merge servers though, but then again SOE is now justing adding the ability to take the badges with you on a paid transfer, I would say personally I do not trust them enough to think that they would not screw up my character somehow.

i think they should wipe the entire universe and start over w/everyone on one giant server. the server will be called hindsight. everyone starts over w/nothing.
