Thread: Erroneous You have failed your task. message received upon village phase shift.

The village phase shifted today and on logging in for the first time in the new phase (phase 1 now) I received the following message:
20:07:15 Logging In [Tue Mar 01 20:07:15 2005]
20:08:00 Defend the village against Mellichae's Shadow Sith Outlaws!
20:08:00 You have failed your task.
20:08:00 Defend the village against Mellichae's Shadow Sith Pirates!
20:08:00 You have failed your task.
The problem here is that I successfully completed the Phase 4 quest for Captain Sarguilo, received the message that I had unlocked the Combat Prowess - Ranged Speed tree, and the reward (an Aurillian Sculpture piece) was placed in my inventory.
Now I am worried. Will I be able to train the skills? Did I really get the unlock? Is my character forever unable to complete a quest? Some sort of response would be great.

Well good grief people.. I mean it should have been come across as a diffrent type of message..like
Althought you fault bravely and completed your task/quest , the Sith still managed to over run the village. The Village is now in Phase 1 (or something like that).
Makes sense right instead of FAILED

It's not a problem, it's intended. It doesn't mean that you individually failed your quest, it means that everyone as a whole failed to prevent the Sith from destroying the village. It completes the village cycle taking it back to its ruined state as seen in phase one.

Same thing happened to me, and it didn't unlock. Don't worry, they'll fix it... ...eventually.

No, it's NOT intended.
It is very clearly a message indicating you failed your Phase 4 quest - probably due to a journal bug and nothing more. Some people get the message and have no problem training in their unlocked branch, others have said they don't think they really unlocked correctly.
I say this because I did the Phase 4 combat quest from Sarguillo, and completed it, and unlocked my branch, and when the Phase shifted I received no system message about it.
It's NOT involved in the usual progression of the Village. It is a message than anyone receives upon the village shifting without completing the quest they started in that Phase - whether you did or didn't actually complete it - because I think it's tied to the Quest Journal and that thing is more than likely all screwed up for some reason or another.

I think there is nothing really wrong with this, all though it does confuse people a bit.
We succeed in that the village is still there. We failed, however, in that the village has been decimated and many villagers were killed/captured/wounded.
I think this is an example of how if you want toforce role playing onto players, you have to be very clear about when and how you use it. Whether this is a bug or intentional, in a way, I'd definitely like to see it get cleared up.

I logged in last night and got the same message too.Although I did complete it and filled the tree in already,I reported the bug(if it is a bug)to the Devs with the same concern about getting credit toward the six trees needed. You guessed it already, NO RESPONSE big surprise. If and whenthey do, I will post on here what they have to say.

i got that message the first time i did phase 4 not a problem just go to paemos and ask him what you can learn then if it doesnt show up it is a problemo
