Force Sensitive Archive

I am a first time visitor to the village and have had my first meeting with Paemos to convert my existing experience. I plan on waiting and unlocking Ranged Speed during the next phase (I know, it's broken but will be fixed one day) but currently plan on only getting a few boxes of Ranged Speed as my FS abilities (I don't currently plan to move on to Jedi).

After converting experience I have about 85,000 FS XP which is enough to make Novice. My question is, who trains me as a novice in Combat? I understand that come the next phase the Captain will give me a quest to unlock the Ranged Speed branch, does he also train me as a Novice when I take the quest (he didn't seem interested in doing it tonight)? And should I just be gathering xp until then or is there anything else I should be doing with my time, like offering around the village to help others with phase three quests? And if so, who is likly to need the help?
