Still get decay occasionally even when insured, and death was in pvp. People seem to think the triple incap thing does it, but in my experience it just happens randomly. Maybe one out of 50 pvp deaths youmay get decay, despite being insured. In my experience, if you clone right away, without lingering around after death, it reduces the chances of this happening.

If you are insured, and you are deathblown by a member of the opposite faction (NPC or PC): No Decay (although it does bug sometimes, this is very rare)

If you are insured, and you're deathblown by a creature or an NPC not of the opposing faction: 1% decay

If you are not insured, and you're deathblown by ANYTHING: 5% decay.

Hope this helps

In PvP versus a ranged combat guy - aren't they always going to win just by keeping moving? Only how as a TK would i keep close to them if they keep running and changing direction?

thanks

Well, even though the are ranged, they are limited to 64m and even though TK is melee, we can reach out 20m(over 60 feet)with a lunge. When you factor in lag, it isn't that much of an issue. But, if for some reason you just can't get get them in range, run the opposite way. People will think that you are scarred because maybe a buff ran out or something and come after you. Once they start chase you, double back and by the time lag kicks in, you'll be right on top of him.

Basically against a ranged opponent it becomes more tactical than just running up to the opponent and spamming commands. The best ways are to lure them to you through the use of terrain or buildings, though burst-run can do the trick nicely as well.

This goes beyond Newb PvP, but here is something to consider before charging around Coronet overt.

Yep, use the above stuff to catch them... have a buddy practice with you... just play cat and mouse and learn how to do it in a controlled situation via duel.
But-
You're biggest problem is: after catching them, what are you going to do with the enemy?

You're probably not going to out-damage a BH/Pistoleer or a Rifleman; especially to the all so critical mind pool with Pure TKM. And lets face it, do we see any other breeds of ranged professions often? Aside from a BH/Carbineer ocasionally, nope. And most of them will have some stacked defenses so it will be hard to knock them down as well. And they'll all have 80-90% comp armor on, and be shooting Stun at your head. Have good support skills to back up you're TKM abilities. Be prepared, get a good brain bucket, entertainer buffs, booze, synthsteak, canape, etc.

This is where it gets really tricky!
Am I saying it's not possible? No not at all!
You just have to know that you can win, and you have to know how to do it.
As they (the masters up there ^ ) said, you first have to catch them.

Once you do, 3 general things could happen.
1) They realize you caught them and try to run.
2) They dont care you caught them and tank.
3) They call their (Jedi) Gank Squad in on your position.

So, if they try to run, try to keep them from runing, Dizzy, Knockdown, Lunge.
If you get them on their back go to work. If you don't, you need to catch them again. Don't blindly chase your prey, they'll kite, or run you stright into some buddies. If it looks bad, and/ or the opponent is really runing away, you can always let him go. If hes playing DoT and run, just leave and come back prepared to deal with it. Escape, let him think he chased you off or that he got away from you. Pounce later on when things are looking better. Choose your battles.

If they try and tank it out, be sure to limit their damage as much as possible. Intimidate is a must. Stun state helps too, but is harder to get on them stackers. Be sure you're running a center of being macro. Blind keeps them from hitting you. Dizzy can keep them with their face on the floor... not hitting you. It's all about states. You just have to survive longer than your opponent.
DoTs are king in PvP till (if) they fix the game. If you can apply one do it, if they apply one (and you're not a doctor) you might need an exit strategy, as now you have to win faster than the DoT can kill you. If you're alone, and can't win against an uber-loot DoT weapon, get out of there.
Be careful when pulling your speederbike, but you can try and retreat that way. Parwan Nutricake can let you burstrun for awahile... provided you have room for food in the tummy. Run your opponent through areas that they might hesitate to go through. Hangouts for overts, through turret fields, etc. Sometimes you'll just get killed though. Choose your battles, or just have fun being killed. If they're an uber-looter, which are no fun to play with, stop playing with them.

In the event of being pounced on by a Jedi Gank Squad, understand that half of them are EBAY jedi's played by fat balding men (or bearded ladies) who have very little self esteem, and thus have a need to win at something. Congradulate them on killing you, and walk away. Stop playing with them. If you're not there to kill and no fun to kill they'll go away. [Or just be sure and have an even BIGGER Jedi Gank Squad of your own.] :/

If you have a PvP group, use the group... don't assume you're uber and you can take that guy by yourself. Keep the group in pre-designated squads if you must split up. Have a Doc ready to play healer. Teamwork and a good leader can win against superior numbers, and loot-whores, and fat bald women who don't use teamwork. Usually dont use it because they're better than everyone else.

LMAO I just can't resist sometimes, sorry.
PvP is usually not a fun place for newbs with the current state of the game, you're going to have to grow up fast.
Good Luck... and you'd better be a rebel!

I had this same problem and it really pissed me off trying to hide around cornors and get in a fast lunge. I picked up combat medic to supplement my mtk. It works great. A lot of times a kiter will get freaked out or mad and try and charge me...its usually all over at that point.

TKA in PvP really shines when you group with others. Despite all the nerf calls you see in places *cough* TKA is neither the best tank (though we're good) and our damage isn't that great. However, a TKA does two things and does them very well: applying states and keeping someone on the ground. We're probably better at doing that to a single opponent than any other profession.

In a large-scale PvP fight, what I always do is try to figure out who the most dangerous person on the other side is (usually a doc, or a CM, or a Jedi). Then I team up with someone like a swordsman, rifleman, or a pikeman with a good DOT weapon and head over to assassinate the guy. I'll warcry him first, then intimidate, then get in close and try to KD/Dizzy. If I can get him down I apply stun and blind states while my damage-dealing friend(s) pound him. I'll also contribute with unarmed head hits. If the person gets up he probably won't be that effective thanks to the states I put on him.
