Is there a secret to mining? Can a mining gooru help an "experianced" player out? Is the mining ship worth even keeping out of deed form?

the Y-8 i think is really cool not for mining though its bugged, anyway to mine what u do is

Equip mining lasers and tractor beam

shoot big rock with lasers a chunk will break off

folow that chunk blasting it

chunk breaks up

use tractorbeam to bring the chunks to you orthe mining laser to destroy the bits and pick up the resource

hope this helps

I can't figure out space mining. I have a Dunelizard Fighter with a small cargo hold and a mining laser. I'm blasting away with the mining laser at a carbonaceous astroid and no smaller fragments appear. I'm about 250m away although that doesn't seem to matter as I've tried different distances.

Can anyone help? I'm sitting in front of the asteroid right now.

TIA

Sometimes the asteriod runs out of ore, then you just have to blast away on it till it blows up so a new one appare.

What they said. If you have a relatively weak mining laser (like type 1 or 2), blowing away the stripped asteroid can take a lot of time. Usually, I run out of patience and just find a new one. However, if you DO blow it away, it respawns fully juiced pretty quickly.

As mentioned above it sounds like the asteriod is out of resources. Typically with a single laser you will get a small chunk to break off with two shots. If you are not seeing this then you have likely found an "empty" asteroid. It's simply a matter of destroying that asteroid and it will automatically respawn a new fully replenished asteroid in a matter of five seconds or less usually. However as mentioned above as well it can take some time to destroy an asteroid using a single laser. If you use /ex on the asteroid you should be able to see the current HP's of the asteroid and gauge roughly how long it will take you to destroy it, if your close just finish it off, but if you're a ways away from destroying it just go find another asteroid.

I had the same problem this past week. I have done alot of mining in the past and I took my Y-8 to show it off to a friend who was also have trouble mining (mk3 mining laser in a krayt). I did only have a mark 2 mining laser on it but I shot at the asteroid for over 10 minutes straight and no chunks. Any ideas?

Edit: I know my mining laser and I know when an asteroid runs out and about how long it takes me to kill it (I have mined an asteroid from spawn to destruction and spawn again), but this was much longer.

You had a Mark II mining laser an a Y-8? I think that is why, you have to use an elite mining laser in a Y-8.

I haven't spent the credits to get one of the elite ones yet but I know that isn't the problem. That wasn't the first time I had use that laser in my Y-8 and it worked fine before.
