I kinda did the opposite after searching for many days with no avail.

I typed in all the X,Y coordinates into a spreadsheet and then plotted them on a 2D plot.

Then I found the average and standard deviation values. Not surpisingly the center was at the ranchers house.

Finally, I found the maximum and minimum values of the coordiates, which created a search "box" Starting driving around from corner to corner of the box and found the pirate right away at the MAXIMUM upper right corner. Odds were against it but there he was

Alright everyone,

I have found a fool-proof method to finding the Pirates on the Hero of Tatooine / Mark of Honor quest that may work for you as well... Just thought that I'd share this info as it may help quite a few of you. I have found the Pirates over 7 times for people now using this method, and it VERY rarely takes me over 30 mins to do so...

Here is what you will need to do this:

- a blank sheet of paper

- a roll of clear tape (Scotch or whatever)

- a compass (not the type you'd use in the woods *grin*, the type to draw a circle out with...)

- some scissors

Alright now here's the steps to implement this method:

1. First start at the Rancher's House, right where the wife is standing... That is to say, stand on top of her and create a waypoint right at that spot.

2. Go outside, get on your speeder and bring up the world map (CTRL-V) and move out in any direction 1000m. To do this you will have to keep your mouse pointer on the very tip of the blue marker you have just created for the waypoint. Keep moving the tip of the mouse cursor over the tip of the blue marker as you ride out until you get to exactly 1000 m.

NOTE: I usually use a zoom of four clicks from the left (most zoomed in setting) to do this as is provides the best scaling later...

3. Once you are at 1000 m, stop there and try and center the map on the Rancher's House waypoint you have created as best as possible... I click on the tip of that blue marker several times to set that as the center for zooming in and out and then zoom back out four clicks from the left as I had done previously.

4. Using your compass, place the metal pointer tip on the very tip of the blue marker at the Rancher's House (the point you had been waving your mouse cursor over while riding...) and place the pencil point in the center of the yellow cross that represents your speeder / self...

5. Now you should have the physical distance represented from yourself to the waypoint you created earlier, it will be 1000 m away... Using the blank sheet of paper, scribe a circle using the compass of this radius you have found.

NOTE: Make sure you press rather hard with the metal tip in the center of the circle you are drawing so you can see the middlepoint.

6. Cut the circle you have just drawn out of the sheet of paper, using the scissors. Punch a small hole in the center of the circle (marked by the indentation of the metal tip from the compass). I used the tip of my compass to do this and then a thick paper clip to make it a little wider... You want it to be big enough you can see through, but still centered very well in the middle of the paper circle.

7. Now, using one small piece of the Scotch clear tape, tape the circle onto your monitor with the hole in the middle centered over the tip of the blue marker on the Rancher's wife waypoint. Be as exact as possible as this really helps. Now you have a circle representing a 1000 m radius at the zoom setting you have used on your map.

8. Using an X-34 Landspeeder or something slower (like your feet), fly around the border of the circle on your map. This will keep you 1000 m away from the rancher's wife at all times. Ensure that you have clicked on the Combat tab of your dialog boxes so you can monitor who shoots at you. A lot of times Bandits will shoot at you and you will need to discriminate which kind of enemy is attacking you.

NOTE: If you use a Swoop or AV-21 you will be moving much TOO FAST to allow the Pirates to spawn... Really the X-34 is your best bet in this case...

9. I ususally fly three circles around the border of the circle at this 1000 m setting... If I have not found them by then, I zoom out once (since you have centered on the waypoint, it will remain in the hole in the center of your circle, you will NOT have to retape...) and then fly out to the border and then go around once more. If I still have not found the Pirates (rare) I zoom in once again back to the 1000 m setting and do another lap around the circle...

10. If you still have not found the Pirates at this point, keep zooming in one click (you should have like three zoom settings left to run through) and keep making circuits around the circle... Trust me they WILL show up, and most likely at the 1000 m setting.

NOTE: Keep the map up at all times and just steer around the circle, don't worry about trying to see what's going on in the main viewscreen... Just keep steering around the circle's edge and watching your Combat dialog to see who's shooting at you. When they attack, just stop moving, hop off your landspeeder and complete the quest... Also, you might want to take the paper circle off your screen at that point, as it can make it rather difficult to see...

Well that's about it, I sure hope this helps some of you as much as it helped me... I know some of you have been flying choppy circles around at what you hoped were 1000 m away from the Rancher's Wife, but this method ensures it. I have NEVER not found the Pirates using this method. Not to say someone else won't have bugged them using KD/Dizzy, but you can always hope for the best.

I came up with this method all on my own after pondering it for awhile, and I'm rather proud of it and thought others should be allowed to profit from my earlier attempts at frustration.

Good luck out there and take care!

Nice guide, what I`ve been goingis start at the ranchers then spiral out from it ie. circling around while increasing the distance. I found them once and started fighting them, but later someone rushed in out of nowhere attacked and started talking to the pirate leader, so he despawned again. Kinda sucks that someone can just come in and steal it like that. =(

I´m pretty sure the piratesalso spawned in the canyon just below the ranchers house, before I knew that it was a quest and before I´ve talked to the hermit, with a character on another server, so the spawns might be a little more random. Now the area is filled with scyks, worrts and even squills or other red dots, maybe clearing the area out might cause them to spawn there too?

Thanks guys,

NOTE: I've gotten a few questions as to why not just use the waypoint window to stay 1000 m out from the waypoint... ( I'm not able to edit my posts yet, as I'm a new member of these boards, so I guess this will have to stay version 0.1 for awhile... )

Unfortunately, that's what I thought too when I first tried doing this quest... As I came to later find out, using the waypoint windowresults in choppy circles which doesn't seem to cause the Pirates to spawn as easily. I've tried several different things (spent three weeks looking, before I came up with this method...) and I assure you, this is the best way to do it I've found.
