Crafting Quest - Phase 4

This one was very fast. Start to finish, I did it in about 90 minutes. The hardest part was configuring the component at the end, but overall, this wasa delivery mission.

Start: Speak to Ikes Kroca (Chief Engineer of Aurilia) who will tell you that they need to replace the computer core of the village, because the current one is corrupt. He gives you three options for a dealer, or "Gadget Specialist"to speak to about securing a new one. (Keren, Naboo, Coronet, Corellia, Mos Entha, Tatooine)

Gadget Specialist: Speaking with any of these guys will tell you that he doesn't deal with something the size of a village. But he tells you that the ticket droids at starports can sell the rights to any fallen satelite. Most fallen satelites have a shielded computer core that would serve forour needs. Speak toany ticketdroidand you can have the rights to one downed satelite for a price. (about 1400 credits) He also gives you a tracking device to help you locate it, but you have to assemble it. (Note: you need this device fully assembled before the droids will speak to you)

Tracking device: The tracking device looks like one of the loot kit assembly devices. It needs 10 items to make it complete, and all you do is drag-n-drop the item into the kit to make the tracker. 6 of the items are loot drops and the other 4 are master artisan items.

  • 3 Tracking Device Casing pieces

  • 3 Tracking Device Bracket pieces

  • Memory Module

  • Control Unit

  • Energy Distributor

  • Micro Sensor Suite

(Please let me know if I'm wrong about those 4 artisan pieces. I am not sure about the memory module)

Hunting the satelite: This is the easiest part. Activate the tracking device and you get a waypoint on some planet to go to. Mine was on Lok. It was about 1800m from the Nym starport and was not guarded, nor any trouble to find. Just go there and retrieve the computer core that is inside.

Chief Engineer: With computer core in hand, return to the village and speak to Ikes again. He will thank you, and say that it still needs to be reconfigured before it can be used with the village systems. There are 4 connectors and 3 coloured wires. You have to choose which connectors require a wire, and which don't. You also have to find out which colours go to each connector. As with previous crafter quests, the integrity of the computer core will diminish with each failure.

Calibration: Remember that game "Mastermind"? One player would choose coloured pegs and fill a 4 hole line with some or all pegs. The other player had to guess which "code" the opponent had selected. This is the basis of the way you have to reconfigure the computer core.

Sit down, grab a coffee and prepare for some note taking. You are going to need it. I was very lucky and got it without losing my core's integrity, and having to find a new one. The key is that you select the connectors and the wire colours (or no wire) to connect to each. when you have them selected, you test it to see if you are right. You will get a light for each correct connector, and a light will flicker for each correct wire on the wrong connector. You will not be told which one is correct though! So you will need to test your configuration by replacing wires over and over again.

My attempt took about 10 tries, and I was down to about 15%

Rewards: The reward for this quest is another piece of the Aurilian Sculpture, and the FS Repair Skill unlock - some people have said that the repair skill doesn't seem to offer a change to results, and that seems likely because the repair skill overall is still a mystery.

Two additions/modifications:

(1) You don't have to talk to the engineer before reconfiguring the sateliite. You can do it right there and go back. This is important b/c I fried my first core in five tries. Got another satelitte from the droid and it was on the same planet as the first one. Of course I went to the village to tune the first one, lol.

(2)Callibration - If you fry the core you can get a new one without having to make a new tracker.

For anyone struggling to solve the rewiring puzzle I have uploaded a simple windows application that will walk you through the solution in four steps or less. I've also put up the source code so if you're fairly C++-savvy and don't trust a random executable on the internet you can check through the source code and compile it yourself.

EDIT: I should point out that this program assumes that all terminals will be connected. If anybody had a solution in which a terminal was left unconnected let me know and I'll update the program to take that into account.

I've updated the solver (source) to report an error in the event it is unable to determine the solution. This will only occur if you make an error entering the number of lit/flashing lights or setting up the wires. I've also added an alternative version (source) which allows for unconnected terminals in the final solution.

Yes, those 4 are all Master Artisan items. Some of them require others as subcomponents, so you wind up making 7 or 8 items. Quality doesn't seem to matter.

