My apologies, this is not a guide i know, but looking through all the forums there wasn't one labeled *Moan Here*
So i've stuck it with you guys, maybe it might strike a cord with some of you.
------
While digging through my old documents i found this, i wrote this some months back just after i left galaxies but never posted it, i was very bitter as i had-had so much fun playing that it really annoyed me how much everything had gone to pot.
Oh and by the way, i have actually started playing galaxies again, i know nothing has changed, and i don't expect anything to either but i'm back in the very small hope that i can rekindle some of the fire that i once had so passionately for galaxies. Perhaps they'll totally re-do some fundamentals of the game?
A guy can dream, a guy can dream.
------
So in summary, everyone's noticing galaxies is servely lacking in *end game* content. Galaxies has some major design flaws, buffs need to be removed from the game. Buffs are the reason we have insane things like the Corvette, the vette's ammusing the first time and then as you realise that it just is total insanity you vow never to return.
It was the realisation that galaxies held nothing once the grind was over that caused myself to leave, once i'd killed everything, again and again and again and again i watched as the geo caves were released, the corvette, the DWB, all of it was meaningless after one run through all that was left was to collect ph4t l3wt that in turn made killing the monsters i'd been killing for the last 6 months even easier...

I played on because of the memory of all the fun that i *HAD* had in galaxies, not because of fun that i was having. I remember so fondly the "Dath Crew". Myself, Ssith-rin, MaxSambal, Reduan and a handful of others were proudly some of the first people on our server to delve succesfully into Dathomir and live to tell the tale (well, most of the time). The only master amoung us was Max, he'd just hit master doc, but note, no buffs at this time. We all had so much fun, i couldn't tare myself away from galaxies, the dark lush woodlands of Dath and the rancors, all the weird animals there was so much to it, we'd slaughter some lair of something, set up in our camp, all heal up and move on.
Sharnaff teams... We've all been there, done that. Tried being in a snaffer team thesedays? Missions last seconds as lairs die in a hail of special spam to a team of people who physically can't die for the next 3hrs15mins at which point off they run to /tip 15000 bank and get another god mode.

I always wanted to do a Team Muckle Krayt hunt, i've killed a mountain in my time, but wanted to share one... Nope, that doesnt work anymore, every spawn is well known and camped 24/7 by teams of overcharge2 spamming T21 toting riflemen.
SoE's response to the fact everyone was walking all over all the content was to add new things with a bucketload of health, heavy armour and resists pouring out its arse, oh and for good measure, make it do 2-3k a hit. Thats not fun, that's just a massacre. But what if it was just like every other weak mob? Well then i'd be moaning about how everything was too easy...
I'm a hypocrite, i moan about buffs, yet i stand here with all stats migrated to mind and an wholely unable to fight without them anymore. It's like being given godmode on any game, once your tasted it, thats it, your hooked, why make life so much harder without them when its so easy to get them? But with them the game is too easy...
I spent my noobie days so badly wanting to be an uber leet master, now i spent all my days so badly wanting to be able to hit the reset button on the server and make everyone a noob again.

JTL? JTL is eyecandy, it addresses not one single issue wrong with galaxies today.
Ah, the fabled combat revamp? A year too late idiots. It can't work, it can't be everything i want it to be, if SoE turned around and removed buffs/uber dmg specials and all of todays trinkets people would, well, it just wouldn't happen. That would be like letting a child lick a lolly and then pulling it away and saying, "Nope, can't have it."
"But if we didn't have buffs everything in the DWB would kill us in 1 hit..." All new content has been made to try and add some difficulty to high end play, if people weren't so tough the new content would have been scaled down accordingly.

