Thinking of doing this with Aziri just for something to do & to get the 2nd sculpture bit, can anyone confirm whether I need to be a master artisan to do this? I note the guide says I'll need master artisan-crafted pieces to finish the tracking device but can anyone craft these or are they schematics that only the person on the quest receives like in the persuasion quest?
I've also not looted any tracking device pieces in a while, are these still dropping or am I screwed?

I don't think any particular skill is required to start the quest, as far as the loot kit, you can buy all the pieces, master artisan gets the schematics in their skill box, they aren't specifically quest related parts
as far as the loot parts go, i was able to buy them all off of bazaar on my server, so do a vendor search on your server and good luck
follow the guide step by step though, it took me 3 tries to do it cus of the wire stuff hehe, but you'll get it eventually just think logically.... if you get stuck with the wire / connector part, just reply back and i'll get back to you asap
but yeah, you can buy everything from other people, but follow the steps in the guide step by step

I'm the only other person that I've heard say anything about this quest, and so far, I haven't been able to take it.
The chief engineer will not speak to me, although I was able to procure all the parts to make the satellite tracking device.
I've had to contact CSR's to get it resolved, and so far, they've told me that they don't see that I've taken the quest. (Which sounds about right, since the engineer wouldn't talk to me.)
Hopefully it works out better for you than it has for me!

I did it this phase...had a MA guildie make the parts I needed and got the rest off vendor search! I am novice artisian...lot of grinding out survey devices for me!

I had 2 different guys take this one with Novice artisain and one without (mst Rifle/ Mst ranger), and had no problems, well #2 had to do the quest about 6 times as I kept screwing up the wiring.
All the parts were bought on economy most for under 500 credits

Can you go through, step by step, what you did with the quest?
I have contacted CSR's 5 times, including sending a PM to Tiggs regarding my inability to finish the quest. My salvaged computer core has been properly calibrated (at least, that's what the status tells me), but once that portion of the quest was completed, my journal was updated to tell me to go talk to a gadget specialist again.
Once at the specialist, I received no new options. I could either purchase another kit or leave, so I left and went to the village.
At the village, the chief engineer only gave me the same two options as he'd given me before as well; to either get the wp's to the gadget specialist, or to continue on my way.
This is my LAST PHASE before my unlock. I cannot sit around for another 3 months for it to be fixed, but it seems that I'm the only person having this issue, which means that there may be no hope for them to fix this for my individual account. As much as I hate to say it, this is so completely unacceptable and frustrating for me, that, unless a fix is found, my time with SOE will be over.

Man that sucks, I've just finished mine & I can see where yours has bugged cos mine left the 'talk to gadget specialist' part open too after the first time, I never went back to see him though, just went straight back to the engineer & he awarded me the unlock & sculpture piece. Not much help to you I know

I followed the 'sticky" instructions word for word, except when I screwed up , I went back to ticket droid and started there again, satelites on Dathomir and Lok seemed screwy(I keeped getting blicking lights , with all wires the same) but Corellia they seemed fine.
The gadget specuialsist seems bugged , it doesn't update after you get the Kit, but once you get it continue following the instructions, and it will be fine. Just keep doing it till it works , like I said I was almost in tears after the 4-5 times of having the thing degrade, I had alloted 1 hour to this and it took almost 4 .
Just to make sure I got it , if you muck up the computer go back to ticket droid buy another satelite information, confirm location with droid (cheak data pad for waypoint) and try it again (the ticket droid might not tell you, planet of location with system message like first time , so cheak data pad)
