Hi guys, I'm not specially a "powergrinder", got FS simply playing the game, I'm getting to some point where I did all I wanted in the game (1 year and half) and thinking about getting this way.

so I'd have a few question

- is there a point for non-powergrinders to get there ?
- is there an interrest into roleplay or the "u83r r0xx0r c0mmun1ty" owns the place ?

I'm interrested into RPing (I like RP) something like a nightsister - force powers and pikes - is it possible ?

for a regular grinder (I spend some days doing my count on quenckers/others for xp sometimes) can I hope getting to padawan quite fast (2 months maxi, knowing that I already got 2 quests done and I'll do the 3rd one as soon as the server goes back up), my current template being TKM/master entertainer/underworld 2, I'm open for suggestions to make it easier (will drop entertainer soon anyway).

any input/help from players like me who did the challenge ?

I'm not interrested in "being uber", just for the RP side and extra force powers, would I be able to enjoy it regardless to the whole "r0xx0r" (BH and jedi) community ?

Well its server dependant really, like Chimaera has many Rp'ers and they use Mos Entha as the roleplay city and generally dont get annoyed (but sometimes do ) All depends on your server though, and wether you can RP a jedi/force user well or not (9/10 people really suck lol)

I'm getting used for different sides of RP, (got 3 toons), from the imperial officier, to the female badass smuggler, or the master crafter.

I won't be getting dark side jedi and pseudo "RP" an a**hole as 90% do, this will be my smuggler/thug character so quite deep RP, like as she couldn't continue to play on both side "rebel aligned/imp informant", she'd decide to get closer to the nightsister clan, but still with a "foot in the real world" and politics.

not just the basic "dark jedi knight" being an a**hole to everyone.

Here's the deal. Jedi = Master Grinder. Commit to becoming a Master Jedi or not. There is no in between.

Once you become Jedi Initiate, you suffer xp loss upon death. It makes no sense toget to Jedi initiate or padawan just to rp. People have tried it and decided later to try and fill in their template and build a Jedi that theycan actually play the game with and guess what? The can't. Why? Because they are -10 million Jedi xp in the hole and have no skills other then a training lightsaber which only gives you 68 xp when you kill a Kuudu!

Before you get to a Master Jedi level, you need to train by yourself, alone, away from anything that drops credits or talks to you. Forget about everthing else. It is a solo grind and it is designed that way on purpose. Forget about all that r0xx0r crap. If you want to rp then rp a padawan in training,on the run, trusting no one, living in fear, always looking over their shoulder for the next BH to come along. Forget about using your force powers against anything else that has force powers becuse it's a sure way to get on the BH terminals and end up in the negative xp abyss. If you go down this road plan on spending 2 years of your life to get to where you need to be to even SHOW another player your robes or lightsaber. I've been playing since launch and I'm only 0-0-1-0 lightsaber. It willl be at least another year before I will be ready to play my character.

Oh, BTW, so far I'm loving every minute of being a Padawan. There is a sense of danger and tension that reminds me of travelling to Felucca (the non consentual PvP server)in UO. There is something about the constant fear and paranoia that brings the game to a whole new level.

Pretty much.

All the jedi I know do nothing other than grind their jedi whenever they log it in (this is not the same as doing nothing *but* grinding jedi, I know of several that play their alt characters almost as much as they did before getting jedi). All it means is that when their jedi character is online the only thing that concerns them is whether they are getting the absolute maximum xp over time that they possibly can.

There has never been a great deal of RP at any time in SWG (with one or two notable exceptions). Almost everyone I have met has been, to a greater or lesser degree, a min/maxer. Getting the Jedi slot seems to make this even more noticable - people will reject anything other than the absolute best - for example a low-level jedi I know has tuned 18 or so crystals, with the best one ending up at -5 force cost (random tuning sucks btw). Because he was not able to get the absolute best of -9 fc he has rejected all of those crystals, even for grinding.

With my first ever experience of online-RPG being the town of Daggerford (NWN based system) I had a bit of a disappointment when I first started SWG - it seemed to me that they should just take RPG out of the genre definition. For those that are not aware of Daggerford, it was a very strict environment. Every toon had permadeath, XP was hard to get, anyone not roleplaying would be kicked (GM's were invisible and always present) etc etc.

It has to be said though, that at the lower jedi levels it is extremely hard, if not impossible, to roleplay and make any character advancement. Any waving of the glow stick in front of NPCs or PCs would have any number of BH crowding around you very quickly and would only result in you being hopelessly and permanently in debt.

In short, there is little or no RP with jedi, but then the game mechanics do not really support it.