Jedi. Ah jedi, jedi, jedi. Since day 1, Jedi, the great mystery, theories abound, holocrons rarer than rare, would anyone crack the mystery?? Jedi have been around since about 7 months after launch, it took a further 4 months for me to see a single jedi, ah, but the formula had been cracked, and the playerbase that once was satisfied with mastering there chosen professions was suddenly realising there wasn't anything left to do so all eyes turned to jedi...
With those further 4 months up jedi, everywhere. No longer a mystery, no longer whispered secrets and convo's of, "My mate's a jedi!" and "Pfft, yeah right." Now, yup, his mate really is a jedi, and his friends friend... and his friends friend's friend... Infact his entire guild is now a Jedi only guild.
The jedi system is one of the singlemost flawed aspects of any game i have ever played. "Blablalbla, winge winge winge, i bought SWG to be a jedi..." AHA!! Exactly the problem, the impression was given from the start that everyone had the chance to develope there charactors into a jedi, IMO was a gigantic mistake, oh i think Jedi should be in the game, but i also think there should be about 10 on every server, no more.
But the whole jedi *issue* has only come about as everyone grows bored of there normal charactors due to being able to do everything, and what allows them to do that....?

I remember a time when i stood in coronet ALONE. Maybe i might see another person or two, usually new, most asking for help with this and that, everyone asking for teaching... I remember when south of coronet was open land! *gasp* Not a mass of fugly buildings with "COmE InSIDE, T3H ph4Tz r, HERE!" plastered all overthem... I remember a time when Mighty stood in Bestine spamming his heart out to get his weapons sold.
I remember a time when galaxies was actually a MMORPG... Now look, people are teamed sure... In *solo groups* What is wrong with an mmorpg where the people team... so that they can go off and kill on there own?
Galaxies has turned into the largest single-player game ever... What makes all this solo play possible?

Medics? I remember a time when you actually had a medic in a team, what a novel thought, needing a medic when hunting. Monsters were challenging, trying to use your specials to land state's but not killing yourself with HAM costs in the process, actually relying on a doc or some of your own healing to see you through a fight. Ranged professions actually needing melee tanks, CREATURE HANDLERS BEING USEFULL!!! Choist, the thought of going sharnaff hunting, squill hunting, or for the really brave, rancor hunting without an army of pets to act as meat shields was totally insane.
For the love of christ when you first noticed people solo'ing krayt dragons didn't alarms bells ring?!?! Why oh why didn't you just sit down and go, "Oh look, these buffpacks are really abit too powerful, we never meant for peoples regen to be higher than any monsters ability to do dmg, we should really put a much lower cap on their power."
That would have been it, it is my honest belief that when you designed this game you never envisioned buffs more than doubling peoples current stats, that would have made buffs handy yes, but overpowered, no, as you would have to have much more even stats to get the most from the buffs.
*sigh*

Here i sit feeling so *utterly* sorry for new people joining the game, i think of all the fun i've had that they will miss out on totally, how soon they will be told about quenkers and buffs, how soon they will visit 5 content POI's, 3 jedi POI's, 5 easy POI's 3 hard POI's, not because they were exploring and came across them, but because a guide says thats the way to get jedi fastest.
The GCW is a joke, PvP in galaxies was never designed with buffs and 90% sliced armour in mind, wars of attrittion and special spam rather than any skills.
I fondly think back on guild hunts to Endor, most ended in wholesale slaughter, but rest assured the doc's got cracking xp and everyone enjoyed themselves, there is fun in death, fun in failing, it only strengthens your resolve to try harder and win.
I once played this game called galaxies something or other, was good fun for awhile, then everyone figured out how to never die, it was fun at first but got kinda boring after awhile.
Shame, was a really good game.

Very well written. Too bad the only people who take this to heart are the people like us who have these fond memories of what the game used to be like before it all went to pot. I miss that game too.

I hope master shipwrights can temporarily buff your ship in JtL
But seriously, I agree buffs have made things too easy, but your are forgetting the other major part of the equation and a root cause. When creature handlers were nerfed as the first part of the combat balance (that as you say may never be completed because many people have become too comfortable with their overpowered templates), it basically lowered the HAM, armor, and resistances on all creatures. A side effect of this is now all the things that WERE hard like rancors and sharnaffs, CAN be taken out solo, even without a buff and a relatively weak template. High level NPC's are a different issue but they still relatively often kick my buffed/nerfed/broken template butt, at least they got their specials back. To add insult to injury, people run around in 80% composite that shouldn't even be wearable when their buffs run out.
Hmmm, ranting is contagious maybe?

