Not sure exactly when the big xp comes in, but i don't believe you need to be a full master of an elite profession for it to work.
I think if you have a certain number of branches to tier 4 you should receive the reward of the 5k xp. But only if you're grouped.

Master Rifles works for full XP, you just get hammered with full grenade damage, no melee toughness to get in the way. I know 0400 TKA isn't enough for full XP, I suspect you need TKM, but don't know.

Plus, remember, if you're holding a rifle and someone or something closes to melee combat with you. You take double damage while holding that rifle.

k, so if i hold my rifle i take twice the damage, but if i remove it i don't get full XP, right?

That should be the case, yes.
Best thing to do is try it out.
If it's failing, then grind up a melee profession and you should be good to go after that.

Do you have to have TKM to get the full 5.5k combat xp, or can you have master rifleman? Also if you have to have TK does it have to be master?
