I had a problem very similar to you with the Sith datapad (it all took place since Memorial Day weekend, BTW).

I kept getting the signs that said "You cannot read the information on this datapad" and "You must first loot...". I just kept deleting the datapad and waiting for more Sith to come my way.

On about the 4th try, I ran into not two, but FOUR sith shadows, proceeded to kill them one by one, the second one I killed had a datapad that WORKED and gave me the waypoint to the Sith camp. I killed the other two sith shadows just for the fun of it, one had a non-functioning datapad. After that it all worked like it should, I killed the three Sith Shadows at the camp and got the waypoint to the village.

I know 4 people in my guild have successful done this and have started the Village quests. I am sorry to hear others are having this problem. I know theirs work on the first time.

Good luck to those getting this nasty bug. =(

I believe you have to slay both siths before you loot. I think this is in the FAQ too.

I'm asking because I have just know killed off my 4th set of Sith... looting a datapad everytime with the message "you must loot this to use" or something like that... I read the forums, so I know that it bugs the pads if they are looted before all the sith are dead, and have waited (except on last encounter, purposefully)till confirming that there are no more sith around before looting. Here's a rundown of each encounter, important bits in yellow:

1st: Traveled to the Rebel Outpost on Rori, the Sith actually attacked me IN the outpost as I was loading, much to my suprise. I assume that this is because it is an outpost, not a city... Killed 2 Sith, checked radar, then auto-looted both... recovered some creds from both, and the datapad from one: it gives the "you must loot before..." message. This makes me a sad panda.Thankfully, there happened to be a bunch of noobies (like CL10's, what were they doing there?)in a groupat the Rebel Outpost, so I'm greeted with tells asking me if I'm a Jedi cause I just killed two sith right in front of them... that makes me smile...

I then moved out of the outpost, waited about 5 minutes to see if i would get another attack, then logged out to see if anyone else was having this problem... After going over the forums, I reread the posts about killing all the sith, and that sometimes there are more than 2... So I convince myself that there was a 3rd sith that i missed somehow (although there were NO red dots on radar)

2nd: Log in after reading forums... Sith are back with the same lame message: The old man has awakened somecuriosity in youblah blah... I kill them, wait a full 2 minutes, then auto-loot... datapad, creds, and crystal resource looted... datapad says: "you must loot before using"

I log out in frustration... waste more time in the forums reading...

3rd: Log in, there are no Sith. Walk about 200 meters, and it looks like my buddies are back! They yell something about old man curiosity (yikes!) after I attack one... Kill both, then DID NOT auto loot, but instead looted using the radial menu, then plain 'loot' feature found over 'auto-loot..' I get a pad, creds, another nifty yellow box of resource. I was convinced this would work... but NOPE...get the 'you must loot' msg.

Log out, pretty angry this time... Each one of these attacks has eaten up two shots of my good stim d's... which i'm running out of... and i'm getting nowhere... I'm realizing that i can't do this forever, because once that stim runs out, i'll just have to run... I read forums, searching for answer...

4th: Log in, determined to MAKE this work. I decide to try and loot in combat, just in case I've somehow misunderstood all the posts that I've read here about looting after all sith are dead. I pop into the world and HOLLLLY CUH-RAP the sith are right on me, so close that my T-21 barrel is actually touching one of their noses...

After a VERY close fight (thanks to the loading invulneribility, I guess) I kill one, then loot BEFORE THE OTHER IS DEAD... I get some creds... then kill the other, loot, get data pad... but, as expected (this time at least) the thing gives me the message "you must loot this item before using" (not verbatim)

I log out, not so angry this time cause I didn't expect that to work, and then write this post...

If you have had a similar experience, please post here, ESPECIALLY if you have a work-around for this... I'll be traveling off Rori to see if this helps fix the problem, but I am not really in the mood to have to fight my Sith buddies once again tonight...