FWIW, you can calibrate the computer anywhere, you don't have to head back to the village first. Given that the village is a war zone half the time in phase 4, you might want to recommend doing it before going to the village.

Quest #2 was unavailable. Only the first 44 people that accepted the quest were able to. The devs increased the number on the last day the quest was still around. I will wait approximately 5 weeks to try again.

I did #3, but it really does not need a guide. It goes something like this:

Go talk to Quharek and get the mission. He needs components made for the village. Collect 200 units of the resource containers dropped by the sith. There are 7 items craftable, and 1 item bugged that is non-craftable. Each one takes 10 units of some of these resources. Make any 20 of them and drop them in the binary loader droid.

No rewards for this quest. You unlock the experimentation line.

If you would like the full Quest #3 I will do it. The formulae for each item and specifics are at least worth knowing, for gathering ahead of time.

A guide for #3 would be really cool, I'm adding them to the FAQ (and giving you credit, of course).

Phase 3 - Crafter's Quest

Quharek warns you that the village shields need some extra work done to prevent orbital bombardment from the Sith. This appears to be their newest tactic. As an artisan, it is your job to scour the galaxy for some resources to help build up the defenses.

Step 1: The Schematics

When you get the quest from Quharek, he tells you to head over to QT-QC the binary lifter droid. Speak to the droid and he will download 8 schematics into your datapad. (They take up no space) It is your mission to craft ANY 20 of these components and bring them to QT-QC for installment to the village defense project. You may donate as many as you want, but you are required to procure only 20 of them.

Step 2: The Resources

The sith shadows and outlaws that are menacing the village all have a unit or two of special resources. These are:

  • Ostrine Ore

  • Endrine Ore

  • Rudic Ore

  • Ardanium II Energy

  • Wind Crystal Energy

Step 3: The Components

  • Power Supply

    • 2 Ostrine Ore

    • 3 Endrine Ore

    • 5 Wind Crystal Energy

    • 1 Power Supply *optional*

  • Primary Computer

    • 4 Rudic Ore

    • 3 Ardanium II Energy

    • 3 Wind Crystal Energy

    • 1 Primary Computer *optinal*

  • Regulator

    • 5 Ostrine Ore

    • 5 Rudic Ore

    • 1 Regulator *optional*

  • Shield Connections

    • 10 Ostrine Ore

  • Shield Housing

    • 6 Endrine Ore

    • 4 Rudic Ore

  • Unit Computer

    • 4 Rudic Ore

    • 6 Ardanium II Energy

    • 1 Unit Computer *optional*

  • Endrost Alloy

    • 8 Endrine Ore

    • 1 Ostrine Ore

    • 1 Wind Crystal Energy

  • Village Shields *Warning - this item is uncraftable due to abug*

    • 1 Endrost Alloy

    • 1 Shield Housing

    • 1 Power Supply

    • 1 Unit Computer

    • 1 Regulator

    • 1 Shield Connections

    • 1 Primary Computer

Each of the optional components will strengthen the component and give a large increase to the integrity and other values listed. you can also experiment on each piece to get an artisan bonus to increase the values. Higher values puts you up the scale on contributions overall to the project.

You will notice that each item takes up 10 units of the resources. You will need 200 units of these, in any amount as long as you choose your crafting procedure well ahead of time.

Crafting Leaders:

One thing you should know... the person that provides the most of any component will be rewarded extra for being the lead crafter in that category. There is also an overall bonus for those that provide better strength/integrity/etc for the components. What they get is a mystery, because I received no rewards at all for this phase.

Rewards:

It is unknown (to me) what rewards you may or may not get for component contributions, being a crafting leader, or just the quest completion, except the FS Experimentation line being unlocked.

I tried using your code program but for some reason, after the fourth attempt, it will default to an all red listing. Is this programmed this way?

There is an all-red default, but it should never be used. I've run the program on all possible combinations of red, yellow and blue wires and it always finds a solution. I'll rebuild it to work with unconnected terminals too, just in case. It'll take a while since I'm cooking dinner right now! Please make sure you're getting the lit and flashing lights the right way round. It will fail it you give it the wrong information. I'll post back when the new version is up.
