Ok, I was trying to reply to another post but as I wrote, it just got bigger, so I decided to make a thread by itself.
I have been grinding and playing since september, fs in october, And after countless hours of playing, I have come up with some suggestions I think I might share...
1. FS progression
This is a big problem. People (I) feel they aen't progression through the FS grind. Or rather, feel that the fs-grind is just a boring thing to put alot of time into.
First off, the quests are mostly bogus. Melee acuraccy is pretty cool, and so is phase 4, but the rest of them seem to me to be just a joke. I would like to see the quests require teamplay and/or strategy. Just some small things like make the sith have diffrent properties, say one is a ranged fighter with low melee def/ham so a good target to start with or something like that might help in the start. (Kinda like thugs but without the ability to melee), and the others have the ability to do melee damage and tank. This wouldn't necesarrily make quests such as ranged defence quest harder, but it would make it more challanging. You'd have to check it out before you go in for the kill to see who's who and then decide on how to do it. That would be a start...
And then there is the fs-boxes... Rumours are many of them are bugged, that's not something to discuss here, but most people feel they are really just a joke. Sure, skill-mods matter, but after grinding 1225k fs exp, you feel you have deserved a little bit more than +20 melee defense. I am not asking for alot, but something enjoyable, and to not upset pvp, requiering everyone to get certain fs-skills, it should focus around pve or target the player with the skill (ie, healing of some sorts). Some ability/command in the top-box might be enough, that way, people will be glad to reach every one of the 450k, and the last box in a branch would be more of a goal, not just the last of them all.
2. EXP
I realize that this is a "thouchy" subject, but right now you have to do alot of grinding to make the requierments within 3 weeks. I myself is more of a pvp'er than a pve'er, and this means when I play the way I REALLY want to play, I get 0 xp. This is HARSH. This completly favors pve-oriented players. And it also upsets PVP in general because more people will have to do the "eternal grind" instead of just playing for fun. A sollution to this problem might be hard to find, but awarding a limited amount of xp for pvp-actions would be nice. How about giving an exp-bonus to overts? This would encourage people to go overt, it would spread the user-load throughout the galaxies and it would give more meaning to the GCW. This could be something like 10% ?
I am not going to talk too much about how high the exp requierment is, this has been discussed alot in diffrent places.
3. Places to grind
Right now, for me, the best place to grind is the squill cave. The battlefield of corellia is also good, but seems to encourage ganking. The squill cave is nice, but since it is more or less the only really good place to grind for someone not doing grenades, it is ALLWAYS crowded.
I hear alot of people say doing missions and such, exploiting (aka double-tapping lairs), running around on dath/dant can be good to, and I have tried all this, but for me, there is nothing that can compete with the xp I can get out of the squillcave if I am alone (or the squill spawns can otherwise keep up).
Also the money-situations is bad. Right now, the hardest missions you can get solo is pikets and baz niches, and they are TOO easy. With jantas, you had to be pretty high up to solo them, and then they too get easy. This means that more or less anyone with some elite combat proff (not even master) can take those missions. This seems wrong. The solo nerf was needed, but there needs to be some mission-related reward for beeing "good". When I was grinding TKA, doing missions on dant could actually be a challange, and that is fun. Now the thoughest missions I can get is something I can leave to a macro.
I know the CU is around the corner, but I am going to say it anyway. Make though missions though. There is NO reason right now to group, except for xp. This means that the solo-nerf now favors the rich. The rich can keep getting the same xp, while the poor will have to go solo to get money and then get less xp. A short-term solution or "balancing" of this would be to do the same they did with payouts for xp. If the group isn't together: no xp bonus.
And last but not leaste... Why does a 423k HAM ancient krayt give the same xp as a 10k piket ? or a 50k HAM sith thug for that matter.
Anyway, that's it for now. Hit me if I am talking out of my but, but what else is this forum for if not to express some opinions from time to time
