Thread: Waypoints
you need to pull up your planetary map to turn waypoints on and off. this is not the Ctrl M map, but the map that is accessed by the first button on your bottom toolbar. (it looks like a drop of water and a bowl.)
cities have blue flags over them and right clicking on the flag will bring up a menu which lets you select "Activate Waypoint". tip: city waypoints alwaysseem to beset to appear in front of or near the starport, if there is one in that city. after you have died 3 times, you can also check your planetary map for the location of your corpse and set a waypoint to it (same procedure).
mission waypoints set themselves when you accept a mission, but if you log off or go LD before completing the mission, the waypoint will be off when you reenter the game. use the planetary map to turn them on. they will be orange flags on the map.
there are actually quite a few things you can waypoint, so just check out the menu and play with all the options to give you an idea of what you can do before you find yourself in an emergency and are unable tolocate what you need.
you can also set new waypoints to a location on the map of your choosing, ie: good hunting spot, theme parks, Jabba's Palace, etc. pull up the planetary map, look on the bottom, select New Waypoint and just click. it names it automatically the name of the planet you are currently on, but you can alter the name to whatever it is so you will remember. i use it a lot when i am hunting with a group in case i die, or if i need to run to town and train and want to get right back to the party.
A couple other things...
Your datapad (ctrl-D)contains all your waypoints and you can activate/deactivate them there (usually by double-clicking on them). If you want to make a waypoint, I believe the Create New Waypoint button is on the planet map (ctrl-V) (if not, its in the datapad). It creates a waypoint where you are standing.
You can make waypoints to some places by using the tree on the planet map. For example if you are out in the wilderness and want to get back to the nearest city, open the cities tree and right click on the city for which you want to create a waypoint.A menu pops up, choose create waypoint. Now you can go to your datapad and find the new waypoint and double click to activate it.
In cities if you are looking for an NPC (trainer) or point of interest (bank, shuttle port, star port), use the /find command. Pick what you want from the list. It will not only create a waypoint, but will create a "yellow brick road" for you to follow exactly to your target. To get rid of this, delete the waypoint from your datapad (left click on the waypoint and choose delete waypoint).
You can email waypoints to people by creating an email (ctrl-E) and attaching the waypoint. The recipient can then save the attachment from the email and it will be added to their datapad.
A convenient way to set a waypoint from where you are standing would be to type /waypoint.
This will show up on your planetary map (ctrl + v)

The Waypoints seem to work fine for missions etc
But I am trying to find the cantina and I keep on clicking to get a waypoint there but it stays on the waypoint for finding a bank. I can go delete for the bank waypoint but it does not delete it. All it does show a musical note on the town but that does not help.
I wish there were signs outside the facilities that say what it is. Running around forever trying to find the **edit** cantina. Trying doors that don't open. The map is too rough and shows all those big green blotches and is too vague.
Found a place with a bar and drinks on the bar but don't know if that is the cantina or not. May stand there for the next hour trying to heal my battlewounds and it may not even be the cantina. There are no entertainers there.
Getting very frustrated with all the useless and needless running around in this game, it sucks
just use ctrl + m, it shows u a map and has a name of the buildings. simple way to find stuff in town.
