Try putting in a corrupt data disk and see what happens.

Just completed a datapad. You'll need the following:
1. Datapad housing
2. Datapad backlight
3. Datapad connectors
4. Datapad battery
5. Broken datapad
I still have to figure out what this little puppy is used for though.
I tried putting some of the COA fragement disks in there and that was a no go. My next step is to try to get a completed set of one of the COA disks and slap that in there. There has to be a use for those stupid things, there just has to be a use, I mean why are the things still dropping? (Ok, I'm done deluding myself, I know there's no real use for them anymore, someone's just been too lazy to delete the things from the loot table.) I'll keep everyone posted on whether or not I figure out what to do with this thing.
Update #2014.b
I tried adding partial COA disks to the datapad and that didn't work. I picked up a completed COA set off the bazaar and tried throwing that in the datapad. That didn't work either. I've tried pulling things off my regular datapad (schematics, droids, pets, vehicles, faction pets) and those can't be placed in the new datapad. I have not yet upgraded to JTL, but my understanding is that there are disks that can be programmed for droid commands and I haven't tried using those in it but may get a SW to make me up one to see if I can toss it in this datapad.
Maybe this is something for loot pass #2 or higher. If it is, the reward had better be worth all the hassle. I am starting to envision that we'll need to loot 5 disks to put in the datapad to have some sort of other loot. If that's the case, sheesh! Talk about a pain in the a$$, having to loot stuff to make the thing so that you can later loot all the other stuff to put that stuff into the first thing you constructed just to put it all together.

Droid Engineers make those discs, than pilots use their skills they get from skill boxes to program the discs. check the local bazaar for Unprogrammed Droid Command Chips if you want to test out the JTL discs.

Thank you for the wonderful loot! Being that im an Imperial and cant loot half of this new stuff yippee !!! I could go kill tuskens but there always camped and those oddball npcs but now thanks to this thread they will be camped to! WHOO HOOO ooo wait since im Imp I could BUY this loot....oh no you nerfed the solo misison payand there willl be no way in Hades that im gonna grind out missions for hours on end to be able to buy a freakin couch because some a$$hat is gonna charge 1 million credits for it because its a "rare single use schem". Thank you for the new "content" and for further sending the already horrible economy down ye olde crapper some more.

Signed one very irritated Imperial
granted some of the schemas are rarer than others. my understanding is that the one the imps have access too is probably the rarest. If you're not being sarcastic about the blue couch schema, it's not at all that rare. I'vebeen lucky enough to get6 or 7 so farwithout camping.....just hit the poi's as i travel and if they're there i go kill...if not i go move on to whatever it is i wanted to do.
It's just takes patience, time, cooperative work from ppl, and luck. If you have to have it now, then yes you will pay a premium now for it since it's new (example = junk loot kit items). Put it this way...even though it's a grind to try to get them, at least it's a lot easier than killing NS elders and no worse than killing an elder and getting a disk fragment.

I ran across an NPC today with the title Gadget Specialist. I've never seen one of those before, but she says she is too busy for me. It sounds like this person might be involved with the new loot somehow. A lot of the little broken gadgets we get are on display around her. Anyone know anything about this or am I way off base?

The Gadget specialist is for crafters doing phase 4 of the village.

I've looted a couple discs in space and on the ground, something like a private message that might be part of a story line...wonder if these things have anything to do with the broken/fixed datapad?

Today's patch notes reads:
- Fixed an issue where players were able to make manufacturing schematics for any of the items given out in loot phase 1.
My personal opinion: Although I did not like that you could make 1000 items off the looted schematics, I think only being able to make just one item is way too low. It should at least have 10 or 20 item limit, without the ability to make a factory schematic. These new schematics should help the crafter more than the person who loots the items. The crafters cant make a significant mark up on it if the person who looted it charges allot for the schematic.
Anyone have comments on this also?
I agree. The prices for these items will not sky-rocket. Not because they talk a lot of resources, or they're all that hard to come by, but simply because crafters will not be able to make these in bulk any longer. These items should be fairly cheap and easy-to-come-by items that are only here to add some new things to the game and give crafters some extra credits. I don't feel these items should be the "uber rare" items the Devs are trying to make them. Hell, they're just furniture... they serve no other purpse then that.
If they no longer allow draft schematics, then the Devs really need to increase the drop rate for these item schematics. Let them drop more often. I mean, after 100 Stormtroopers and who knows how many other Imperial NPCs I killed... the best thing I got was a Scout Pistol.
Um, yes they will. I've seen vendors with the couches for 25k plus.
This is a bad nerf, since the only way Imps can get it is either from a generous rebel, people selling them on vendors, or an Imperial that managed to buy the schematic off someone who either didn't know what it was, or wasn't greedy, and had them made.
The fact that this stuff only drops from Imp NPCs is sadNo, actually, that's not sad, because addtitional content is always, good. No, what's actually sad is that there's nothing that Imps can loot by killing rebels.
