Thread: Recursive Sampling... aka Infinate loop sampling.

HI,

I was playing around with the armor macro when I realized I could apply it to sampling. No longer will I have to check the comp every so often to see if my sampling has stopped.

BTW the only way to break the loop is to logout.

Make the following macro and place it into your 13th slot on your first pane of hotkeys.

********************** START MACRO ***************************

/stand; /sample; /pause 500; /stand; /sit; /pause 200;

/ui action toolbarSlot12;

********************** END OF MACRO **************************

...you get the idea... you can play with the pauses to get the most benifit. The last line of code is what recalls itself. Yes and the capital S in Slot does matter. The code ...Slot12 calls the 13th slot on your hotkey because your hotkeys are numbered 00 - 23 for a total of 24 hotkeys per pane(page).

Thanks !

Now if some guru out there can figure out how to stop the thing?

What if you remove it from the 13th slot - say after it has run a few times?

Or when you are ready to stop?

Seems like it would stop running right?

I will try it tonight ....

Wouldn't one just be able to to edit the macro to take out the last line forcing the macro to run itself again? That way you wouldn't have to log out, and then you just have to put the line back in the macro when you want to use it again. Or maybe I'm wrong...

This will be hit by a hot-fix within 24 hours. I'm not arguing for or against it...I'm just stating that we all know it'll be adressed immediately.

There is NO way I can imagine them not disabling this ability somehow.

Come to think of it though, they might not have to do anything. Anyone else finding themselves going LD often enough to make the functionality of something like this close to nil?

Sampling Fixes--Yummy. Last time they did that it allows my guy to fully regenerate before taking another sample completely removing the need for a macro

You can stop it running by either moving the macro to a different slot or switching to a different toolbar (and making sure that nothing disasterous will be run in that slot in the new toobar).

Now that we have a nice way of doing arbitrary length repeating in-game macros that can actually be *stopped* in the middle, I hope the Devs do not treat this as something negative. It is a way better solution then the crazy-length, out of control macro-macros that people did in the past.

There are great potentials for this command including: unequiping/equiping all your clothes and armour with one button, queueing up some combo of shots with a weapon switch in them (although this would be tricky since weapon switches are not queuable). I am hoping that this great functionality is not taken from us.

It would be sad to see them do this since this kind of macro would actually keep people at their computers more. In the past, If you wanted to sample a lot of stuff and you didn't have a harvester, you had to make a macro that would last a long time and was completely uninterruptible. You couldn't do anything else but run the macro which caused people to wander off. Now you can sample/rest for as long as you need, or you can stop it in the middle to do something else for a while without having to relog to break the macro. This is a big convenience that will actually keep people closer to their computers, not drive them farther away. It will also reduce the load on the login servers since there will be less relogs to clear out-of-control macros. All you do to stop this is switch toolbars or move the slot or edit the macro on the fly and comment out the loop.

Actually the best way to stop the recursion guard is to use a program called Auto-It (www.hiddensoft.com/autoit)

This program runs externally and basically just passes keystrokes to the swg.exe client. The benefit of using this is that it can't hit a recursion guard and you are never set to AFK. There are some good tutorials on how to set up scripts even for crafting multiple items while you sample. Or even for dancing and foraging infinitely.

Check it out, it works great! My script for sampling is only 1 line long using this program and you can edit them in notepad just like regular aliases. The best thing is when you want the script to stop you just alt-tab out of SWG and stop the Auto-It program from running.

If you want some examples of scripts email me below,

Lord, how pathetic is this? Why do you people even play the game? I mean, you not actually PLAYING the game. You just want to level, level, and level some more. THEN when you get the highest amount of resources, and the HIGHEST skills... THEN maybe you'll play the game.

I'm not sure which is more pathetic. This? Or the sad souls that can't do it for themselves and buy high-level characters on ebay.

Why don't you actually PLAY the friggin' game, or get the heck off so there is more bandwidth for those of us that DO want to play the game... the WHOLE game.

Hi DarthEric2,

If we want to play the game this way what's wrong with it? Perhaps it helps people who wouldn't normally have access to play as much as someone else. I use it while I'm at work and while I'm asleep because I don't have a lot of free time to play the game. Sure I do play the game as well and it's a blast, but I don't think you have the right to flame us for doing something that makes the game more accessible.

Perhaps you'd like to put more effort into your response next time and consider that something that makes the game more accessible for people isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Now that I know how to assign hotkeys to a macro, I'm going to see if I can take my armor on and off. Heck, I could even assign an entire wardrobe with one click. That would be rad. Run out of the Cantina like an everyday citizen and instantly transform in to Super Cygnus. I like it. Thanks
