I'm a smuggler, and I'm going to pair it with either TKM or pistoleer. I'd really prefer to do pistoleer b/c it's just more fun for me. However, I'm hearing from various people that you really have to be either TKM or BH to make it through the trials, and that even a master pistoleer is too weak...is this true?

I wouldn't recommend pistoleer as a profession right now...

When you say trials, you mean to start grinding up force XP or the padawan exit trials?

The exit trials. What's wrong with the pistoleer prof right now. It seems like a lot of fun and the def bonuses seem pretty good...but I hear a lot of people complaining about without any specifics. Thanks for your help.

Personally I would say that in combination with the exit trials you should use your skill points to the max. Meaning you want as much defense (melee/ranged) and state def as possible to survive while swinging your saber.

Personally I will be going Fencer 4400, TKM, Scout 4000, Medic 1000, Smuggler 0010. I feel this gives me most def of all mentioned kinds and also the ability to heal and feign death (how every little or much it is liked by others - it will keep you alive).

I don't think the padawan trials are very hard from a combat perspective. Any elite combat class with buffs and good armor should have no problem.

As for the exit quest to kill malichea, just get some friends to help you.

That being said, you are really going toneed at least one elite melee class, preferably TKMor perhaps fencer, for the jedi grinding and some medic skills. Remeber, during the jedi grind you can't wear armor, which makes melee defense andmelee mitigationvery important to have. If you wear armor, you loseyour lightsabre certification and thus do very little damage.

the actual padawan trials are easy, at that point I only had fencer 4400 and i went through them no problem. As for killing Mel, like everyone else says, bring some friends.

I was planning on going:-

Brawler 4x4x

Master Swordsman

TKA 42x2

Master Medic

Doctor x24x

To get through the FS Grind, and to fight Mellichae ( With friends.)

Here's why, Doc x24x lets you buff yourself making yu have to return to town less often ( You will have to buy Enhance Packs. Swordsman lets you carry a Scythe and an Acklay Power Hammer, dealing huge amounts of Kinetic or Blast damage, great for PvE good experience for quicker high end content kills, TKA because you get Powerboost, further enhancing your buff, for those extra tough foes and you get alot of extra mellee defence, with more state defences also.

With Swordsman speed tapes this is probably the most efficient template for doing FS grind. Where to go from there, I don't know...

Any comments ?

Thanks for your input. It's a big help b/c I hadn't considered the importance of melee defense. Since I already have TK novice, I better focus on that then.

i think you have a good plan for the village and mellichae. Consider this though, once you get your lightsaber, you will probably be better served with fencer 4xxx and doc 2440 for the jedi grind. Melee defence is best gathered on the fencer tree, this will bring you to cap if you have the force melee defence and force ranged defence.

Doc 2440 is great for one main reason, healing poison is huge for jedi xp. things that poison give better xp per kill than things that do not. Some as much as 200 more per kill, that's 33% more per kill than things that do not poison, again, this is huge. Even having 4440 doc is great. But the x44x doc is better than x24x doc in that your buffs will be 3-400 pts higher. This is also huge for grinding jedi.

So you think the points are better spent in doc and Fencer than in TKA?

Two other options I considered:-

Master Brawler

Master Swordsman

Doc x34x

Fencer 422x

Doc x24x

Master Swordsman

Then post Mellichae drop swordsman to buy more doc and maybe a couple more Fencer Boxes?

I know alot say you NEED Smuggler, but I don't know.... FD is nice, but...

FD is purely a defensive move to me, if you play smart and don't plan on being on the terminals, FD is a waste of skill pts. Fencer 4000 is all you need, its the only tree that gives melee/ranged defence. Once you hit novice LS you'll probably not use your regular combat skills. The only problem is this. If a BH does come at you, you will be weaker fora long time. The benefit is that you will be stronger for grinding jedi. I've never been hunted, been playing smart all along and am at a point where I only have doc 2030 left and that's for curing poison. My next skills to train will be to go from healer 0200 to 0203 so thatcan cure poison, this is the only reason I am holding onto doc, otherwise i'd draop to medi 0040 to use good stim d's.

BUT, i have to again point out that if a BH came to hunt me, i'm pretty much dead. I play smart and don't get on the terms.

Well basically it comes down to can you kill baz nitches and sludge panthers and flumpasets now with your profession? If so then you are fine for the trials. Those are pretty much the combat ones except when you need to kill 1 animal or a dude but if you can kill those that i listed you are fine, however when you grind jedi as of now tkm is best to have in case a bh comes and some use fd also. I also recommend having at least 0040 medic. I was fine with master medic and tkm during my trials and jedi grind.

How will Ifair doing the FS grind? Will I still have to resort to Nades for best results, or can the combat + 2h xp I can earn killing high end stuff quickly work out at a reasonable ratre of FS XP gain? 30 - 1 is an evil exchange rate, Ithink of it this way though, at Tusken, off peak I can easily kill 30 4000 xp Tuskens per hour, so that makes 4000 +((30 x 400)/3)= 8000 FS XP per hour surely? How does this compare to Nading uncerted/ Certed?
