Here's how it goes....
1. Get glowy
2. Get visit from Old man and enter village
3. Unlock 1 branch per phase (6 in total)
4. Fill up the six branches with FS XP
5. Get 2nd visit from old man
6. Do exit quest
7.Do Trials
8. Get new character slot
Thats how I think it goes...

Correct. You unlock your second character slot right when you hit Jedi Padawan which is after all the trials.
Not completely sure what you were asking in the last part there, but...
Unlocking the FS branches is definitely going to take some time. The quickest, but more expensive way, to grind that XP is to pick up 4000 Commando and use grenades. Grenades give pure combat XP and the conversion rate for combat XP in the village to FS XP is 3:1 as opposed to 30:1 for normal weapons XP. Other than that, find somewhere good to grind, and hope you don't lose your sanity.
After you unlock the 6 branches in the FS skills you need, a few days later (possibly earlier) the old man comes to visit you again and gives you the exit quest.
Do the trials after that, now you're a Jedi Padawan without skill boxes. Yay!
But, the grinding is nowhere even close to over yet, as the jedi grind is huge and if the FS grind didn't already drive you to insanity or make you stop, the Jedi grind may do just that as it does for many people.

So, when you get your new character slot, obviously it isnt like being someone fresh into the game. I mean, I hear you guys talking about all this xp that is required to fill the branches. Now, does this xp come from your old character? If so, then once the FS slot is open, if you cash in the XP for FSXP then, basically you cant use your old character any longer. Right?
And even as a fresh OOB (out of the box) Jedi, you must be somewhat more powerful than you lead on. It isnt like you are running out to kill whomprats to gain xp, you are all talking about rancors, and krayts, and stuff like that. That is a far cry from weak.
What is the complaint? A basic Jedi is still much more powerful than the non fs player? right?

Your new character slot is exactly that...a brand new character, with 250 skill points to spend. Your old, or original character is the Jedi you have worked so hard for. So now you have two characters.

That is starting to make sense now.
But the main difference I am seeing is that it requires this enormous amount of xp to fill each of the boxes. That is crazy man. Just crazy. I would be killin whomprats for a year to get 20K xp..... /me shakes head in heart wrenching disbelief.

As a fresh OOB Jedi, you will not be able to kill rancors. You will not be able to kill quenkers, voritors, or humbabas. You can kill easy stuff. After novice LS, you can kill low level quenkers, although with some difficulty. After one box of LS you can kill quenkers without running away too many times. All of this you do for less than 700 Jedi xp, per kill.
Eventually you'll be able to kill krayts. Eventually....trust me on this. Your baby alt that isn't even born yet will be able to kill those krayts before you can.

you want to know how strong your jedi is after the padawan trials? do this. go buff yourself, grab a quenker mission and go attack it with a cdef pistol and no armor. best thing i can tell you is before you hit complete the padawan quest, see if you can grind tkm and some fencer tree to get the melee defense and dodge tree so you will have some sort of melee defense when you become a padawan.

I suggest reading the Jedi FAQ, the FS guides and all the other guides that have info on the subject, you can learn all you need from them. Including how slowly the exp is gonna be using a training saber as a padawan

I am exstatic. I have a along way to go, but when I checked Sunday I was at "Felt a faint sense of the Force." Seeing those words on my monitor just put me on cloud 9. I know I still have alot of things to do, most of it is just going to take time, since I have not yet mastered a profession. That will all come though, so no worries.
Oh yes, my question...
I dont quite understand what happens, so let me tell it as I understand it, and then correct me.
You take your character through this growth and progression until one day you become "glowy" to which you then wait 2 or more days for this old man to run up to you. He gives you a crystal you then take to this city where you begin this epic quest to unlock force branches.
Once the branches are unlocked, then you begin the exit quest.....
All this with your current toon? Correct? Ok, so if this is correct.....
Now, at what point do you open a new character? When you begin the Padawan trials, or after?
Finally, how in God's name does one gather several hundred million xp from a low level padawan that from everyone that I have heard on this board say is supposed to be so easy to kill. I am lost. And with what kind of weapon. If the lightsaber trials are like the last part of the padawan trials, then what does a Jedi Initiate use that nabs some several million xp per week.
You guys make it sound like Jedi is nothing more than the equivalent of a new character fresh off the boat. This is obviously simply not true. So enlighten me where I went wrong here.

It really is an honest question, I was hoping after 14 views, someone could have answered it.
But, then maybe I will have better luck with Customer Service.
