I don't believe that the encumberance of the armor lowers your HAM bars. Pretty sure it only lowers your secondary stats.

It "Only" lowers the secondary stats, not the primary.

Ok this has probably been posted before but i havent found it, and i see ppl asking about armor and the infamous "you are not healthy enough to wear this" when i was trying to figure out how to wear armor i finally figured it out ...and then someone explained the stats to me..feel free to add to this if you think anything is wrong

Ok first Character stats:

You have 3 main stats (Health, Action, and Mind) these control your pools, or HAM bars.

the amount in your main stats is displayed in the top left hand corner of your screen, If any reach 0 you incap(duh!)

Under each main stat are 2 substats.

Health has Strength(substat_1) and Constitution(substat_2).

Action has Quickness(substat_1) and stamina(substat_2).

Mind has focus(substat_1) andWillpower(substat_2).

Substat_1 in all stats affects how much damage your main pools take when using special moves

Substat_2 in all stats affects how quickly you regen your main pools when injured.

OK now armor is really simple.

under Encumberance there is a penalty amount on all 3 main stats. well take a chittin helmet for example

encumberance to health 13

Encumberance to action13

Encumberance to mind188

The encumberance is deducted not only off the main stat but both substats as well. if it will push any number into the negative "You are not healthy enough to wear this item".

There are a few ways to get around this

METHOD 1

Food

PROS

Raises Stats

Works Quickly

no Drug after effects

CONS

only small stat boost

short duration after which pushes one stat into the negative causing either slow regen or big hits to the HAM

METHOD 2

drugs

PROS

Raises Stats(more than food)

Works quickly

CONS

after effects

only temporary(see above)

METHOD 3

stat migration

PROS

permanent(or at least until next time u migrate) so you will stay positive on all numbers even with armor.

CONS

takes a very, very long time.

OK thats it the guides done feel free to add any comments

yah armor will actually increase the damage you do to yourself using specials since it's lowering substat_1 while wearing it. What I hate is that there seems to be a bug, at least on my character, where sometimes after I remove my armor, the stat loss is still there!! I have to re-log to fix it.

yeah thats a known bug that im sure the devs are working on....or maybe they are putting in more caves or nerfing droids and creatures....or maybe they working on the rifle nerf or the pistol nerf.....or maybe they playing KOTOR

Stat loss remains on my character when I die, also. Relogin2fixbugstheywont.

Well I never use armor anymore.....everytime I put on a full set of bone armor I usually die because my Action bar goes empty?? I do much better without armor. I think the Devs need to revist the whole armor thing. Not much point in using armor if if serves to get your char killed at every turn. I can certainly understand some encumberances but the current format is out of whack.

Well, I haven't had any problems with my Bone/Mabari/and current Chitin Armor. I like looking at the combat tab and seeing what it is actually doing for me. (Chitin boots take 42 pts of damage, Chitin Helemet takes 81 points of damage and so on.)

If you wonder why your using it and not seing much of a benefit, try looking at tyour combat tab and see if it is helping you or not. Also, make sure you have the right armor for the right occasion...

Same here... Blew 21k on a new set of Chitin and I wore it for about 10 min. With the cumulative hits on the secondary stats the HAM drain with specials is terrible. The regen time is bad too.

I can see takin a hit to walk/run speed and also for hand-to-hand for quickness...

I agree, armor is useless for me too.

using armor is a numbers game really.. those that use it tend to migrate their stats out of the HAMs and into the secondaries. Thus keeping the secondaries at ok levels while wearing the armor. Sure they might die quicker if hit hard enough, but if the armor is doing it's job, that shouldn't happen before they kill the mob or get away. So for those saying armor is doing you no good, what are your secondary stats at? 300 each? well no wonder! I recently changed my stats to help in this. I now only have 900 health, 900 action and 800 mind and boosted my action and mind, mostly mind, secondary stats. I'm a trandoshan so I actually lowered my health secondaries a little being high at the start. It's helped me out alot while wearing armor. It also helps since I like using my rifle the most and got sick of draining my mind bar due to low mind and low focus and low willpower. Though now i'm thinking of dropping the main bars a little more to boost my secondaries to see if that improves things while I'm in armor. It's a big balancing act.
