Thread: Range Defense, or Luck

Hi,


I have enough XP in the back to take, in phase 3, either Range Defense or Luck. I know Range defense is essential for BH, but Luck is also nice to get more crystals. But as far as the quests are concerned (6th unlock), does anyone have experience with either quest and can help be chose the one that's less likely to be bugged?

You're at the Village and plan to become a Jedi right?


Ranged Defense is an absolute must for the young Padawan and the upcoming Knight. Do you think the MBH attacking you will go about it with a sword? No, he will attack you with a rifle, pistol, carbine or other dangerous ranged weapon. So getting the +20 (with all 4 boxes)ranged defense is essential.

Ranged def

Luck doesnt even work i think or its something like more credits and nothing to do with item drops

Also, if your going for jedi, i strongly suggest stocking up on pearls and crystals NOW

Good advice, that +20 (or is it +15) of range defense will help more than luck. I'll just pray that the quest isn't bugged but it's a S&D and it worked great for me last time.

I am confused - does ranged defense protect you when you are holding a ranged weapon (i.e. my defense as a ranged combatant)? Or does ranged defense protect you from any ranged attack?


I am a melee character, so I am wondering if changing weapons changes my defense stats (unequipping my VL and equipping my rifle) - or if the stats are both used all the time depending on the attacker?


Does this make sense?

Hmm, I assume that Ranged Defense protects you from any ranged attack regardless of what weapon you're wielding.


My question is: what exactly does Luck do? I've heard it increases the chance for crystal/pearl drops. True?

This is only refering to ranged defense


you basically have 2 stats . . .one is general ranged defense and the other is <weapon type> ranged defense.


if you have nothing equiped your total reanged defense is general + <unarmed>


if you have a rifle equiped your total ranged defense is general + <rifle>


etc


etc


now the mod you get with being FS affects your general ranged defense thus increasing it regardless of what you are weilding.



so to answer your question . . yes you defense will change dependant on the weapon you have equiped.

I have luck and honestly there is no way to measure what it actually does as no two NPCs carry the same amunt of creds and the same loot so there is nothing to judge. As far as loot drops . . . same story.

Thanks Bis - the reason I asked (not to hijack the thread) is if you get ranged defense as a Jedi character (melee) you don't really get any benefit. You would only get benefit if you are holdinga ranged weapon (which you could do as a jedi, but probably wouldn't do very often)


Is that correct?

Ranged Defense is your defense against a ranged weapon. That's the common belief anyhow.

As to which tree to take, obviously Ranged Defense is better suited. I wouldn't say it's totally needed however. It's only +20, you can get +16 in 1 article of BE clothing, and an Aukuan Ring to make it +21. Or get two BE items and cap at +25. If you plan on going Defender the +20 will make either a smaller impact at higher levels.

I doubt Luck does anything however. Given the fact that there are plenty of known existing mods that don't work, I can't picture an unknown mysterious mod working at all. With all the broken non-working things for every profession I'd be amazed if Luck was doing anything at all.

If you have the senses XP banked, or can get it easily, I'd just take the Luck tree (that's what I'm doing). If you have the Reflexes banked or don't mind grinding out the combat XP for that then Ranged Defense would be better.

I'm not sure if you understood me . . .


Equiping diferent types of weapon (rifle, pistol, carbine, pike, 2 handed, unarmed, 1 handed) will affect your total ranged defense but the ranged defense received from the FS boxes affects your general ranged defense. This means that regardless of what you have equiped, the benefits from those FS boxes will still apply.


You can check out how different weapons affect it by going to your character sheet (ctrl c) and clicking the show detail box. Then change you weapon . . . you'll see one of the numbers change (which is the bonus from the weapon type if you have modsin it) The number that stays the same is your general ranged defense which you can also check in the skills window on the lower left hand side list of mods.

Isnt it only +12 for all 4 blocks or has it been changed with the CU. I'm looking at a CU character builder right now and it only shows +3 in each block
