Thread: Multiple Accounts

your post is a little unclear. Your saying that you moved but lost the disks. Regardless of whether you moved or not, you should still be able to play SWG. All account information is saved on the SWG servers. If you are just trying to run multiple accounts for the first time, then your problem is easily remedied. For Starters you are not required to buy 2 sets of disks, that is circumstancial, the reason you need 2 sets of disks is because you can't simply buy another account key number, you have to buy another SWG copy. If you have the key just start up your SWG and click on account before entering the info for your other account. Then click on new and enter the new key. I hope this helps.

if you want to run multiple instances you must go all the way into the game and use "alt+tab" to get out of the game, then start the next game.

maybe I should clarify that, you must start 1 game...

log in....

and at bare minimum get to the character select screen (the one where you get to see the rendering of your character/ character create sceen)...

then use "alt+tab" to get out of the game...

then you should be allowed to start another account....

If this doesn't work, your file with the Allow multi-instances is not correct or you need to go all the way to the point where your first account is physically in the game

Hope that is more clear

You dont need key to install the game.

Only once when you have activated your subscription.

Just install it from the disks you have. And log in as normal.

Helpful recap of a common question. Thanks.

Thanks guys. I'll try this and post my results.

Here's what my user.cfg file says:

[SWG Client]
allowMultipleInstances=true

If this ain't right, please give me the correct file verbage.

Before I get flamed, I'm posting this in the jedi forums because you are the most knowledgeable profession base in the game (go away bounty hunters).

In order to run multiple accounts, you have to have A) Two sets of game disks B) Pay for multiple accounts. Okay, I've done this. I have also set up the correct "allowMultipleInstances=true" file and made it read-only. My problem is this: I recently moved and lost one set of the disks. I have the case with the code on the back, but the disks are gone (probably in the possession of the Mayflower truck driver ).

So, I figure I could just install Galaxies from the same disk to two separate locations on my computer. This doesn't work. The only prompt I get is asking to modify files or remove them.

Will I have to purchase another set of disks in order to install the second Galaxies file? Am I totally missing a more clear, obvious solution to this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

You dont need the game installed twice on your machine, just sign into your game with your 2nd username and password, it'll ask you for the 2nd cd key

Well, I'm trying everything listed above and it still won't let me do it. I either get a message saying "this application is already running" or an error message from SWGClient. I guess I'll try a total reinstall and see if that helps. The user.cfd file is correct, everything looks to be in order, just not working.

Blah!

1. Are they allowed?

2. Do you have to buy a second copy of the game to get one?

3. If the answer to 2 was "no", what do you have to do to get one?

1) Yep, they sure are... no problems with them.
2) You do need to get another copy of the game, as you can only have 1 character per server on each cd-key... So suprisingly you need 2 cd-keys to get 2 characters

Only downside to this is that you're having to pay twice the costs for the subscription than you normally would so with just the one... Theres also the Force Sensitive option but that would take quite a while to achieve

Not only are they allowed but IMHO the game absolutly sucks with just one character per server per account. The day I paid for my second account the game became very enjoyable! Am I paying twice as much? Sure, but it is so worth it. When I can afford to upgrade my memory it's going to be a blast to be able to play both at the samne time.

Best part is, you can buff yourself. Here are two of my characters, both on Ahazi. My main is Ethor, Master Bounty Hunter (I leave the VIP, I mean Jedi alone) with pistoleer skills and light medic, he has been in the villiage and unlocked 3 branches now. My second is a MAster Doctor, and very soon after 60k more combat XP, TKM with light scout skills. My second character accidently became FS, so I took some FS melee skills, but won't go Jedi with this one. My main will go Jedi in about 9 weeks.

You will love it, it's worth it for me. Also, alot easier to really make the credits with two characters.
