Thread: Loot Kits and drop rates

The devs have it set up that the junk dealers will buy a finished loot kit for 1000 or 10000 credits, can't remember which. But on my server individual components for kits are selling for 200k and up. Last night I killed 30-50 npcs, didn't get a single piece. Maybe I am killing the wrong NPCs, but the drop rate seems way too low. I mostly work on Tatooine, so I kill tuskens, Spice Fiends, Desert Demons, and tons of Storm Troopers.

If anyone knows of NPCs that drop pieces more often than others please let me know. If you are a developer on this game, please look into increasing the drop rate.

I think prices will drop soon, but it may not help you. What you really need to worry about is the drop rate for the adhesive which is much rarer than the other parts. Eventually the number of gongs, rugs etc constructed is going to be determined by the number of adhesives looted, which means that for every one built theres going to be 10 sets of the other 9 components going spare; so the prices for them will surely drop. This doesnt help you though if the adhesive is selling for 1 million plus as it is now.

Well there are 50 loot kit pieces total, so your chances of getting any single piece is relatively good (albeit still low). Getting the adhesives specifically is tougher because there are only 5 of them versus 45 other pieces. Its not necessarily that the drop rate for adhesives is lower than the other pieces, they have the exact same chance of randomly dropping (if you get a piece you have a 1/10 or 10% chance of getting an adhesive). However, if you couple this with the low drop rates anyway (maybe 3-4 per day if you kill non-stop all day), then it seems that the adhesive drop rate is more rare.

any NPC has the chance to drop a loot kit piece. The reason most people have better luck with Tuskens and Meatlumps is that there are spots in the game where there are static spawns of these NPCs and you can just kill non-stop.

It's kind of like the odds of rolling double 6s in craps. Every roll you make has the same chance of getting a 12... 1/36. Its rare because there's only one way to make it, but the odds are the same as rolling a double of any number on the die. The reasons you see the other numbers than 12 more is that there are more ways to get them (3/4 - seven has the highest probability, but for each combination, there is still that 1 in 36 chance each and every roll). Hope that made some sense I am writing fast so I can get back to work

Do NPCs from missions drop things? I did 10 or so Imp Destroy missions and killed 50 Imperials. Not a single loot kit item dropped.

In the last couple of days, I have been getting 3-5 pieces in just a couple hours, maybe less. Actually, just a while ago, I got 2 pieces within 10 seconds. I've been thinking, either I've just been lucky orthey most have increased the drop rate cause before I was lucky to even get one all day. I've been killing mostly meatlumps and various thugs around the city. This is on the starsider server.

I disagree. My own experience is I have looted about 80 components and only one was adhesive. Statistically I would have expected 8. I could just have been unlucky of course but I dont think so since from trying to buy adhesive, and talking to other loot collectors who are all waiting on the adhesive I know it is much harder to find than the other components.

You have to keep in mind there are two random chances at work here...

1. the chance that a loot kit piece will drop at all - lets assume for the moment that they have a 10-25% chance of dropping (closer to 10 I'll bet). statistics say you should get a piece 1 out of every four kills. actuality can be much more or less since each kill is a separate random chance (like a roll of the dice or spin of the wheel - odds, not statistics).

2. once you achieve number 1, you then have a 1/50 chance in what is going to drop as that part. adhesives are only 5 parts out of that 50, so you are naturally going to see less of them drop in comparison to every other piece which is what I think everyone else is looking at. You could get the same impression if you started looking for Glass Top Table Base - 3rd Section, for example... all of a sudden it would seem like everything but it was dropping if that's what you are focusing on.

Statistics can be deceiving if you are only focusing on the short term (and a term of 5-6 hours, not to mention 5-6 days is extremely short term on a statistical level). Then, of course, since there's a perception that adhesives are more rare, you won't see them for sale or you will but at impossible prices.

Its kind of like flipping a coin. What are the chances that heads will come up on the first flip? 50%. Keep flipping and assume you get heads every time until you reach 10 times. What is the chance that you will flip heads on the same penny that 11th time? 50%. Statistically, you would reach a different number that was much lower because the likelyhood is much lower, but the random chance remains the same because its an independent event that exists outside what has come previously. Same with our loot kit parts.

But you are just assuming that the drop rates are the same, arnt you, you dont have this information from the devs. And that assumption goes against all the evidence. Go read the feed back on loot kits, especially the later pages when people were further into it: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=in_live&message.id=18098

Read the trade forums.

If it is your own personal experience that you loot approximately 1 in 10 adhesives then please tell us which mobs you are looting from. And can I buy some from you?

That is simply not true.

I bought and sold about 200 parts by now and I can tell you that EVERYONE misses the adhesive for the rugs. The chance of an adhesive for anorange rug dropping is lower then the chance that, say, a part number2 drops. WAY lower.

I bet my rebel banner collection on that !

wow, the devs really hate meatlumps don't they?

Just because, pretty much whenever there's a really rare loot etc. Meatlumps drop it ROFL.

I have yet to loot a SINGLE loot piece since their introduction! I've been killing every NPC on every planet like mad.

Have payed about 2 mil so far to buy them though. Anyone notice if newbs have a higher "probability" of getting a drop (see above poster who got 3 in an hour or so.) It seems most people I buy them off of are also relatively new players.

Of course your odds go up also if you AFK meatlump kill all 24/7

P.S. I'm positive the adhesives don't have the same drop rate. Some guy on my server (Wabi) assembled the first couple loot kits, and now has an excess of hundreds of parts, but still spams to pay 1.5 per adhesive in the starport.

Ok just to clarify this, I am not a newb, been playing since july of last year. Thank you Anyways, I've noticed that some days are better than others. I think it depends on where you go. Like I have been killing meatlumps in one area where I get 3-4 items in an hour, come back the next day, I don't get anything. So that's just my observation.
