Thread: Best template when unlocked?
Master artisan
Scout of assorted degrees
Master Archy
Novice Carbineer, unless I want to play with other stuff
Assorted Merchant
FS:
crafting mastery
Melee defense
surveying
And then unlock my second character, cause I'm too cheap to pay for a second account!
Except that combat XP comes about 1,947,436 x10^83,756 times faster than crafting xp, from the grind to the 35:1 conversion, so maybe I'll just shoot my way to an alt...

I'd say. TKM for the defences and as much Doc as you can get.
Confuscious say: "If you can't think for yourself, think for no-one."
Actually, if we're still being patronising - and apparently we are - it's "Confucius".
I think you guys missed my question (maybe because I was unclear).
Does any of the regular combat professions help me when I take my first stumbling swing with the Light Sabre? Will TKA inate armor help me in any way when I use a light sabre? Any skill mods from swordsman or fencer help out? What about specials? Can I use COB when wielding a light sabre?
I'm not talking Jedi skill trees here, just regular professions that would make it easier when I begin a jedi career.

There is no "best" template. There are Flavors of the Month, until what makes them so is changed. Pick the template you think you would like the best, and remember... it's just a game, have fun.

Well... I still say "There is no best.. it's a game, have fun."
TKM will help out, since if you want to stay off the terms, and keep the NPCs from seeing you in your robes while in a group, the TK Innate armor will help TONS when you're in normal clothes.
Scout, for Terrain Negotiation.
Medic Healing Efficiency line for Stim Use/Healing
But... No, you can only use saber specials for LS's. Jedi Skills/Stats are used for Jedi Abilities only.

TKM innate armor will help while you're a young Pady until your Jedi innate armor modifier is greater (i.e. it uses whichever armor modifier is greater). And I'm pretty sure you can use COB with your saber. Aside from that, I'd pick either Doc or CM for the heals, because even at Force Healing 4000, the Doc/CM heals are IMO better. And if you're planning on grinding solo, Doc/CM heals will REALLY help.
But honestly, I wouldn't stress too much about what regular profs you have. Since they changed the vis rules, and now that a lot of BHs are distracted by the new loot, you won't have to worry much about grinding a group anymore. If you're already TKM/Doc/CM, or if you feel like regrinding it, go for it. But otherwise, just stick with what you have,
Can't use CoB while having saber equipped. And everything else up there was correct
