If you are just trying to 'become a Jedi' at this point, you should just sit back and wait until Publish 10.

Unfortunatly at the moment the only way to become a jedi is to get holocrons as loot drops from mobs, open the holocron then grind out the proffesion it tells you.
However this will be changing in a couple of months to a series of quests you must perform to become a Padawan. No one knows the exact details of this yet though.
If you do get hold of a holocron though I sujest you work on that proffesion as this will put you ferther along the path when the quest goes live than just starting the quests out strait

Actually its total professions and not holocron professions mastered that determines how far along you start in the quests. For instance if I have done all 4 holos and working My silent, I will not be 4/5s of the way through the quests, instead I will be 4/32's of the way.
Luckily I have 16 mastered so I will be starting halfway.

I think you may be looking at this wrong SirNick.
Think of it this way.
You must take 5 steps to make it out of a maze.
You have taken 4 of the known steps.
You decide to go off to the side for 32 steps.
No matter how many side-steps you take, you still only need to take one more correct step.
You are 4/5ths done.
At least that is how I see it.
Grinding away on 30 professions is pointless if you know you only have one to go.
If someone has a better argument, please let me hear it.

The whole point is that after 4 proffessions you are not told the final.... So you may HAVE to grind every other proffession in the game... or you may get lucky and unlock on the next one you master.

Yes, but grinding away at 28 more professions does not get you any closer until you find that last one.
It may make your chances better of figuring out the next step, but it gets you no closer.
You are still one step away no matter how many other steps you have taken to the side.

Did you master any of those professions before they started awarding badges? If so, you may not be getting credit for all 16, assuming some of your masteries were non-holocron professions.

Did a dev actually state that they would reward people based on the amount of total professions mastered, and not the total amount of Holo-professions mastered?
There is a big difference I would think.

Old System to New System Conversion
...
Players who have completed many profession masteries will be ranked according to how many professions they have completed and based on that information, they will be able to rapidly advance through the "Jedi Trials".

Exactly, as I stated holo professions do not matter, it is total professions mastered according to what the devs are saying. At first I was under the impressions it was holos and was excited that I would only need to do the last 1/5th of the quests, unfortunately I will be doing about half.

/agree this is how its going to be if u dont think so read the jedi archives volume 2 they do say its how many u master NOT how many HOLO professions you have mastered. actually they never even mention holocrons.
