sorry to keep bothering you all but just so i can make sure. From reading through that guide. i would only have to master through combatand two other branches? Also does that mean i only have to learn the first box for all the other ones?
thanks

You have to go up 6 complete branches as well as the associated novice boxes for them at a minimum.
You CAN do more if you wish, and you can do as many of the quests as suits your fancy.
The quests only unlock the ability to train in the skills, so you could theoretically do all the quests and get all the rewards and still train up only the 6 branches.
Does that answer everything?

just one more quick question. Do i then only have to learn the novice box forall the other tress if i already filled up 6 branches from, for instance, all of combat prowess and 2 of enhanced reflexes?

Not quite...
You only have to learn the novice boxes that are associated with branches you're training up.
For example. If you're doing all the combat prowess and melee and ranged defence branches then you need to train up novice combat prowess and novice enhanced reflexes (for the melee and ranged defence lines). Novice heightened senses and Novice Crafting are completely unnecessary in this case.
If you wanted to train up the luck branch instead of ranged defence say, then you would also need Novice heightened senses.
Treat them like normal professions. You can't go 4400 Brawler without Novice Brawler, but you don't need Novice Artisan unless you actually want the Artisan skills.
That being said, training up all the novice boxes takes no skill points and you likely may have the necessary xp when you do your initial trade in. So it doesn't hurt you in any way to train all the novice boxes, but it isn't strictly necessary.

Once you've finished your 6th box, unfortunatelly there is no message like you would think should be. I remember waiting for it and not getting anything. The old man visits you again in the same time frame as the first visit after you unlock.
