Aye, 'tis meant as humor with a grain of truth thrown in for spice, and I have nothing against guilds at all - I joined one myself - because, as I said, that's where the hook-ups are! Nothing like starting the game with people handing you gear for free that would either take a month of playing or 100K in credits to aquire solo.
And I have nothing against vet players, either, because they're the ones who make those spiffy guilds possible. I'm just irked because my character speaks about a dozen in-game languages, but I, the player, am not fluent in "L33T" (read: I do leave the house). I can deal with a little bit of "creative vocabulary contraction" because in combat you don't have time to type out long messages, but I think of it as simple good roleplaying to try to form complete sentances when I'm communicating with other players in-game. After all, this is Star Wars, not Cyberpunk.
JTLS is always worth the investment even if you have no intentions of ever becoming an ace fighter pilot, because you no longer have to pay for shuttles and even a sortie against T1 ships can easily net you enough resale salvage to make you a quick 10K+ when you need it, usually in under 30 minutes. When you're trying to be an Artisian and don't have the time or patience to survey or build a dozen little personal harvestors, being able to just by up rescources by the thousands on the public market with ship loot revenues can make climbing that ladder MUCH easier.
Another thing I found is that making friends with the nearet doctor, entertainer, and even image designer can be a great help - player like it when they have regular customers, just like in real life. Even if you're not shelling out 10K a pop for uber buffs, the local medic will usually start to remember your name and a long series of tips, even small ones, can get you some frequent flyer kickbacks after a while.
One thing I am working towards, and would like to see more of, is for Master level crafters to broaden their market demographic to include newbies. It seems that all of them have plenty of gear for sale at their vendors for those who are Master Riflemen, Commandos, or Ace Pilots using T5 gear, but cranking out a few lower certification items of maximum quality for new people would be a big seller.
Case in point: Just yesterday I was bored and threw out a bunch of personal harvester on the open market for dirt cheap. Little 4/hr mineral extractors and 9/hr wind generators. Now these don't compare to actual Architech created megaharvesters, but they were top-of-the-line in their class and they all sold within an hour. I even threw up a measly Survival Knife onto the market after boosting it's stats to the limit and that, too, sold in under an hour. Why? Because a sliced & boosted T21 rifle is indeed the dream of many a Rifleman, but the Novice Marksman can't use it - they need T20s and the like, instead. Somewhere out there a Novice Brawler is using my measly Survival Knife and giving me CXP for it ... and I'm not even a proper Weaponsmith.
So my tip/request from all the Master crafters out there - don't forget the little guy/gal! You make a CDEF Rifle with twice the damage of the standard issue and I guarantee it will be bought by the next new player on the server, combat oriented or not. Also remember that only the most dedicated comabt player will gain all the levels needed to use every weapon type. Even a Master Rifleman may only be certified for a CDEF pistol, and will need the best one he/she can find for backup for when the critters get in their face.
Something to consider, yes? Keep your product range broad as possible and you'll get more sales. Plus that low-level stuff can be sold for 6000 and under, which is good because everyone knows where the public market is, but not everyone can find your vendor that easily (and there are often nasty animals just outside of it that newbies can't get past, either).

Hiro, which server are you on?
The idea of marketting to new players isn't really a new one...
On busy servers there is always someone spamming about a vendor with goods for new players, or loading the bazaar up with cheap goods.

I'm on Gorath, and yes there are some low level goods on the market but rarely do I find really good ones. Even if your aiming for something else entirely (like Droid Engineer), the simple fact that you'll need a lot of basic Artisan skills just to get into that class means that any Novice Elite Profession Artisan can usually crank out some impressive low grade weapons & gear for the new players.
Yes, vendors often have them but as I said, most newbies don't know that and head straight for the city market (which is also free from Razorcats and the like). So when I get bored or have a small batch of rescources that can't be used to make something big & shiny, I might little stuff but at very high quality and sell it off - and it sells FAST! I had one item yesterday get bought less than five minutes after I put it up there. And the extra User XP from it doesn't hurt, either.
I do have a question, though, and if anyone can help me it would be appreciated: Sometimes I see items being sold in containers carrying multiples of said item (for instance, containers of 10+ Stimpacks). How do I aquire/build/use the containers? Because I, too, make the occational Stimpack but I know that people don't like to buy them in individual units. If I could box them up in groups of ten or more it would probably sell, though. How do I this?
Thanks!

Why are y'all givin' this guy a hard time? He wrote a very funny satire of a guide. The thing isa lot of what he says is TRUE!!! The original manuel that sells with the game is so out of date it barely applies to ANYTHING. Now they are even changing the GUI. I wonder if they are going to redo the manuel for that. Probably right before the Smuggler Re-vamp.
Learn to laugh a little.

It's a horrible "guide" filled with broad based assumptions about classes he know's little about.
There are real entertainers out there Hiro, take the time to meet some, and don't assume because they aren't talking to you, they are AFK. If your ingame manner is abrasive as this "guide" it's no surprise.
PS- If you made high quality goods and put them on the bazaar and they sold very quickly, why are you surprised to not see them there the majority of the time? Even high level Merchants can still only put 25 items up at a time, and I don't know anyone mind numb enough to enjoy going back to the bazaar every couple hours to restock.
PPS crates are made with factories, if you haven't figured that out from the forums or the ingame help, then you REALLY shouldn't be trying to guide anyone.
