Does anyone have any idea when capes will be added to the game? I must have a cape. I dont think that anyone can quite comprehend the need i have for a cape. Its like a neccessity. My cape is kinda like my pants in real life. I cant walk around without my pants in real life and its getting more and more difficult for me to run around with out my cape in-game. even a cool lookin cloak with a hood that covers my head would work. like a parka sort of would suffice. (actually i think i like that better. So i need a cape with a hood, and i should have an emote where i pull the hood back to reveal my face. now how cool would that be? If anybody has any info on when capes are going to be added please let me know, i havent read about it yet so i decided i would goto the tailers to see what you foks have to say.

When computers advance in technology.

Moving flowingcapes cause a serious frame rate drag per item. If several people wore them on your screen you'd have less FPS than downtown Omni-1 on Anarchy Online.

Actualy I have and the capes there are of different structure and behavior than whatthe capes of SWG need to be. Even then they had to be completly devoid of any texture and could only take on various lighting effects. Furthermore, on a Zerg, the framerate is so bad that even the machine that runs SWG fine now could barely function and thats just on the treck there.

So yes, Live played DAoC and I do not think its a proper comparison due to the different engines and different overal costume layering system each game uses.

See from what I have gleaned from the development history of the game is that capes were attempted early onsometime durringor around about Alpha stage. There were two different types:

Those that 'free flowed' apart from the model. Which while it looked cool it tended to send the FPS to the poophouse.

Then there was the kind that followed the logic that clothes have currently where even the 'flowing' outfits are actualy static layers that are hard-locked to the avatar's join structure. These variants looked rather silly and did not seem to behave right at all. You will noticed with dusters this method is used as well and while there it looks okay.. it still has an odd 'feel' to it. Imagine the capes have this issue tenfold and you will get the idea.

Now while I'm not saying capes will never be in the game. Currently they probablyneed to solve some serious issues with how their layering works before we can see some decent Capes. Else we may be stuck with wearing stiff kleenex.

totally agree

vandessa, i disagree completely with the fps problem. im sure it would cause a drop, but i dont think it would be drastic. I think DAoC is a perfect example, i dont care if the cape is stuck to my feet or not, i just want one and it could be done to look good, ive seen some people do quite amazing stuff with graphics on medicore (i think thats how its spelled) machines. i think they could figure it out.

Capes and other clothing with hoods should have a "hood up" and "hood down" mode (essentially 2 models in one) that you could toggle.

Hey I'm not saying its impossoble either. I'm just answering the question "Why aren't they here yet"

Capes will be a challenge, and we might not see them for a while.

The Setting: Coronet Cantina

The Players

Me (a master Tailor)

Fellow Master Tailor

Noob

Noob (to fellow master tailor): can you make cape

Fellow Master Tailor: no, I'm sorry, those have not been put into the game yet.

(general "why not" discussion between them ensues as I try to remember how to take MY master tailor flag down)

Noob (10 seconds later, to me): can u make cape

Me: excuse me? (amazed that he would ask the same question to a different master tailor 2 seconds later)

Noob: can u make cape

Me: look, fellow master tailor wasn't lying, there really are none in the game.

Noob: yes there are, they are the ones that the jedi wore

Me: no really, I have no schematic for one, and there really are none

Noob: Yes there are! they are on bazaar!

Me: Fine, both master tailors in this cantina are obviously retarded.