I agree with this post to some extent, yes, buffs did ruin the game...
I remember when I was first playing, I and my friend on there went to dant in a group of 15, yes 15! and literally hunted voritors unbuffed.
I was an apprentice rifleman, and was proud to be it, it was a huge achievment for me, thats not even a novice rifleman LOL!
I remember we had scouts in our group, when they were actually useful for other than killing/harvesting things.
Out in the middle of nowhere he made a camp, we sat in it and got healed/regrouped or pulled out our vehicles/mounts.
I enjoyed hunting without buffs, when voritors would kill you, and your group, and it was fun!!!
The only point I do disagree on is the jedi side of things, yes the revamp is s hit, so is the FRS, but 90% of this player base wants jedi, bad as it is, and if jedi goes, like you said to something like 10 on every server, then people would quit.
Theres enough people AFk macroing as it is without seeing less people in the streets

They should cap all buffs at 500 - 800, maybe scaling with the power of the character. People will still get buffs so the docs will still make their cash and won't be too angry. Soloing will still be possible, but teams will be necessary for some of the higher end creatures.

You summarized so well what I have being rambling on about since , Hell I dont know when
i remember being in kor vella with 40 people all at the edge of town, picking of durnis and butterflies, and every now and then a few guys would come screaming in with a humbaba chaseing them, everyone would shoot with their CDEFs and hac with their survival knifes, and eventuly kill it , I brought a artistian 150 bone so he would make me my first armor , a peice of bone armor chestplate, and yet now.....

the best hunts i've been on have been unbuffed and in groups. 90% of my hunting is done unbuffed and in low ham armour.

Another place for the "old timers" to rant about how good the game USED to be. Funny I don't hear you whining about landspeeders. Surely this MUST have been a better game when you had to RUN everywhere!!!
Either you need to use that cancel account button or stop whining - the game evolved - deal with it!

why whine about landspeeders? what they are saying is that buffs have lead to people being able to wear heavier armour and kill most things alone which has had a negative impact on the community as more people hunt alone rather than hunt with other people.
There are people whining that they can't Solo a particular beastie or npc and so its just plainly to hard ... when in fact some things are meant to be played as a team with tactics.
Buffs have promoted the solo-grouping mindset and people by their own detriment say the game gets boring because they can solo anything ... so long as they have their 80%+ comp armour and top buffs.
I'm not whining ... just stating what has inevitably evolved.
I can buff and armour up and slaughter 39k missions without breaking sweat ... solo ... That same missions would probably need 4 people or more with lighter armour and no buffs. I'd much rather be in that unbuffed team.

The landspeeder is a reference to how selective the old timers are about what they gripe about. SWG was conceived and started as requiring people to group. Since it's lauch however SOE has found that many, many more people want to hunt solo then interact. When I hunt, grouping would be nice but more times than not I don't want to fuss or TAKE THE TIME trying to put a group together - JEEZUMS! I just want to play!
I can hear the response form the "veterans" ... "Then you should just get a copy of Duke Nukem cause you're not "really" into MMORGs."
Nope, not the case at all. I like the interaction in the cantinas, I like bartering my wears and resources. I like helping newbies out. The "veterans" (a small but vocal group) seem to be fixated on taking six months to a year to develop your character to the point where you can play the game beyond kreetel hunting! Again who is stopping you from grouping? If there are so very many of you why don't you all make a date to go hunting on Dant without your armor and buffs? No one is stopping this type of play but you seem intent on stopping MY style of play - simply because not very many people WANT to go back to the "good old days".
There is a reason SOE doesn't set up a buff, armor and weapon nerfed server. Because it would be empty!!!!
One star me all you want.
