I just started the ranged defense quests today and I just finished the third patrol. When I went back to the village and talked to Dageerin the waypoint did not go away. In the crystal it says to return to the outpost and talk to Dageerin, but I already did that. Was this supposed to happen, or is this a bug? Also, if this is a bug, will I have to restart the quest?

yup, you can only do three bases per day. When you come back from the third one he says to come back tomorrow. Your waypoint will update once you go back the next day.

This is what is called a gated quest. Do 3 raids come back the next day. With next day I mean 24 hours. If you go back before the 24 hours he will tell you the same thing, "come back tomorrow." It happen to me and I was a little upset, but I just went to the nearby tar pit field and grinded for 2 hours and came back to him. (still had an hour left on my buffs. ) It was 24 hours by then and he gave me the quest waypoints. I went ahead and finished my raids.

Gated quests are the biggest bunch of CRAP ever invented.

Many different aspects of the game are devices fabricated by SOE with the intent to waste your valuable time and slow you down. There is no technical reason at all for a 5-minute delay between shuttles; it is there ONLY to interrupt your progress (but notice how you can bypass it by paying more money and buying JTL). Same for Dag's quest, and indeed the entire phase-based FS system.

All it's for is to stop you from working at your own pace. That's it. End of list.

SOE is a business that thrives on customers who buy term-based subscriptions. If you gave yourself a goal, such as "Become a Jedi Padawan," and then you went out and were able to achieve it in a couple of months or so, you would be that much closer to boredom with the game and hence cancelling your $15 / month Sony tax. But SOE discovered way back in early EQ days that if they make it artificially impossible for you to work at your own pace that you would be effectively trapped into the subscription fee for a longer period of time. You wouldn't want to quit until you had your Jedi at the very least, and by then you'd feel married to the game for how much time you spent getting there. It's a high-pressure manipulative scheme to impose a feeling of stress and entrapment on the customer base, and it works.

Gated quests are only there to make you slower. It's an intentional waste of your time to keep you playing longer, nothing more. It punishes players more motivated than others that want to reach their goals more quickly. The only point is to give SOE more access to your Visa account, and we accept it because we're addicted.

I know I am, at least.
