Thread: FS Skills + Jedi, Does it matter?

What I want to know does it really matter what FS skills I unlock and train in. Once I'm a Jedi will I have wished I trained in other skills?

So is a Jedi that does all combat FS trees WAY better off than a Jedi that does reflexes tree?
Thanks

here's the thing,

melee speed will make you swing that training saber a lot faster

melee accuracy will make you hit things with the saber

melee defence will pretty much be your armor

ranged defence will be the other half of your armor

These 4 are truly critical. The other 2 can be whatever you want.

Melee and ranged defence cap at +125, you will want your jedi to be as close to that number as possible, it makes a huge difference when swinging that saber for the first few skill blocks.

The melee accuracy is huge too, although some report that it does not work for the light saber, i beg to differ on that one, I tested lightsaber on TC pre patch 9 with and without this mod, it made a big difference in trying to level to novice LS.

And again, melee speed, you'll have a saber with 4.5 speed (around that) and be swinging real slow doing 130 damage until you hit novice saber. And then even at novice saber you'll be swinging it slow. This mod will go away since at LS master you will speed cap. But again, its real nice to have since mastering LS is a long grind, probably the same as grinding 3 columns of combat for force conversion.

Don't skimp on the skills to get padawan faster, you will only be hurting yourself in the end. Do yourself a huge favor and take the extra time to go through the extra phases it might take to get the right skills.

I agree that those 4 are the must haves.

For the other 2 I like 2 of the following:

Survival (Terrain Negotiation)

Crafting Assembly(Light Saber Assembly)

Crafting Experimentation (Light Saber Experimentation)

I am sure other people might have other options.

Thanks that clears up a lot for me.

Now I can have a clear plan on what skills I want

This is what I was told by a jedi, and what I have confirmed ...

Melee / ranged defence are both useful. Obviously. Melee defence (read it as "dodge") for a jedi is low (read that as non-existent) without Defender, and the ranged defence will give you a better chance to dodge the 15% of shots that get past your blade at Master LS. If you think you might not get Master LS (you'd be mad not to the way it is atm - that's what gives you LS toughness ... "damage mitigation") it will be even more helpful to have this skill.

Speed is useless (LS is not melee - it's LS). I can confirm this, as I have it, and I was hitting at 1/5sec using my spd 5 training saber.

Accuracy is useless for the same reason - it's not LS accuracy. I have melee acuracy and compared combat logs with another padawan who doesn't have it. Our hit percentages were not significantly different. Just take Citros Snow Cake - best food I found for the grind to Novice LS.

Ranged accuracy / speed is useless. Even saberthrow and powers do not use ranged accuracy mods.

Healing is useless, unless you plan on keeping medic skills. It does not help force healing. May save you a few stims along the way tho.

Crafting may help your saber crafting results. A crafting-designated player city will help more. And your saber does not decay, ever, so you will only craft a very limited number of sabers anyway.

Vehicle control - I have this and it seems to me to be good for dodging tree-traps on Dath. It's not significant, but a nice touch. A friend jedi knight also told me his control is better in JTL with that skill than without it even though this is not supposed to be the case (his alt, flying the same craft, cannot control it as well as his jedi).

Survival - this will help your terrain negotiation by +5 (giving you 5 if you have no scout). Not much, but when you look at Force Run it gives you 33 at FR1, 66 at FR2 and 99 at FR3 ... that +5 could help you get away from an opposing faction jedi using the same FR skill. Or catch one. I wish I had this.

Surveying - you'll be able to survey. Yay.

I can't even think of the others, but I'm sure I've covered the semi-useful ones (all 2 of them) and some of the luxury ones.

In short, take melee and ranged defence if you can ... and with the rest take whatever you want - it will make basically no difference. Just do the quests that offer the nicest rewards instead.

Luck could be worthwhile, to me, any possible chance, even if it was .001% better that a nightsister elder would drop a premium crystal, I'd take it. Only problem is that crystal tuning has such a narrow margin that I find quality crystals can tune just as good as premium and are much easier to get. But again, if Luck has anything to do with the possibility of getting better loot in the form of crystals, i think its worthwhile.

Of course, i don't use my jedi to hunt crystals, so I plan to take my alt into the village just for the sake of getting the luck column.

Not yet confirmed, to my knowledge, as to whether or not luck makes any difference to loot drops (or only credits), but on the off chance it does I'd take it. Good call wickedHangover.

Was also thinking about persuasion - any possibility that a NPC for whom you have bad faction will not agro on you is a bonus ... especially if you get stuck between some spawns of nightsisters without buffs. Don't know how effective it is tho.

Melee speed is not worthless. Master saber takes a long time. Don't underestimate the value of anything that helps you along that grind.

You're looking at pathetic xp per hour until you get to the second box of any line and have a decent pool hit. There, it's about 50K per hour with a really nice first-gen saber, and about 75K xp per hour with the third box. 1.6 million xp at 75K per hour isn't something to take lightly - I'm 350K away from it and it's been a heck of a grind, and that's with about as good of a first gen grinding saber as one can get (using a 48/48 -0.35s -7fc crystal).

We went on a krayt hunt this weekend, and someone with the luck line did the looting. From about a dozen dragons, we got three sets of tissue, some scales and segments, and two pearls.

I don't think it affects the quality of the loot, just the chance to get loot itself. On big game like krayts and elders who tend to only drop high-end stuff (as opposed to your average meatlump that drops 99.9% garbage), that extra hit on the loot table gives nice results.

So a LS doesn't count for a MS qualified weapon, that's strange to even have it in thier then. If MS doesn't make you any faster with a LS then who does it make you faster with other weapons, does the code actually give you a bonus when using all weapons except LS?

Master LS is considered a must by most. If you master saber, you will be capped anyway. Melee speed for a completed jedi is worthless. I suppose it would help for the grind.
