Old Man FAQ v 1.0
First, you need to attain glowy. To check your glowy status use /check. If you're not glowy, go get it, theres many guides on getting glowy, please visit one of them.
So now you're glowy, and the mainstream guide says to wait for 3 days maximum before the old man comes. You say "but I want to grindddd ittttt
". Well, buckle up cowboy because this proven theory (3 people so far, as well as myself... 100% of everyone whos tried it to my knowledge) will help you do what you thirst for.
Aspect of Activeness
Okay, the SWG code checks for certain things under my assumptions. One, it checks that you've been semi-active. What does this mean? Go run around somewhere. In a city, out of a city, who really cares. Just run around, grind combat exp or something, its not entirely important. Lots of people say don't be on vehicles, I was attacked by sith on my vehicle, but I didn't see the old man on it... so to be safe, I say stay off the vehicle.
Another thing it checks for under my assumption is fighting/crafting or medicing or something that has to do with you being active, meaning don't just tape down an arrow key and run all night. I recommend just doing quekner missions or something to get another profession, or just flat out trying to get credits. The main issue here is you have to be hours for 5-8 hours ACTIVE online time.
This means don't sit afk somewhere for 5-8 hours and then log out log in and hope for the old man to pop up at you. This could happen, I've seen it happen before... however its not the best way to grind.
Once you've been active for at least5-8 hours after attaining glowy, log out, log in, and attack something. EVERY TIME I'VE SEEN THIS THEORY WORK, its been during a combat phase, right after someones logged in. The old man should then walk out ofnowhere and start talking to you*he pops into existance a few meters away from you, not far away generally*.
Problems
Q: I've ran around for 5 hours like you said, I timed it from 2 oclock to 7 oclock, and the old man isn't appearing, why did you lie to me?
A: I didn't lie to you, my 5-8 hours is purely a guess, I have a friend who it took 5 hours, it took me 8 hours... so Im giving you both times and putting a range in and hoping one of them works. If it doesn't work for you, either wait 2 more days and get it the default way that everyone who gives up does, or just try running around more and being more active.
Q: How do you know this is going to work for me?
A: Many people have reported success after following this formula, I hope you achieve the same. Its only 5 hours of your life, compared to 72, you pick.
Q: So I'm a Jedi after this?
A: No, theres lots more to go through after this, please visit one of the other guides that have to do with post-old man Jedi stuff, this is just 1 step in the right direction.
Q: Is there an easier way for those of us who are lazy, but still want to achieve it faster than the 3 day limit?
A: Yes, there is. Another person I talked towas just logged in and sat there for 12 hours, not moving a muscle. He literally sat there, logged out, logged back in, attacked something and the old man came. This does not always work, I've had people fail at this... so I didn't put it in my guide, however if you'd like to try this because you like me are lazy, go for it
.
Q: So, the mainstream guide says 24-72 hours, you're saying you can get the old man sooner?
A: Absolutely, both my friend and myself *my friend in 5 hours, myself in 8... roughly* unlocked before 24 hours was up. The other people whom have tried this were a day in, so if this doesn't work for you, try waiting 1 day, but instead of just logging out for the day, maybe run around and kill things. Use your time wisely, you are going to do other things after you talk to the old man... right? Do them now.
Q: Active is a very vague word, can you be a bit more descriptive?
A: Sure, I'll try. To be active is to (movement is also important as stated in the guide, game activeness and movement are two different aspects)involve yourself in some sort of a game changing way. Examples, starting a fight with something, setting up a camp, crafting something, exiting your house, all changes that influence the data in the game. Changes that don't influence the game are things like getting on your vehicle, or walking. Generating a droid or something... that shouldn't do it, but if it does contact me
.
Q: Does my faction in any way influence the old man?
A: None that I can see, rebs imps and neutrals, enjoy
all at the same rate.
Q: Can I quote this guide and put it on my website or otherwise redistribute it?
A: Absolutely, I encourage it, just make sure to give Karson Charles on Shadowfire the credit.
Q: How can I thank you for helping me get the old man 2 days faster than the general public, I really do owe you my life.
A: It's true, you do owe me your life, but 5 stars would be more than enough.
Thanks for reading

Well, this kinda might disprove a bit of your theory, but my old man story:
i was folling the TC threads as to how to get glowy before pub 10 hit, so i was fairly certain i would be glowy come patch day.
Patch day came, i was outta town with no SWG, but my buddy logged me in to check and sure enough, glowing. Total log in time that day: less than 5 minutes.
I got home 3 days later (patch came out on tues, i got on on thursday). I logged in for about 30 min, was in player city Last Haven, Naboo at their shuttleport waiting for a shuttle. for the half hour prior to that i was checking up on harvesters. So at the shuttle port sure enough, the old man showed up for me.
Total time I spent online between publish patch 10 (officially being glowy) and when i got my visit: approx. 35 min.
Time between logins: roughly 72 hours (3 days)
hope this helps you figure things out
if you have any questions send me a PM

The sith came after me when i was getting buffed and a Imp turret killed them.A fewhours later i was getting buffed again and they came. So just try getting buffed in a player city.

Actually, the waiting thing IS covered in my guide too, it works and Ive stated it works, you waited 3 days, the maximum length... depending on your activity, you could have possibly waited even less but if you wait 3 days, the old man will show up very fast. You just have to do something game changing... like taking a shuttle, setting up a camp, killing something.

Here's how some of my guild got our visit:
-Me and a guildiegotour visit taking missions at a player city mission terminal (same city, different day, lol)
- another got his visit while sitting in a camp
- another got his visit while fighting
- another got her visit buying armor off a vendor in a player city
My point is that you can pretty much be doing ANYTHING and get the visit. Good guide, though

Yep, you can be doing pretty much anything to activate the process. It just requires you to be active in some way.
My idea is... if you do something... example kill something, you get +1 old man points, if you build a camp you get +1 old man points... etc etc etc.
If you don't have X points needed, you don't unlock him until 3 days. If you do, you can do almost anything and he will appear. Sorry I didnt include the formula

Thats because the 24-72 hour method is a lot more solid, than "Well..he might come to you if you shuttle around, but you might need to be killing qunkers, while your dancing on one foot, and eating some carrots"
But mostly because its not actually a guide, its just a bunch of speculation. My alternate character had his old man visit about 24 hours after glowy, and I played at least a good 5 hours in between there. So, i'd consider your experiences a bunch of luck and nothing more.
