I think they are just for people who were working on the Holo grind. When they switched over to the Village system, these people were rewarded with free unlocks since they had been grinding it the old way. (And if I'm wrong, by all means someone please chime in, lol.)

There are 32 professions in the game.

The early system to get Jedi was to master 5 'HOLO' professions. These were 5 random professions. As a guide you could obtain holocrons, which would tell you up to 4 of your secret professions. The 5th one was up to you to find.

This meant that you could literally go through all 32 proffessions before unlocking your 2nd slot.

Sometime early in 2004 the devs decided too many people were unlocking and secretly upped the number of required professions to 8. You could still unlock in as little as 8, if you were extremely lucky.

Under the new system, they decided to give free branches as credit for how many of the 8 secret proffessions you had mastered.

If you had masted 1 out of 8 you got 0 unlocks.

2/8 = 0 unlocks

3/8 = 1 unlock

4/8 = 2 unlocks

5/8 = 3 unlocks

6/8 = 4 unlocks

7/8 = 5 unlocks

8/8 = 6 unlocks (between patch 8 and 9 when the old and new systems were in transition)

Of course this meant if you had never touched a holocron, then you could theoretically have done 26 professions and still have got 0 unlocks at the village.

Char 1 - 14 profs, 0 unlocks

Char 2 - 12 profs , 1 unlock

Char 3 - 9 profs , 0 unlocks.

Yeah I got one unlock, was just started on my second holo, which was TKM, when they switched to the new system... ATM, I'm grinding old school, caping two combat professions and combat XP... only got 4 trees left now lol..... looking at grenades... but the cost is really playing a factor in my choice to go commando 4000.

If you can afford approx 6-8 million, then go commando. It will amaze you how quickly it goes.

I used C12 nades yesterday to get ranged support 4, as I only needed that to start combat medic. After struggling along with my pistol for a few hours, to get the first few thousand, I got 22k in about 20 mins.

no, you are correct. if you didn't participate in the holocron grind you will get no free unlocks. basically if you don't know what an unlock is, or how to obtain it, it's about 99% chance you will not get any free unlocks.

I did 3 holocrons, the fourth was silent 1- TKM 2- MBH 3- Master Dancer 4- Silent

I then did a heap of other proffs.

Should this not entitle me to some free unlocks?

If so how do i go about obtaining these unlocks? I have just had a visit from the old man, and siths, now at village.

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, 'How can we do this and not make another EQ?' We didn't want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen." - Julio Torres

Warrior,

I mastered all but like 4 professions and I was given 5 free unlocks. You should be entitled to some unlocks. When you talk to the old man at the village center there should be an option that gives you the unlocks. I believe it is the 5th one down, but I do not remember the exact words.

I suggest getting one unlock at a time and then going to train up the tree before you do the second unlock. This will keep you from maxing out on XP.

There is no max FS xp. You can do all six unlocks and stillbankall theFS xp you will need to fillthem. This is probably better, since you don't have to give up skill points until you are ready to fill them all up and go for the exit quest. The FS skills aren't particularly useful and you need max professions to get the xp in a timely fashion.

I picked Melee defence and ranged defence! I was then given 127500FS YAHOO! For both of those skills!
